Image copyright problem with Image:Nfsoldiemay97.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Nfsoldiemay97.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Unidentified Copyright
[edit]Hi, I've been investigating this since the alert was placed on the page. Simpson himself has taken an interest in the page and reckons that the picture originates from a 1969 Guardian article about the World In Ferment series. Unfortunately, his cutting doesn't contain any copyright info and I doubt "The Guardian" is adequate evidence to enable the picture to appear again. So, in the end, I've snipped it out altogether for the time being.
Week Ending
[edit]Hi
I took the info from my copy of the contract I received from the Beeb. It states:
Week Ending; Series 79; Prog 9 Project number: 94LD0511LH0 Broadcast date: from 3.3.95
Hope this helps.

File copyright problem with File:IMG 0918 Paresi Drumming.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:IMG 0918 Paresi Drumming.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Closedmouth (talk) 12:55, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi
The image was provided by the subject for use on this page. It stems from a press kit and I will attempt to edit image data according to the advice on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Non-free_promotional but as the instructions on copyright tagging generally is so totally overwhelming to the newcomer, I may get this wrong. Please advise before deletion if there is a lack of clarity/a more suitable tag. Thanks. (Iangreaves (talk) 16:51, 11 July 2009 (UTC))
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:IMG 0918 Paresi Drumming.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:IMG 0918 Paresi Drumming.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Angus McLellan (Talk) 22:01, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Removal of image on Andrew McGibbon page, 20 Jan 10
[edit]A fully approved image of Andrew McGibbon was removed from his page this morning without discussion, despite my providing a full and detailed explanation in the image data of the copyright situation. This I wrote after spending a long period of time hunting through regulations, which I believe I cited correctly. The text also asked that I should be contacted with a week's notice to dispute the problem if there was an issue, which had already happened after I initially loaded the image without explanation. I had assumed the situation was resolved.
It's hard to say now what this explanatory text read like as it has also been deleted, again without discussion. Andrew owns the copyright to the image via his company Curtains for Radio, and he supplied a high resolution copy for specific use here. It was his request that it was used. This was all stated. Was this explanation ever read by the bot? Iangreaves (talk) 15:59, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
- If you're referring to File:IMG 0918 Paresi Drumming.jpg, the image has two major problems with respect to our policies:
- It isn't free content. Simple permission for use on Wikipedia (which is what it seems you have) isn't good enough. For an image to be considered free content, the copyright holder needs to permit everyone to copy the image, modify the image however they please, and distribute modified copies. Permission for use on Wikipedia meets none of those points.
- It doesn't meet our non-free content rules. Non-free images (such as the one under discussion) cannot be used on Wikipedia if it is possible for a free-content image to be found or created.
- I hope this helps you understand why the image was deleted. --Carnildo (talk) 22:15, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

COI
[edit]Hallo Ian, I notice that Tanya Sarne is the first article you've worked on for quite a while, and that you uploaded the photo as "own work", so you were obviously face to face with her in "c. 1995". Was it at a public event, or are you connected to her, as friend, family member, colleague, employee etc? Please read WP:COI and confirm here whether you have any such connection to Sarne. I'm sure she's notable, but it may be that you shouldn't be writing the article. Thanks. PamD 08:50, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi PamD.
- Re photo I think this must be some sort of error made in the process of compiling the page. Apologies for confusion. I certainly didn't take the photo. In terms of credit, obviously a tickbox along the way was misunderstood. If this can be amended, or if it needs removing, then go ahead. I wasn't able to find a photographer name but it seemed to be one of those 'buy out' pics that had been popping up online in relation to the memoir.
- I have no COI. I read the book and was surprised to find there was no page for her, so I built one - clearly a little rustily and out of practice, hence the photo error! Iangreaves (talk) 09:23, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, clearly no COI, just "an interesting person who ought to be in Wikipedia": I know the feeling!
- But the image is a problem. You apparently ticked a box to say that the image was your own work: that means that you took the photo and own the copyright. If this is not the case then someone else owns the copyright and it must not be in Wikipedia or Commons unless the copyright owner has given permission for it to be used, not just in Wikipedia but in general. Please amend the record for that photo to say where you got it from and clarify its copyright status. Thanks. PamD 12:16, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- I think best to err on side of caution, so have deleted photo. Iangreaves (talk) 12:32, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, sadly probably right. Wikipedia is very hot on complying with copyright. PamD 16:16, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- I think best to err on side of caution, so have deleted photo. Iangreaves (talk) 12:32, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
Reference formats
[edit]Now that the article you started on Tanya Sarne has survived AfD, please format the references so that they don't display the URLs. I did the first few, so you can see how it's done. Thanks. PamD 07:45, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi PamD, thanks for the update and your pointers. I've made the changes you suggest - perhaps you could check they're ok, and if so resolve the flag. Thanks. Iangreaves (talk) 12:31, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
