AfD nomination of Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia

[edit]

I have nominated Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Sceptre (talk) 14:50, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits

[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. about if you think the category "Egyptians of Syrian descent" should be in the three articles posted here: WP EGYPT On the basis that Tamer Hosnys mother was Syrian [1], Soad Hosnys grandfather was Syrian[2] [3] and Anwar Wagdi was of Syrian descent [4]--Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 12:16, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Acid 3

[edit]

Regarding the Google Chrome changes: remember that according to the Acid 3 rules, the browser has to be using its default settings. With the default settings applied, I believe there is still this pink dot in the upper right corner (I only have the 4.0 Dev Channel releases installed; if this pink dot is gone in the 3.0 Beta release, I admit that I'm wrong). --DeTru711 (talk) 22:10, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Walaa Adel

[edit]

Please look at User talk:Walaa adel#Why??? and the messages that follow it. Please make sure that a) Walaa understands and b) either you or Walaa have the courtesy to reply! I shall start to get annoyed if I see any more copy&pastes into Walaa's user space. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 18:33, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, I have contacted you before about actions that were annoying you from some of the users mentioned above... I thought we had the problem was settled when I told you about the whole project we're doing here, and our need to have a copy of the original article source to translate.. but it seems you still have something you want to say, so let me make this is a straight & simple as possible..
  1. All these users are part of a translation project to test the "toolkit" made by google
  2. Most of them work only as translators & they have very basic knowledge of wiki syntax, and sometimes none at all, so sending them messages all the time, and then deleting their articles because they're not explaining what they're doing is NONE SENSE because they don't even know how to reply to you, and sometimes don't even understand what you want... and I'm starting to think (sorry) that you're using this so you can do whatever you want
  3. I know we can just change the destination address in the toolkit, but this is Not Enough, because we need an exact source that no ones changes daily so we can compare the input with the output... we also can't risk comparing specific revision numbers because this is too complex & long procedure and is still editable by oversights... we needed a basis to evaluate the output and that's why we're copying articles.
  4. the copying procedure does not conflict with GFDL nor CC-BY-SA, as long as the original article remains intact with all its details, and can be even referred to at the beginning of the article.. besides all these copies will be deleted after the project is over (and this date is very soon now)
  5. if you're worried about search engine indexing, & categories disable them from the copied page yourself, it's much easier than creating a discussion page for deleting the whole article
  6. stop accusing these people of bad faith, we explained the whole thing to you, don't pretend we didn't, and this project is made in the end to contribute to Wikipedia, and all this effort has to be respected.
  7. I told you before who are the people responsible for this whole thing here, and are able to communicate with you & with other users.. the people are again for the record User:Meno25, ME, and User:AhmadSherif.. if you really want someone to answer all the messages u're leaving on the translators' pages, contact one of them.. and NOT THE TRANSLATORS cuz they don't know how to answer you! and those who know can speak only for themselves, so I'm trying to make your life easier here..
  8. I wish you a Happy New Year! :)

[edit]

I apologise for not replying to your previous message.

Let me make this is as straight and simple as possible: by all means continue your translation exercise but please understand that there is absolutely no need to do any edits to the English Wikipedia. Indeed there is no need for your group to have user IDs here.

To reply to your comments:

  1. Are you all from Cairo University and are you posting the translations anywhere apart from the Arabic Wikipedia?
  2. If they are directing their work to the Arabic Wikipedia then obviously they do need to understand wiki syntax.
  3. You are being ridiculously stubborn. Quoting revision numbers is not complex - it is the only way to record which version you have used for translation. Taking a copy to user space does not work: a) it is not easy to check whether changes have been made during the copy&paste and b) as you have seen, these copies will get deleted! If you copy direct from the article, the history will remain. Aparently you have not noticed that Google includes the revision number in the edit summary it generates. Obviously it is better for this revision number to relate to the proper article. What does "still editable by oversights" mean?
  4. The copying procedure does conflict: how many of the copy&pastes have stated the source in the edit summary?
  5. Your reply is incredibly cheeky and displays your obvious contempt for Wikipedia: if you are not prepared to comply with a very simple request to delete categories, then do not create the copy&pastes.
  6. Now you are simply being ridiculous: where I have I accused anyone of bad faith?
  7. An integral part of being a Wikipedia editor is being willing to discuss ones edits. The translators must expect to receive messages and if they are not willing to discuss, they must expect to be treated as rude. "They don't know how to answer you" - again, you are being ridiculous. They are translators, they understand English therefore they must be able to answer. But the simple answer is: if they stop creating copy&pastes, no one will leave them messages!
  8. I hope your New Year resolution will be to instruct your people to stop creating copy&pastes.

I regret to say that I find your entire attitude rather selfish and completely at odds with the co-operative spirit of Wikipedia. Whilst we are sympathetic to activities supporting other Wikipedias, taking a severe view, one could say that your copy&pastes are a violation of our Wikipedia is not a free host policy.

As a matter of interest, how are your translations being recieved on the Arabic Wikipedia? I note that the four people above are apparently just as unwilling to discuss their edits in Arabic as they are to do so in English.

I give you fair warning: if your people continue to create copy&pastes here, I shall start to apply blocks. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 04:32, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Koraiem. I had been reading the article Ali Moustafa Mosharafa. And it seems like you have some contribution in it. You mentioned that you have some of Ali Moustafa's books. I was wondering if I could get some of his research papers. There is not much verifiable information about him on the net. --Wahj-asSaif (talk) 18:33, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Contests

[edit]

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:29, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
