Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Lamont Land, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as User:Lamont Land, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

New to Wikipedia? Please consider taking a look at the our introductory tutorial or reviewing the contributing to Wikipedia page to learn the basics about editing. Below are a few other good pages about article creation.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Again, welcome! Drm310 🍁 (talk) 03:24, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Lamont Land, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:25, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I have no idea what I am doing. Can you unblock me so I can fix the page? You or I can delete whatever is not right. I was trying to describe my place of employment. There is no marketing or selling, there was nothing promotional in the words we posted, it was descriptive of our company which we thought wiki was for. My boss told me to just copy and paste to get something in there. I didn't realize we couldn't use our own material, I can put the information in my own words, that's not a problem.Lamont Land (talk) 14:59, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You are confused. This is an encyclopedia, not a business directory. See WP:NOT. Additionally, you are mistaken. Your words were definitely promotional. In fact, they were so promotional, I literally couldn't find a single sentence that wasn't in violation of WP:PROMO. Please take the time to read and understand WP:COI, WP:PAID, WP:PROMO, and WP:USERNAME. Once you have done so, please follow the instructions above to request an unblock. You'll need to tell us what you plan to write about instead. Yamla (talk) 15:04, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

A few things to explain here. It was wrong for your boss to instruct you to create a page for your company, and here's why.

A company (or person, event, idea, etc.) is not entitled to have an article on Wikipedia just because it exists. Wikipedia has the concept of notability; a topic must be of interest to the world at large and over a period of time. We use evidence from sources that are both reliable and independent of the topic to gauge this attention. In the case of companies specifically, there are more refined criteria. We have no interest in what a company wishes to say about itself, only what others who are not connected to the company have chosen to publish about it.

Writing about your own company is a conflict of interest, and using Wikipedia to draw attention to it is promotion. We've heard lots of people use the claim of "it's not promotion, it's information" but in fact, yes, it's still promotion if you're using Wikipedia for purposes that are ultimately self-serving.

Additionally, your account name was always going to be a problem. We don't allow accounts to be named after businesses; accounts can only represent and be accessed by a single individual. It is possible to combine a company name with an individual name (e.g. "John Doe at Lamont Land"), as this designates an individual. However, you would still be bound by Wikipedia's mandatory and non-negotiable paid editing disclosure policy. Even so, users are not usually unblocked if their only motivation is to write about their employer.

I'm sorry that you were directed by your employer to perform a task that was doomed to fail before it even began. There are plenty of alternative outlets outside of Wikipedia where you can write whatever you want about your company, so perhaps you should concentrate your efforts there. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:44, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help

[edit]

I find this site so confusing. Other developers have pages on this site but ours is promotional? I don't understand. Can you tell me how to delete my profile and and information or do I just leave it and walk away? (Lamont Land (talk) 16:54, 14 September 2020 (UTC))[reply]

Accounts cannot be deleted; if you don't want to edit Wikipedia anymore, just abandon your account. If you want to contribute as an individual editor to topics where you don't have a conflict of interest, you can request a change of username.
Above, I explained the concept of what makes a company notable and worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia. If you feel that there are other companies that fail to meet this standard, please point them out to us and we can look at them. With over 6 million articles and an entirely volunteer-based community of editors, it's entirely possible that other unsuitable articles have escaped our notice. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:17, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Drm310 Thank you, for all of your help Drm310. I do appreciate it! I will read the articles you supplied and try again. Honestly, wasn't a task I wanted to tackle with no computer knowledge. (Lamont Land (talk) 17:31, 14 September 2020 (UTC))[reply]
