You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles 05:21, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Why?

Anytime that I wish I can go to a library and post more of these questions. Please ANSWER IT AND I WILL STOP! Why is Aretha Franklin's page not locked in compliance of the biographies of living persons? Thank you.

I just think that if some pages are locked for this reason, then ALL of them should be. It seems like hypocrisy to me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.180.79 (talk) 02:44, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

But...

If necessary? So, basically if their page gets vandalized a lot? If this is the case, why don't they all say that they're blocked for the same reason.

I know I may seem like an ass, but I'm trying to learn. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.180.79 (talk) 02:49, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

  • If all pages were protected then many users wouldn't be able to add useful and factual information to them. If you are interested in the Wikipedia protection policy you can read more about it here. Mato (talk) 02:55, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

hogging sexual would redirect to hogging and sagging, and my attempts to correct it have resulted in you folks yelling at me! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.75.0.203 (talk) 03:00, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Good catch

I missed the vandalism on David John Weston that you caught and corrected. Thanks.

The Story is a Lie

Why can people not know the truth, some corrupt person with sympathetic views to a con artist alcoholic continues to remove what I write and why do you protect her or him. At least the Nazi burnt books they did not like, they did not edit them in their view of the world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truthinpress (talkcontribs) 17:23, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

baffled

So you just reverted my edit and reinstated the word "fornicate" in a Seinfeld episode summary. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fusilli_Jerry

Aside from the fact that this seems like a complete waste of time for both of us, do you really think "fornicate" makes sense here? Try reading it, it is completely out of place with the tone of the article. When was the last time you asked your wife/girlfriend "would you like to fornicate"? They definitely did not use the word "fornicate" in the episode in question. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.77.17.178 (talk) 18:03, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

  • I reverted your edit because you linked to a non-existent image in the infobox, messing with formatting issues. You can change your word back if you wish to, although the word fornicate implies something that the term 'having sex' does not... Mato (talk) 18:12, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Editing "Jarosław Lasecki"

Hi, by mistake I added not proper information about Mr. Jarosław Lasecki. I need to edit it without vandalism, but unfortunately I'm a new user of Wikipedia so its quite difficult at this time. Would it be possible, at least to block the informations I have added?

Thanks for your help —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobolus (talkcontribs) 15:29, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Sorry I did not realise you were the author of the page in question. Please continue to edit it as you wish, ensuring you use correct English where possible. I will remove your vandalism warnings. My apologies. Mato (talk) 15:33, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
  • Bobolus is not the author of the text. I am. This text was a commissioned translation that the client (presumably by Bobolus on behalf of the subject of the article) has indicated that does not wish to pay for on the basis of his or her belief that the final sentence "He is married with five children" suggested that the subject is married to five children. I propose that the line in the article be changed to the correct English "married with five children", and if the poster indeed refuses to pay for the translation, then I assert that this text is my intellectual property and therefore should be removed until an article without conflicts concerning intellectual property can be created. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.150.77.247 (talk) 14:34, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
  • I will not seek to give you any advice on copyright violations, as I have limited knowledge in the area. As far as I am concerned and aware, there are no official copyright issues concerning the article (no official copyright claim has been logged) and so any text which is not written in correct English should be changed. I will change the last sentence to something which hopefully should satisfy everyone. If you still have legal concerns then I will attempt to find an administrator who has knowledge in the area. Mato (talk) 14:50, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Thank you for your help. It is my hope that the copyright issue will be resolved without further conflict. There is still an issue with the article because the link for the Manager of the Year link takes the reader to a baseball manager award, while the article is referring to a Polish business award. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.150.77.247 (talk) 11:26, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

  • If you find incorrect and unsourced information on a page, feel free to remove it, stating your reason for removing it in the "Edit summary" box. Mato (talk) 16:58, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Tom, I saw your request to block this IP. I have several concerns:

  1. Nobody's warned him yet.
  2. Nobody's asked him what he's doing.
  3. Are you sure he's doing the wrong thing? I'll note that he's also adding some categories to other people's biographies.
  4. Nobody seems to be reverting all these edits. That could just be due to collective inattention but it's interesting nevertheless that, so far, nobody seems troubled. Also, what's the point of blocking someone for vandalism if it's not going to get repaired.

Skim Guide to administrator intervention against vandalism when you get the chance. I'm not a stickler for requiring every report follow every last requirement in that guideline when it's obvious that someone is deliberately damaging our articles. Nevertheless, I do worry about blocking someone who may be trying to do so something useful.

