Speedy deletion nomination of User:Mattmcgrath26/sandbox
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:Mattmcgrath26/sandbox, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. (See section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. [edit]Despite being a new editor, you immediately wrote a full length promo for Rebel Penfold-Russell and her company and added spamlinks to both elsewhere. You have an obvious conflict of interest and you must declare it. If you work directly or indirectly for an organisation, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. If you are paid directly or indirectly by the organisation you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at Mattmcgrath26. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Mattmcgrath26|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If you are being compensated, please provide the required disclosure. Note that editing with a COI is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared. Concealing a COI has led to you being blocked. Also read the following regarding writing an article:
- you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the organisation or company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, logs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company or organisation claims or interviewing its management. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
- most of your text was completely unsourced, and your few supposed references were to Wikipedia, not suitable as a source, an entry in Screen Australia that just summarises the film's plot, and a couple of url links that seem to be about Priscilla rather than your company.
- The notability guidelines for organisations and companies have five components that must be evaluated separately and independently to determine if it is met:
- significant coverage in
- independent,
- multiple,
- reliable,
- secondary sources.
- Note that an individual source must meet all four criteria to be counted towards notability.
- Your text had few real facts other than the films it made. To show notability you need hard verifiable facts such as the number of employees, management structure, turnover or profits. You don't even mention having any offices or other locations.
- You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
- Most of your text was unsourced glowing praise for your company and your films The company carved its niche in Australian cinema with a blend of irreverence, camp, and heart... Latent Image is as storied as its productions... became known for films that found the intersection of flamboyant self-expression and genuine storytelling. Its early works made waves, but it was the latter half of the 1990s that brought the company international attention... occupies a quirky, well-polished niche in Australian film history, a constant reminder that cinema doesn’t have to be highbrow or perfectly manicured to be impactful. Under the direction of Rebel Penfold-Russell, Latent Image has shown that a bit of irreverence, coupled with a good story, can create enduring moments in film history. It remains a testament to the joy and chaos of Australian cinema, finding profound storytelling in places no one else thought to look
- There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
- You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
- I didn't check.
You said . I feel it is important at the time of the anniversary to have the full information of how this ground-breaking production came about to be documented... In no way was this intended as advertising or to benefit Latent Image. You thinking an article is needed is not a criterion for a page here, we need real, properly sourced facts that establish notability as defined above. And if you consider that your text wasn't promotional, I dread to think what you believe spam looks like.
Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article..
The procedure for requesting an unblock is in the box above, and any request will be reviewed by an uninvolved admin. You should indicate what topics you will write about since it's unlikely you will be unblocked if your only aim is to write about Latent, Rebel Penfold-Russell or the films. - Hi Jim,
- Thanks for the reply. I am in now way being paid to write the content. And appreciate all the tips on correctly including references etc. I understand now that the correct way to create content for Wikipedia is factual and demonstrate notability of the topic, without embellishments.
- Given that Priscilla Queen of the Desert was having a 30th anniversary at the National Film and Sound Archives in Australia, I wanted to fill some gaps in the information around the making of the film - Latent Image provided the main funding to actually make the film, and also Tim Chappell who won the Costume Academy Award for his work on the film, are not included in Wikipedia. Both seem important (I know it's my personal view) to anyone researching how the film was made especially given the impact it had on attitudes to LGBTQI+ people after the AIDS epidemic. The film is listed as one of the most significant LGBTQI+ films of all time by Time Out Magazine and still generates large audiences with theatre productions in over 80 cities worldwide and has been re-released on Amazon and free to air broadcasters recently.
- If I rewrite as per your guidelines would these topics be considered notable enough to be included? Please let me know your thoughts.
- Best, matt Mattmcgrath26 (talk) 07:28, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
