Jeff Kollman, Jeff kollman, JeffKollman.jpg etc[edit]

Jeff Kollman was speedily deleted. I'm about to return Jeff kollman to its proper status--given that it is an unverified BLP. No: I just noticed that the whole thing is copied and pasted from http://www.jeffkollman.com/bio.htm, and without any kind of licensing information (which you could have acquired through OTRS) that's a copyright violation, not to mention, as I suspect, a pretty clear conflict of interest. Furthermore, JeffKollman.jpg is also speedied as a copyright violation. Because you are being uncommunicative and simply restored what other editors have reverted, it's more than likely that Jeff kollman also will be removed, in which case you will have gained nothing: you won't even have "Jeff Kollman" left as a redirect to the band he's in. I urge you to be more communicative, to pay attention to what other editors (by now three or four) are trying to say, and to not think of Wikipedia as a web server where anything goes. Thank you. If you need guidance on how to create appropriate pages, try using the Article Wizard. After Jeff Kollman was protected to prevent re-creation, creating Jeff kollman instead to get round the protection was not acceptable. Thank you for your email. There are several problems. First of all, have you read the information linked to above about how to donate copyright? There are good reasons for specifying procedures for this, rather than just accepting a user's word for it that they own the copyright. Since anyone can edit Wikipedia, anyone can make false claims about such matters, and unfortunately people frequently do so. If you wish to post material copied from elsewhere you will have to follow the procedure. Having said that, I think it is only fair to warn you that in my experience it is rarely worth donating copyright. Material taken from the web site of the subject of an article is usually of such a nature that it is deleted as being promotional, even if there is no copyright problem. Secondly, have you read the message about conflict of interest? You should not be writing an article about yourself. If you are truly notable then probably sooner or later someone else, uninvolved, will independently write one. Thirdly, as you will see from the deletion log, one of the deletions cited promotion as a reason for deletion, and, although the reason given in the log for the latest deletion was copyright infringement, the article still looked promotional, and even if there had been no copyright issue would probably have been deleted for that reason. Wikipedia is not a free advertising service, a free web host, or a social networking site, and articles which appear to exist for self-promotional purposes are deleted. Finally, any article needs reliable third party sources to confirm the information given and to establish that the subject is notable. JamesBWatson (talk) 08:25, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