Tom, thanks for watching over our articles and spotting this situation. I suggest you contact this person and if necessary, revert his edits. If he won't communicate and if he persists, then maybe we need to look at stronger measures.
--A. B. (talkcontribs) 04:04, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Sorry - it seems as though WP:AIV was the wrong place to voice my concerns. Will take a closer looks at the guidelines. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the advice! Mato (talk) 13:48, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Apoligize

Sorry man, i'm just testing out the time it takes to check vandalism. I am a reputable editor on Wookiepedia and Halopedia, but i have never edited a Wikipedia article before. I wanted to see if Wikipedia had a vandalism check as Wookiepedia. Once again, i apoligize. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobbyjoehog (talkcontribs) 14:52, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Give me an example how do you want me to add citation. Can't I use this Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).? And please tell me how to add pictures to the articles that does not have ones> —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.234.67.179 (talk) 18:29, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

  • You can see exactly what I reverted by looking here. I removed two sections: "Early life" and "Concept of mother". I removed this because there were no sources cited at all. To correctly cite sources you should, as you say, use <ref></ref> tags. Mato (talk) 18:34, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
  • With regards to adding pictures, you firstly need to upload a picture using WP:UPLOAD. You should ensure you are not violating any copyright issues by doing so. Images can then be added using a tag like this: [[File:Example.jpg]]. Mato (talk) 18:38, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, I have cited the Enigma Magazine right down in the page, but I am not sure how to cite it right up. I mean, how can I cite, like, million times from one source. I have posted my reference in External links. Would you help me fixing that?

Regarding the pictures, What is the proper license of Flickr's pictures, for example? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.234.67.179 (talk) 19:31, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Ok, so I can see you have referenced Enigma Magazine once by typing <ref>enigma-mag, p. 229.</ref>. If you wanted to repeat this reference in several places in the article, and wanted to avoid typing the whole thing out again, then you can change the opening tag of the first use of the reference from <ref> to <ref name=Enigma>. Once you have done this, you can than repeat the reference at any point in the article simply by typing <ref name=Enigma/>. Notice the backslash (/) and the fact that you do not need a closing tag. Hope this helps! Mato (talk) 21:21, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
  • Regarding Flickr's licenses, when you go onto the page on Flickr, you should be able to see a section on the right-hand side saying 'License' - click on that to view the licensing information. Mato (talk) 21:25, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Blocked!

Someone block me and delete almost everything I did. May you tell me what should I do? --KmtCobra (talk) 22:30, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

  • You have been blocked from Wikimedia Commons (not Wikipedia). You can see the comment from the blocking admin on your Commons talk page. You are suspected of having a second account on Wikimedia Commons (commons:User:Capolinho). This account has been warned numerous times about uploading files to Flickr in order to upload them to Wikipedia. Mato (talk) 23:39, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I don't know who's (commons:User:Capolinho). I told the admin there so. May you intervene to solve this misunderstanding? --KmtCobra (talk) 23:53, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

  • To contest your block you should write on your Commons talk page, underneath the explanation the admin gave. If you wish to claim that you are not the same user as Capolinho, then make this clear in your appeal. Once you have written your appeal I will notify the admin that you have appealed. Mato (talk) 00:01, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

I've done everything you told me and nothing changed. May you notify me if the admins there reply? By the way, this picture is on Flicker and I am thinking of uploading it. It was uploaded by another user in 2005. Is there any problem? I know that I've been blocked there. I want to know, can I upload it here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by KmtCobra (talkcontribs) 00:44, 20 November 2010 (UTC) --KmtCobra (talk) 00:52, 20 November 2010 (UTC)--KmtCobra (talk) 00:52, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

  • I have notified the admin and you must wait for him to reply. You cannot upload that image as it contradicts Wikipedia's policy. This page shows you a list of the types of files on Flickr you are allowed to upload, with small logos to help. As you will see on Flickr, the file you have suggested has the licensing logos which correspond to "CC-BY-ND", and cannot be uploaded to Wikipedia. Mato (talk) 00:53, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

This page is not helpful at all. I have checked this one instead. OK, how about this picture? --KmtCobra (talk) 02:57, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

I want to know what license apply to facebook pictures?

  • Sorry my mistake, wrong link. You cannot upload pictures from websites where the copyright status is not presented (ie. Photobucket and Facebook) unless you have direct permission from the person who holds the copyright (for photographs, this is usually the photographer). Mato (talk) 14:09, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

No problem. I just have one more question, how can I delete my account from Wikipedia? --KmtCobra (talk) 18:16, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

But I don't want to be here. Is there a way to deactivate my account? --KmtCobra (talk) 18:28, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Unfortunately the creation of an account is permanent for technical reasons. If you don't want to be here, you don't have to ever log in again! Mato (talk) 20:07, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Oh, OK. Thanks. --KmtCobra (talk) 19:47, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism?

