Curious about something[edit]

Hey -- I marked Mike Horning for speedy deletion a little while ago; the author revised to get rid of the speedy mark and made a reply in the discussion page. I'm just wondering, how did you find the article to delete it? Do the speedy-delete nominees remain up somewhere even if someone takes down the tag? Just curious. Thanks! Mangojuice 05:01, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Somebody spill the beans, or were you on my page? (Just curious.) Thanks for noticing, though, and for leaving me a message. I appreciate your kind words. It's so wonderful to know I can still count you my wikifriend. :D adds another "favorite user" to her userpage Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'll be talking to you...ciao!--ViolinGirl 12:58, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS Hey, did you notice that I was impersonated? User:VioIinGirI... That would have been nice to have for adminshsip, eh? :P

Ah, okay. I was just curious. Thanks for letting me know. Re:impersonation: Yeah, I was so proud. After Encyclopedist was impersonated, I was just waiting for the moment. Of course, as I mentioned already, it doesn't really matter now, but, still...boosts my self-esteem...(as if I need any more of that XD) See you around, have a nice day!--ViolinGirl 13:27, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Santa Claus article[edit]

Hey, FYI, the Santa Claus article has been vandalized again. I noticed you did the last revert. I can not revert it because of a spam filter problem. (???) James084 19:32, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Proposed "Edit of the Day"[edit]

Thanks! I added it. Feel free to add good ones like that to my user page directly. Owen× 19:53, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reply[edit]

Hi there. Your opposition, and comment, were not redundant, they highlighted some major problems in my editing, which I didnt realize beforehand were an issue. So, I appreciate your constructive critism, and am glad I havent any "just because" oppose votes. From what I've seen of users who warn diehard vandals, they often end up with penises all over their userpage. But you are dead right, there are cases of vandal reform and AGF often works. In the (about three) cases I've warned vandals I've done it personally, and have assumed GF. It is remarkable (like in the case of Mike Garcia) how some do reform and stop their actions. When I encounter "I love Sarah!" vandalism I usually just revert it as simple newbie testing, and when I come across a newbie doing good work, I will welcome them and ivite them to create an account. As for three, I have on occasion (in the dim and distant past) posted at the IRC channel, but never at AIAV. But sadly it is in my nature to battle on without calling for outside assistance, I will try to rectify that before the next RFA. So in conclusion, I will take your critism to heart and (depending on how the rest of today goes) consider withdrawing and re-doing this in a month or so when I've got everything in order. Banez 08:13, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see how the day goes with the rfA. Thanks for that page, I've just used it. Is my most recent contrib correct? By the way, that guy has vandalized about 10 times in a row, you may want ot block him. Cheers Banez 08:53, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Its those sort of people (the latter ones) who I would not say "welcome to wikipedia!" to. Thanks for the explanation. So the perverted scumbags who plaster images of genatalia over articles would be blocked very quickly? And yeah, I have in fact come across a phrase almost identical (you lost me with the giant part) to that. :) So, lets say someone does a obscure "wikipedia sucks", or "i like cheez wizz with cream" to "i like Jennifer" over and over again. I would progress from test1, to test2, to test3, to the final warning? And the (to recap) hateful/profane ones would get the BV and then a block? Thanks Banez 19:11, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No no no, of course, I hold to "be nice to vandals", in the polite sense. What I meant was I wouldnt give them the whole "welcome to wikipedia, thank you for your contributions..." blurb. Thanks for everything, and yes, if I can ever be of assistance, please let me know. Cheers Banez 19:31, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you again (please note, I'm not spamming you to make you change your vote). Could I have your feedback on my last few warnings? I've been doing some reversions/warnings and would like to know if I'm doing right, or wrong. Thanks Banez 11:41, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I'm starting to get the idea...Cheers Banez 17:35, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so I can use those in that order in most cases of vandalism? Banez 17:48, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all the help! I understand most of it now. Banez 17:56, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yeah, duh...*bangs head on wall* Last night I went down after being online, I'm like, "Mom!!! I was impersonated!" Ok, no response, try dad..."Oh." They'll learn someday...:D--ViolinGirl 12:26, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Upon re-reading my response to you at WP:AN/I I realize that it could easily be read as my snarking at you. While I think that the point I was making was a valid one, I decided to post a note here just to let you know that there was nothing even remotely personal in it, and I think it is great that you are modelling WP:AGF. I hope that my response is read neither as a criticism of that guideline nor, especially, of your forgiving nature. Thanks for understanding. Jkelly 04:12, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You said that I tested something.[edit]

