User talk:John Patrick Hemingway
Hello, John Patrick Hemingway. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. JC7V7DC5768 (talk) 17:17, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
Hey
[edit]Hi, you can refer your question to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Help_desk for better understandings of our COI policies or you can get consensus to add the pic to your page on your article's talk page. Thank you JC7V7DC5768 (talk) 17:52, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- Further to your question about how you can have a conflict of interest regarding your own biography: Wikipedia policy discourages people from editing their own biographies at Wikipedia because your desire to have an entirely positive biography is at odds with Wikipedia's goal of having a neutral biography of you. This is not to say that everyone who edits their own biography is going to completely whitewash it, but the temptation is there, and so the matter is discouraged. If you find issues with your biography that require attention, you should address the matter at the article's talk page. As for uploading a new image, the image uploading rules can be very hard to comprehend at Wikipedia (because they are taking an abundance of care to avoid copyright issues). If you have a picture that you yourself took, you should be able to upload it, as long as you properly claim that you yourself took the picture and it has not been previously published.
