Hindoo

[edit]

Hi, do you have a source for this use of "Hindoo" to refer to Indian-influenced design? I've never heard of this usage, though Hindoo is of course a common spelling of Hindu before the 20th Century. I know that the term "gothic" is also given an archaic spelling with a k added to suggest 18th century use of gothic motifs as opposed to later more "scholarly" forms of gothic revival architecture, so the similar use of spelling-archaisms as in "Hindoo" wouldn't surprise me, but it does not seem to be very well-established. Paul B 11:59, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest I cribbed almost all of what I wrote from lecture notes I took in an architecture class, and sometimes it was referred to as "Hindoo Gothick." And in looking for some reference I discovered I may have plagerized a little... going to have to fix that...
Anyhoo, a quick check on "Oxford Reference Online" lists an entry from the Dictionary of Architecture and Landscape Architecture on "Hindoo." And it's pretty much verbatim what I wrote.
Any advise on what else I can do?--Jhlynes 17:27, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Update: I just checked what the wikientry says and it's not plagerized, so I needn't have worried on that front.--Jhlynes 17:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. We need to add a source. I will also create a dab page for Hindoo, since at the moment it is a redirect to Hindu. It appears there is also a famous horse called "Hindoo" who has his own article (Hindoo (horse)). I have created Hindoo style for a section on architecture, which at the moment is just your text copied. You can't plagiarise a word. As long as your text is not cut-n-pasted from copyrighted text you are OK. Paul B 17:42, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kim response

[edit]

As we were building the List of characters from The Venture Bros. page, prior to having the secondary characters page, we came to consensus on the rule that only character who've appeared in at least two episodes be added to the page to prevent overflowing. Kim was in two episodes and was mentioned in at least one other. -th1rt3en 23:06, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am curious about your recent edits to Anti-Mormon; you wikilinked several names. However, a few of the names do not have articles. When I see wikilinks in red, I typically remove the wikilink (Occaisionally I write the missing article). Why do you make links when the article does not exist? Is there a guiding policy? Thanks for your edits and I look forward to talking with you. Storm Rider (talk) 04:27, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Basically it just bugged that the author spoke like the reader was supposed to know who he was talking about; I'm sure I'm not the only one to whom those names were meaningless. I put links on them hoping someone would see the red ones and draw the same conclusion I had and either, a) write a blurb about them, or b) redirect the link to the correct person or subject. I was looking for information and thought others might also be looking for the same information. --Jhlynes 16:17, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Jhlynes! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 309 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
