Liberation3, I reached the same point a couple of years ago. I had been editing very happily from various IP addresses for about five years and got into my first content dispute. Tempers flared and I was accused of all sorts of misconduct ... sockpuppetry etc. Some people are just dicks and if you disagree with them, they come charging at you like a rabid Rottweiler and nothing is off limits for them. I still do most of my editing from IPs but if I have the slightest suspicion that the article I'm about to edit will be contentious, I use this named account.
