Speedy deletion nomination of Rateen

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Rateen, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Speedy deletion nomination of Rateen

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Rateen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Why does Username:Frank want to delete the page Rateen?

KDDA (talk) 20:28, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He thinks it fits under CSD A3, which means an article has very little content. "Very little content" is defined as "Any article (other than disambiguation pages, redirects, or soft redirects) consisting only of external links, category tags and "see also" sections, a rephrasing of the title, attempts to correspond with the person or group named by its title, chat-like comments, template tags and/or images," none of which directly apply to the article. This is an incorrect application of criterion A3 and as such the speedy deletion should soon be declined by an administrator. I believe that any settlement that is populated by more than a few people is generally eligible for an article. Xenon54 / talk / 22:05, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed you seem to have some problems with pages being deleted. Wikipedia seems to have a policy on original research to prevent articles like the 'Maguire Kings' being written (see the revision history of Maguiresbridge around 27 April 2007).
If you cite sources (either printed or on the web) the article usually remains. Unknown Unknowns (talk) 11:38, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have had a rather long and heated discussion on Wikipedia IRC channel. The majority of the material I have gathered is classed as original research and apparently is not suitable for a page on the Wikipedia. I do feel quite angry about this as it further disadvantages rural communities, as no-one is recording/documenting the history, in time it will be lost.

The whole idea of using Wikipedia was to collect and discuss the history. For example our discussion regarding the meaning of Aghadrumsee. By the time the wiki administrators hack through the material it is meaningless! Hence, I admit defeat!

During this process I have come to realise that the actual Wiki medium/software is a very powerful and time saving tool. This has lead me to thinking about setting-up a dedicated wiki, what are your thoughts on this? and more importantly would you help me?

KDDA (talk) 18:12, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I understand you frustrations, I eventually created this website about my old school because I got tired of Friends Reunited removing my comments from their message boards.
If you want to do the same sort of thing for Killyfole then go here:
http://sites.google.com/
Google websites and wikis are completely free. I've never used their wikis but if you create a website and need any technical help then just ask.
Rather ironically you will then be able to cite your website as a source for your entries on Wikipedia and they will no longer be original research!
Unknown Unknowns (talk) 11:14, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know who wrote the article on the Maguire Kings? I would love to read it. There is a stone mound in Lisnaskea and it is said to be where he was crowned as King. Might see if i can get some photographs of it. You said you was original from this area, where-abouts?

KDDA (talk) 22:12, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I spent my early childhood just outside Maguiresbridge but most of the people I knew are now dead or have moved on. I've still got various cousins of various sorts in the area but I haven't see them since I was in my pram (if at all) and have no wish to do so.
I can't remember who wrote the Maguire Kings article but it bore an uncanny resemblance to this vandalism to the Maguiresbridge page.

Delete away!!

[edit]

Feel free to delete any and all of the material I submitted. I wouldn't want so called original research to pollute the Wikipedia. How about deleting my user page too? Then we can pretend I wasn't even here!
