File permission problem with File:ERCRMS Bringing Science to the Factory Floor.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ERCRMS Bringing Science to the Factory Floor.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 14:20, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Gobluer. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Yoram Koren, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 14:22, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Whpq: I know Koren in person; that is why I feel it is necessary to make changes to the previous page. (I will disclose my COI). This page is about a professor and there are supporting evidence (e.g., publications) to support all the facts described here. This is not for advertising, publicising, or promoting purpose.Gobluer (talk) 16:31, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Gobluer, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Yoram Koren have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 14:34, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Whpq: Thanks Whpq! Sorry about the inconvenience as I am new to Wikipedia. I see that you have reverted all the revisions that I have made and now the page also shows that it has a copyright problem. I was wondering if I could edit it again by removing the detailed materials from Yoram Koren's personal webpage (to avoid the copyright issue)? I strongly feel that some of my revisions are valuable and necessary as they reflect better the biography and contribution of Koren. As you can see, the old version just mentioned that Koren is an IEEE fellow, which is not sufficient to summarize his significant contributions in the manufacturing research, which Koren is most famous for.

How do I proceed? Can I still edit the page? Your advice is appreciated.Gobluer (talk) 16:21, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The copied materila has been removed and access to it from its history has been removed as well. The tag on the page about the copyright issue was to call attention to an administrator to deal with the copyrighted revisions in the article hostory. Now that it has been done, the tag has been removed. As you have pointed out, the article is woefully lacking and out of date. Although you could edits the article directly adhering to a neutral point of view, it is strongly discouraged. Instead you can make edit requests on Talk:Yoram Koren which another editor can review and then make appropriate edits to the article. You should declare your conflict of interest. You should add {{UserboxCOI|1=Yoram Koren}} to your user page. You can request edits to the article by posting {{request edit}} on Talk:Yoram Koren along with the text text which you would like changed. As a new editor on Wikipedia, you may have lots of questions. Wikipedia:Teahouse is a good place to post your questions. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 19:47, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Yoram Koren.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Yoram Koren.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 18:56, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
