GLAM and Wikipedia - a huge opportunity for MMU[edit]
Hello, Gopaldmmu. This is mostly a copy of my welcome and response to your question at the Teahouse, as I fear you may have got the impression we jumped on you a bit over your user account name. I would hate you to be put off, as Wikipedia is extremely keen to encourage cooperation between itself and Galleries, Libraries, Museums and Archives (we refer to them as 'GLAM').
There is a huge and exciting opportunity for university libraries such as your at Manchester to encourage their students and staff to use Wikipedia and to mobilise information or images that the library holds so that selected elements are freely available worldwide on Wikipedia. My own city university library (just down the road from you in Derby) has organised so-called 'editathons' where we taught the basics of using and editing Wikipedia, often focussing on some particular aspect of the institution's collections, or some other Wikipedia theme like Women in Red. Right now, Derby is even running courses for journalism students in which editing Wikipedia is a course component (see this page).
I should also say that Wikipedia even has a special Wikipedia Project called Glam-Wiki which I would encourage you and other staff at take a look at. Quite often, it's possible to find a number of enthusiastic local Wikipedia editors to work with you to run help events for students or the public, or simply to offer a venue for a 'Meetup', or perhaps as an opportunity to host a meeting for CILIP members with a session on how Wikipedia works. You might like to know that on June 9th 2019 there is a casual 'meetup' scheduled in Manchester, which could be an opportunity for you to engage with some friendly local editors. Finally, one additional idea is that MMU could even consider the merits of making a number of selected images of items in its special collections available for use in articles. Images are mostly maintained in our sister project at Wikimedia Commons, though some are uploaded directly to english Wikipedia.
Should you ever need any help or advice on any of these ideas in the future, do pop over to my own talk page and we can bounce ideas around. BTW: When you get a moment, it would be nice to see a few lines about yourself and your interests in Wikipedia editing on your userpage, as its empty at present (see User:Cbderbylib for an example of another librarian's userpage). And "The Wikipedia Adventure" is an interactive tour around the basics of Wikipedia editing which you might find worthwhile doing.