I did NOT test the internet page. I saw it vandalized and so I copied and pasted the cached version from Google and said for it to be reverted. However, IT WAS NOT A TEST. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.32.169.244 (talkcontribs)

Userpage award[edit]

Yep - go for it! --Celestianpower háblame 13:27, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'm in. What did you have in mind exactly? -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 15:14, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ten nominations at a time is a good number to begin with. We can always tweak it as standards go up and people get more interested in the project. Are we still going to hold rounds every two weeks? -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 15:29, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great! The nomination page would be more useful if it gave instructions on how to provide a permalink, as well as reminding people that they can't be judges if their userpage is nominated (just stating the obvious). Right now I'm figuring out a way how to spam people in the spamlist using the Auto Wiki Browser to keep everyone informed. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 15:50, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, let's wait for Banes and get this sorted out on IRC. I just figured out how to spam Esperanza members using AWB, so that shouldn't be a problem now. I'm just a bit concerned of people's reactions when we start spaming 200+ talk pages... -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 16:23, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was just a test on my userpage to make sure I don't break things up :D. I'm not planning to spam anybody until we officially launch this. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 16:36, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I'd like to re-itterate my desire to work on it. It seems much progress has been made already? Is this working along the lines of RW and me leading it? Cheers Banez 16:47, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Looking good, KnowledgeOfSelf - I signed up as a judge. That is OK is it? As to spam, I'm writing up an update note that should be ready in a few minutes and it will include this new program. I don't see why we should wait. --Celestianpower háblame 16:49, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have done so already. And have made a suggestion (on how the judging will work) on the talk page. Anyway I think I'm reasonalby up to speed. Banez 17:07, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on IRC now so, if you want, anybody who want to discuss this program can go on? Banez 17:12, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey guys, I'm back, and I wanna join in. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 17:14, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, esperanza channel, CP is on there now. Hmm...can we be judges? Not sure..but I like our ceremonial position, we can give out the award ans choose judges... Banez 17:17, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your kind invitation[edit]

Hi Steve! Hope you're doing fine, and not planning to take another wikibreak... are you? No? Great! ;)
Regarding your kind invitation to take part in the User Page Award, I must tell you I'm honored and happy that you even thought about me, even tho I'm not a member of Esperanza. I'll be happy to nominate some pages that I find unusually attractive, but by all means, hun, I won't self nominate any pages I've made myself... I'm way too shy to do it... no, I'm serious! I really dislike being in the spotlight, and the reason why I make userpages for other people, is simply because I love to make them happy, not with a competition in mind. This being said, I am pleased and giggling that you actually thought of me, but seriously, baby, I'd die of shame if I ever tried to put myself on that list. If someone else wishes to do it, I guess I won't object, but I definetely won't do it myself. Don't worry, I always look at the quality of other user pages, so I'll provide plenty of material as candidates weekly.
Maybe someday I will actually go and join Esperanza. So far, I have seen nothing but great people in there. I suppose I'll have to think of a better signature when I do! ;) A million kisses, - Phædriel tell me - 03:52, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steve, babe, could you please do me a favor, if you're around? - Phædriel tell me - 20:56, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The award[edit]

Everything looks pretty much perfect now! It all looks good, well done! I'm ready to start as soon as we have all the candidates. Banez 06:31, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I noticed that Sango asked about winning more than once. I'm inclined to say that one can, but only after three more rounds have passed. If you know what I mean? What do you think? Cheers Banez 10:18, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page award misc[edit]

Sorry about not repying earlier, I had an unusually busy day today. The templates are fine, I'm thinking of maybe adding the Esperanza logo somewhere just to keep it consistent with other EA templates. Also the award is pretty nice, but I don't think the "EA" is sharp enough: I feel it blends a bit with the colours of the barnstar. OTOH, considering that I'm colourblind, it could be just me... Great work so far! I'll try to be on IRC between 19:00/20:00 UTC. Cheers!-- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 17:25, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User Page Award[edit]

Hi, KOS! Would you mind if I helped out with the award design? :D Thanks, Sango123 (talk) 22:07, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, sounds good. :) Cheers, Sango123 (talk) 22:45, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Sorry I didnt get to this earlier, do you still want me to add the other award idea to the pages? As a new header and section I presume? Banez 14:31, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, we're pretty close to getting the program underway, only 2 left! Can you get on IRC now? I wanted to quickly ask you about something, take a minute. Banez 14:52, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Guess whos been on there all evening? :) Banez 19:01, 31 January 2006 (UTC) (Still there, btw, do you want to rustle up the others?)[reply]

