Mr. B's Bistro is located in the heart of the French Quarter (201 Royal Street, New Orleans, 70130). It is presently owned and operated by Cindy Brennan. Mr. B's is regarded as the "Brennan's Signature" restaurant in the French Quarter(Zagat). It has been named the 2010 number one Gourmet Creole Bistro (Tom Fitzmorris). The building was built in the 1860's and this corner has been a New Orleans landmark. In 1868, this once quiet corner was transformed into Solari's Market. New Orleanians came from all over town to visit the soda fountain/lunch counter and to shop in the specialty gourmet grocery which also specialized in rare liquors, exquisite candy and imported cookies. Solari's closed it's doors in 1965. Fourteen years later in 1979 Cindy Brennan and her famous restaurant family opened Mr. B's and it's a true French Quarter frixture famous for deft cooking of regional specialties in a warm bistro setting. Since it's inception Mr. B's has been an integral part of an on-going process of redefining New Orleans cooking by utilizing South Louisiana's endless potential of indigenous ingredients to create a style of cooking referred to as "Creole Cuisine". Paul Prudhomme is a famous alumni chef of Mr. B's having been the opening chef. His dishes include the famous Gumbo Ya Ya (chicken and andouille sausage). Chef Michelle McRaney has been at the helm of the kitchen since 1995 and Mr. B's is under the direction of longtime General Manager Randy Stein, a 40 plus year veteran of the industry. Mr. B's has been lauded for their consistently vibrant Louisiana food and impeccable yet friendly service by Food & Wine, Gourmet, Travel and Leisure, and Bon Appetit. Among many dignitaries, three presidents have dined at Mr. B's; Ronald Regan, George W. Bush, William Jefferson Clinton. Mr. B's suffered catastrophic damage in August 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina and was closed for 20 months for a full renovation. The restaurant re-opened it's doors on April 16, 2007.
