An apology

Howdy. I came by to apologize about my language and for any BIETYness in my review of Sharada Peeth. On review, I do see aggressive (and perhaps snide but I can only read my words in my voice) language. That was not my intent, and I'm sorry that I appeared to speak down to you. My style for GANs was to leave short, concise, and insightful comments and suggestions like There is no citation at the end of this paragraph, but a years' hindsight reveals (for example) Citation [28] is also repeated needlessly to be rude. I will take your comments on this to heart, and hope you can forgive me. Sharada Peeth has been, since its GAN, my favorite GAN and the one I would have otherwise been most proud of as a reviewer. –♠Vami_IV†♠ 00:46, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Dear Vami IV, thank you for writing this sincere and thoughtful message. The acknowledgement means a lot to me, as do your words about Sharada Peeth itself. Tone can sometimes get lost on text, and perhaps an extra effort is needed to convey friendliness.
Seeing your response makes me think that in hindsight, perhaps I should have brought it up then rather than a year later at your RfA, but... this is Wikipedia, you meet all sorts here and not everyone responds positively to that kind of criticism. I'm protective of new editors – I remember vividly what it was like to be one – and I don't believe that a thick skin should be a prerequisite for a happy journey as an editor. I'm heartened that you will take my comments seriously, and hopefully this will foster a more welcoming environment for newer editors too.
All said and done, I remain grateful for your thorough and insightful comments on Sharada Peeth. I didn't realise that it was your favourite GAN and the one you would've been most proud of – this notwithstanding, I hope it will still be both things. I wish you a successful 2nd RfA whenever it happens, at which point I'd be happy to support you. And of course I hope our Wikipedia paths will cross again. :)

I have changed my GAN blurb to read:

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. My name is Vami, and I will be your reviewer. During this review I may make small edits such as spelling corrections, but I will only suggest substantive content changes in comments here. For responding to my comments, please use  Done,  Fixed, plus Added,  Not done,  Doing..., or minus Removed, followed by any comment you'd like to make. As my comments are addressed or rebutted, I will cross them out, and only my comments.

If I have demonstrated incompetence or caused offense, please let me know. –♠Vami_IV†♠ 22:40, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

I think there's room for improvement at followed by any comment you'd like to make. As my comments are addressed or rebutted to express my sentiment in a more inviting way. What do you think? –♠Vami_IV†♠ 22:40, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Post script: I am absolutely still proud of Sharada Peeth, and happy for you and that accomplishment. The article looks fantastic and I hope you take it to FAC some day. –♠Vami_IV†♠ 22:40, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

A small token of appreciation

Louise Gullifer, whose article I think you wrote?

Condolences for the Singaporean government images, will try to help with them later, when I have the energy, honest. --GRuban (talk) 17:07, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
