edit summaries

Here's a sort of technical question for you and anyone who reads your talk page. I just saw what looks like an experiemental edit summary here that I thought was quite interesting in a WP:AGF sort of way. It got me wondering: Can monobooks and scripts be set up to allow you to choose from multiple edit summary options quickly, so that this sort of edit summary could be used (on a case by case basis) by people while on RC patrol? Given the way people often complain when rollback is used for something other than obvious vandalism (seeing it as an attack even if it was not intended to be one), having a bunch of friendly summaries to choose from could be useful. When I actually use the template (subst'd, if that makes a difference) there is an extra "<includeonly></includonly>" in plain text at the bottom of the page. Thatcher131 22:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I made some tests with different versions of the template. As it is at this moment, the templates work fine if subst'd but do not work if not subst'd. I won't pretend to understand why. I think some of the archived cases are not subst'd, which may have made it look like it was broken. I've been substituting all along and if that's what it takes to work right that's fine with me. If there is a way to make it work both subst'd and not that would be best I guess. Thatcher131 23:23, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I moved most of the discussion to the talk page, so the main Clerks' Noticeboard can have the requests from checkusers rather than boatloads of discussion. Its a boldness, and I hope it makes things easier for us. If the watchlists don't work out, it the talk may have to be moved to yet a different page, but for now I think it looks pretty good. George, it's cool that you're trying to help others, but please remember that Wikipedia is not your own site. Wikimedia has certain messages they want to get across, and if you don't want to see them, fine, but describing it as an 'ugly site notice' is kind of... 'biting the hand that feeds you', isn't it? Vertically aligning images

Not a clue

I decided to try my hand at-what is it? 'ASCII'?-art, and used the subject of many a vandalizm: pie. It started off as a kind of sailboat, so the 'pies' would move progressivly father across the page. That tuned into a 'V', and the rest kind of spelled itself. Then I made it 3D.

I have a response there, which may be of help to you:

I created some "In Use" templates more than two years ago — November of 2003 — to take care of just this issue, so that you could save a page with a flag to ask people to give you a short period of time – say 5 minutes to 1/2 an hour – to make a change and not cause a conflict. Some people have even improved on them to make the message work better. There are two forms, {{Inuse|5 minutes}} or {{Inuse|5 minutes}} or {{Inuse||for=|until 3:20 PM EDT 6/26}} in which case you get either of the following:

5 Minutes: {{Inuse|5 Minutes}}

Until 3:20: {{Inuse|until 3:20 PM EDT 6/26}}

I will definately do this if I find that the script does not work well enough as is; however, all admins are required to leave summaries when editing AIV that say whether the list is empty. Thanks for supplying some documentation for the above. I've been experiementing with it here, but it doesn't seem straightforward from the examples I've tried. Is something less convoluted possible, say without the I=, am=, an= and short= parameters (e.g. either use default message or write your own) and perhaps conflating image= and noimage= ...?  Your counsel most appreciated.