Sorry to bother you again, but I had an idea about the award, if we still want to go with having the head's sigs on it. We would make three different awards: The overseer for that week sig would be placed on the bottom middle, between the two bottom points of the star. The other two heads sigs would be placed in the white areas at the top left and top right of the frame. So, in theory, there would be three versions, each one having either yours, Rune_Welsh's, or my sig at the bottom. I personally think this would give the award a feeling of uniqueness. What do you think? (Feel free to utterly reject this, I was just musing :)) Cheers Banez 18:38, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page templates[edit]

Have a look at them and tell me if you are OK with the changes I made. I also tried to tidy up the language in some parts, so please check for that as well. Cheers! -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 22:56, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

so much for your wishes for my test. It was a Western Civilization I CLEP exam, and I passed!!!! (Scored like a SAT, and I got 53 points, where 50 is passing...what a relief!) And, yeah, about the userpage award thing...I wasn't expecting that. Well....anyway, I have to go, but thanks again for contacting me. Cheers!--ViolinGirl 17:35, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

substing {PAGENAME}[edit]

Hiyas KnowledgeOfSelf. I happened to run across your use of the Esperanza userpage award nomination template, and noticed that when I looked at the diff you aren't substing the {{PAGENAME}} template. It looks so much more personal if you subst it, they think you wrote the entire name out yourself. ;) --Syrthiss 20:01, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page nomination[edit]

Thanks, it's very kind of you. There's a huge but however: the layout of my user page was prepared by User:Blankfaze. The layout is really great and several people have adopted it after me (User:Piotrus for instance), but if anyone is to be awarded for it then you should contact Blankfaze :) Halibutt 20:23, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The template[edit]

Sorry, as I went off IRC I remembered something. Do you think the template could be a little more condensed, width wise? Cheers Banez 21:09, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My userpage[edit]

Sure. It's just that there are a few things that annoy me about my page, and that I've neven gotten around to fix... perhaps by the next contest, as I'm sure this will be popular. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 21:14, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage[edit]

Hey, thank you for the nomination. I should note that most of the layout was cheerfully stolen from Talrias, and most of the silly pictures are Essjay's fault. (Except the silly picture of the girl in the hat...) :-) Mindspillage (spill yours?) 22:16, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB[edit]

Hey there. just came in from work about an hour ago: I'm still so tired as hell, I worked 10 1/2 hours :).

To do the database thing, you write {{imdb name|id=(id numbers)|name=( write name of person here)}}. example, {{imdb name|id=0461498|name= Beyonce}}, which should produce:

The id will usually be a bunch of nembers in the address box. You'll see "nm", then a bunch of numbers will follow. If this is confusing, let me know. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 04:36, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, there's a category for lesbian Wikipedians. And no, it isnt strange, one of my best friends is a lesbain. She's inlove with Angeline Jolie (but don't tell her I told you lol). Its at Category:Lesbian Wikipedians. Yes, Ive seen the msg fr Banes, ill get to him momentarily. I'll also try 2 find that photo.

Just to clariify about the id numbers. When you go to the person's page on IMDB, there is supposed to be a bunch of numbers in the address box (the address box is at the top of this screen where you see http://www.wikipedia...) . For example, the page for Beyonce displays: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0461498/. The 7 numbers after "nm" are the id numbers. get it?Oran e (t) (c) (e) 04:56, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No it does not. the only difference is that the id numbers will appear after "tt" instead of "nm". And for the category' its found at Category:Gay, lesbian or bisexual people. sorry for tyhe slight misunderstanding btw. :)
By the way, whats the movie? Oran e (t) (c) (e) 05:07, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Ive bever seen that movie before lol. Have you? bTW, the lay out would be {{imdb name|id=0066445|name=Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon}}. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 05:14, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
yep, its at Category:American writers. I'm only 1/2 way through the article, but I like it already. good job. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 05:20, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems as if the id numbers "0066445" leads to the movie, while "00664455" leads to Terry Beeman. (The first one has only one fives at the end). Oran e (t) (c) (e) 05:26, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the link for you. It was a confusion on my part. See the difference. I really liked it. You're a very good writer btw. I was very impressed with the userpage project; kudos. I must also note how very impressed I am with the way you have blended into wikipedia, and have made quite a bit of friends. Congratulations, and keep it up. Yes, the template was easy to understand, and the instructions were crystal clear. You should be very proud. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 05:57, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
