Hello, Ukessaysofficial, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Your comments in the discussion below are more promising than we usually see from editors with a conflict of interest. As long as you avoid direct edits to the article and discuss changes on the talkpage instead, I don't see any reason for you to remain blocked. That would be OK. But consider what you wrote there and how it dovetails with this query:

In answer to your questions:

  • Yes, I fully understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a platform or "soapbox" for promoting one's own products or company.
  • Yes, I have fully read the COI information and believe that you interpretation of what I mean by "curate" is not in line with what I meant. The COI guidelines clearly state that:

"Non-controversial edits[edit] Editors who may have a general conflict of interest are allowed to make certain kinds of non-controversial edits (but note WP:NOPAY above). They may:

remove spam and revert unambiguous vandalism, remove content that unambiguously violates the biography of living persons policy, fix spelling and grammatical errors, revert or remove their own COI edits, make edits where there is clear consensus on the talk page (though it is better to let someone else do it), and add reliable sources, especially when another editor has requested them (but note the advice above about the importance of using independent sources)." These are the only actions that I refer to by using the word "curate".

  • Yes, I understand that content needs to be "notable" to be included in Wikipedia. For the record the page on UK Essays was added to give additional information regarding the business practices of [Barclay Littlewood] who is the celebrity owner of the business. It should also be noted that UK Essays as an organisation have received a huge amount of international press and TV coverage over the last 11 years and I believe that entitles the article to be "notable".

I would like it understood that the only reason that I chose the original username of UKEssaysOfficial was to try and comply with the COI guidelines and declare my interests as being an employee of UK Essays. I believe that other than the creation of the original page (which was written as neutrally as possible) I have complied with all policies regarding COI. Anyone is welcome to look at the edit history of this account and will see that as an individual I have updated pages grammatical or factual inaccuracies and have not made any attempt to promote the company for which I have declared that I work for.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ukessaysofficial (talkcontribs)

The Founder of Wikipedia has stated that "those with COI should never edit their article directly, but should only propose sourced changes on the article talkpage in order to achieve consensus for the changes". I don;t see I am supposed to do when the founder's wishes conflict with Wikipedia's own stated COI policy that clearly says users with a COI may remove vandalism and correct grammar and spelling. I just wanted to take part in Wikipedia, to share my qualifications in English with the rest of the world and to try and make a contribution to the information that is presented to users on this site across a range of subjects. If an admin tells me that despite the COI policy that I cannot remove vandalism from any page where I may have a COI then fair enough, I will abide by the rules and flag changes to admins rather than editing anything myself.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ukessaysofficial (talkcontribs)
