October 2007[edit]

Hello James, I'd like to take a moment to welcome you to Wikipedia, as I notice nobody has done so already. I'd also like to let you know about a few of the helpful pages here, and offer some tips for you to review. I notice your activity has primarily centered around the Gregory Short article, and this article is in need of attention. To that end, I have added a cleanup tag on it, and this will alert other editors that the article does not currently conform to the manual of style. Among the issues with the article, are the URLs added to the article space, which should be changed to be footnoted citations, but also the addition of Wikipedia articles as URLs. First, Wikipedia is not a reliable, third-party source that may be used to cite passages in articles, so they need to be removed. Second, any item that's related can simply be wiki-linked, and if it isn't mentioned in the article, but is related somehow, can be added to a "See also" section just above the "References" section, again refer to the Manual of Style for details. Also, the use of bolding of names is not following the manual of style (MOS), and those will need to be removed and cleaned up. Generally only the subject of the article is bolded in the initial introduction sentence, and other proper names are not bolded. Titles of musical works or books can be italicized, but not bolded. For additional help with the stylistic differences between Wikipedia and other sites you may be used to, you can review the layout guide, first article help, article development, and tips to editing. I hope this is of some assistance, and if you have a question feel free to visit the help desk which is manned 24 hours a day. Cheers! ArielGold 16:17, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Gregpic.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gregpic.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Gregpic.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gregpic.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:57, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't delete the cleanup tag without addressing the concern - this article is written like an interview or a magazine article, not an encyclopedia article. It needs to be rewritten to reflect Wikipedia standards. Corvus cornixtalk 04:47, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Short.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Short.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
