Declined Article

Matt,

Thanks for taking the time to review the article I submitted. I'm wondering why it was declined, and what I can do to improve it for resubmission. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eknigge (talkcontribs) 22:06, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Eknigge! Thank you for your submission!
I'm assuming you're referring to this submission? If so, there are two major problems with the article. The first was that your article had no context whatsoever. I had no clue what it was talking about, and I'm normally good at figuring out what articles are about. The article needs to be written in such a way that everyone can understand it, not just academics.
Second, the article needs to be sourced properly. For information on how to cite sources, please see our referencing guide. Also, it would help if you found more sources.
Good luck on your article. Feel free to reply below if you have any other questions. ~ Matthewrbowker Talk to me 21:59, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

afc

i did not delete the article on Paul Hendrix . In its current state, it is adequately documented to show notability. it just needs addition of some references for the routine bio. In the absence of problematic material, this is not a significant BLP violation; AfC articles are there to be worked on & improved--if we deleted all AfC bios because they need more references, we'd delete almost every one of them. . If you disagree, let me know. Similarly for David Diem. I'm not sure there is enough documentation to accept it, and I just declined the speedy and left it for another reviewer. for Harvey Hess, I deleted the quoted material with an insufficient license, and moved it to mainspace, because he is notable and the article is sufficiently referenced. We do not delete via speedy unless the entire article is copyvio, or the copyvio is so pervasive it can not be cleaned. See WP:CSD for the alternatives.

If you disagree with any of this, let me know on my talk p. DGG ( talk ) 06:45, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

That's fine. I'm using a script, so it auto-tags BLP stuff for speedy deletion. They shouldn't have been tagged. ~ Matthewrbowker Talk to me 22:01, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 30 Beats, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jason Day (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WikiCup 2013 starting soon

Hi there; you're receiving this message because you have previously shown interest in the WikiCup. This is just to remind you that the 2013 WikiCup will be starting on 1 January, and that signups will remain open throughout January. Old and new Wikipedians and WikiCup participants are warmly invited to take part in this year's competition. (Though, as a note to the more experienced participants, there have been a few small rules changes in the last few months.) If you have already signed up, let this be a reminder; you will receive a message with your submissions' page soon. Please direct any questions to the WikiCup talk page. Thanks! Welcome to the 2013 WikiCup!

Hello Matthewrbowker, and welcome to the 2013 WikiCup! Your submissions' page is here. The competition begins at midnight UTC. The first round will last until the end of February, at which point the top 64 scorers will advance to the second round. We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders: *The rules can be found here. There have been a few changes from last year, which are listed on that page. *Anything you submit must have been nominated and promoted in 2013, and you need to have completed significant work upon it in 2013. (The articles you review at good article reviews does not need to have been nominated in 2013, but you do need to have started the review in 2013.) We will be checking. *If you feel that another competitor is breaking the rules or abusing the competition in some way, please let a judge know. Please do not remove entries from the submissions' pages of others yourself. *Don't worry about calculating precisely how many points everything is worth. The bot will do that. The bot may occasionally get something wrong- let a judge know, or post on the WikiCup talk page if that happens. *Please try to be prompt in updating submissions' pages so that they can be double-checked. Overall, however, don't worry, and have fun. It doesn't matter if you make the odd mistake; these things happen. Questions can be asked on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck!