Hi, I was wondering why my edit to Will Slade was changed. I only made grammatical alterations, and this is by no means an intention to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia. Perhaps you were referring to the Will Smith page, as you typed in the message? If that is the case, then I am not your culprit, because I only edited the Will Slade page. I think there has been a misunderstanding. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.12.13.5 (talk) 19:05, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Please do not edit my warning messages. You were not making grammatical changes, this can be seen clearly in the page's history. If you continue to vandalise and edit your warnings, you will be blocked. Mato (talk) 19:09, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

SSM

In answer to your question, Phoenix of9 complained about the Bible references as giving undue weight to Christianity. Of course, this is absurd, but I am trying to keep him or her from continuing to revert every edit I make to the page.184.74.22.161 (talk) 18:29, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

  • If the editor in question continues to revert edits without discussion on the talk page, he/she will be blocked. Valid information shouldn't be removed because of the publicly undiscussed opinion of one editor. Mato (talk) 18:31, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Phoenix of9 02:05, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

That discussion is now closed. Mato, thanks for your feedback and for reinstating the challenged Biblical references. (I have since added supporting footnotes demonstrating that they have been utilized in the SSM debate.) I thought you might be interested in seeing Jimmy Wales' response (yes, that Jimmy Wales) to Phoenix_of9's inquiry about violent and hateful language on Wikipedia because of the inclusion of the Leviticus 20 passage on the SSM page. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Violent_.2F_Hate_Speech_in_Wikipedia. Cheers!184.74.22.161 (talk) 09:31, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Ekram Ahmed Lenin

When I made this Article, I didn't know that it was wrong name. Today I met him and took an interview. I found his name "Ekram Ahmed Lenin" instead of "Ekram Ahmed Lelin". This is same case in his every book cover page. If you want; I can upload all those cover page including ISBN numbers. Please give me scope to write about him freely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrkshahin (talkcontribs) 22:26, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

  • I understand what you are saying, but the community here at Wikipedia are currently considering deleting your article all together, because the person in the article doesn't appear to be notable enough for a Wikipedia article. If the community here decides that the person IS notable enough for a Wikipedia article, you will be able to change the name. If they don't, the article will be deleted. Mato (talk) 22:29, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

I am sorry I did not mean any harm. It was for boxing and UFC. Not for vandalism. Thanks.

An editor has the right to remove most messages from their own talk page

This is standard policy -- removing a message is considered evidence that the editor has read it. Looie496 (talk) 00:45, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

My mistake - thanks for the clarification. Mato (talk) 00:49, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Ekram Ahmed Lenin

Can you please retrieve this page of "Ekram Ahmed Lenin" from deletion ? I am really getting less hope and lost my faith to Wikipedia because peoples here work as administrator who delete the articles without justify it. The writer ""Ekram Ahmed Lenin"" has written seven books in Bangladesh and please see the cover page of one book http://covers.openlibrary.org/b/id/6670577-L.jpg I am trying to include his all books in Wikipedia. Wikipedia team may ask me for resources for verification or give me scope to bring those proof they required. I should not write or contribute anything from today either it is not resolved. Please solve it.Mrkshahin (talk) 18:47, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

  • When the page was tagged for deletion, you were given a chance to contest this and give reasoning as to why the subject of the article was notable. The deletion was discussed at WP:AFD/Ekram_Ahmed_Lelin and it was deleted because he was deemed non-notable.
You can take your appeal to WP:DELREV but I think it is unlikely to fail for three reasons:
  • Multiple editors have tried to ascertain notability with no success whatsoever, including using Bengali translations
  • You removed the tag from the page, which specifically said 'do not remove'
  • You attempted to recreate the article once it was deleted.
I sympathise with your frustration but feel you will be unable to get there - it would seem by general consensus that the subject simply is non-notable. Mato (talk) 00:31, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Meteora

the album meteora by linkin park is probably more famous and more notable than the greek monasteries of the same name. the search "meteora" should lead to a disambiguation page. thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Awolf58 (talkcontribs) 02:23, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

  • If you feel this is the case, then please state your opinion on the article's talk page so that other uses can discuss your proposal. Do not move pages without discussion. Mato (talk) 15:01, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
