FPC archives

[edit]

Hi Michael,

I don't understand what you are doing with this edit and similar. In general the FP C nominations are archived in the FPC archive, and whilst there might be an argument for copying the discussion to the image that is actually a featured picture, it would probably be better on the image's discussion page. -- Solipsist 1 5:43, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

I am sorry. I was going through the Wikipedia:Untagged_images when I found a variation of the picture. I traced it back to the featured pictures where I found the copyright from a variation of this. I was linking each va riation and making sure the right tag was on each. I guess I got carried away, so I took off that. Thanks.
Ahh well, in that case, all power to your elbow. Working through PUIs is quite a job, but highly worthwhile. -- Solipsist 18:13, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, my source was Wikipedia! I took this map: Image:Position_of_Taranaki.png And then I tweaked it. Not only Palmerston North, but for EVERY city in New Zealand. Wiki Don 17:28, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Because the original is in the Public Domain, that means that you are also going to release your maps in the Public Domain ({{PD}}. Can you also tag your other maps that you made from Image:Positi on_of_Taranaki.png like this:
{{PD}} based of [[:Image:Position_of_Taranaki.png]]

Thank You --michael180 17:49, August 5, 2005 (UTC) I have done the cities off this table from List_of_cities_in_New_Zealand#Place s_informally_known_as_cities:

Image

[edit]

I have got that image "Image:Padmanabhapuram_Palace.jpg" from "www.swathithirunal.org".The image is not exactly like in that Website.I've altered it slightly. That's why I said ,I have created it.Thank You. - ??????? ????

The web site states that images are for non-commercial use only. These would be given the tag: {{noncommercial}} </nowi ki>. However, because Wikipedia is mirrored by commercial sites, such images are not allowed and will be deleted. Please tag all images originally derived from www.swathithirunal.org with the template <nowiki>{{noncommercial}} to await deletio n. Thank You. It does not matter that you modified it, the original image is still copyrighted. --michael180 21:16, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

List of IMAX venues

[edit]

I notice you're doing a lot of edits on List of IMAX venues, and as a courtesy have held off doing the following edit. The list has "Great Britain", this should be "United Kingdom". The list has "Scotland", this should be listed in the United Kingdom entries. The Entries under "Ireland" are actually in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom - so should be listed there. British Isles (terminology). You can make the edits if you want, but otherwise drop me a note when you're finished up and I'll make them. Wangi 15:42, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Amazing Race

[edit]

I'd be very careful in categorizing Jonathan's behaviour as being physical abuse. If you watch the incident closely, he merely shoved Victoria's backpack; he never actually pushed her or slapped/punched her in the face. The man's still an asshole, but claiming that he's a wife beater is clearly POV. --Madchester 01:31, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

Can you please explain to me what you ment by the following which you posted on User talk:147.31.4.44:

I notice though that you've done simple space insertions in much of the above so if you're going to delete this text make sure that you restore the above. It goes without saying that if you don't, I will. --Syrthiss 18:51, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

I don't get what you mean? I had to post my homework which I typed at school (we have a shard IP, so it wasn't me). They don't let us log on to anything, so I couldn't log in. I would have posted it on my us er page, but I can't edit anything else. Sorry about that, keep on the vandel patrol. --michael180 22:46, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That anonymous ip is blocked, which is why you can't edit anything else. As I said, I didn't mind you l eaving that there...but both times you inserted text you would insert little changes in the warning messages (on accident I assume). If you do a diff between your edits you can see that things like 'warning' became 'war ning'. I was just warning the van dal that if it was them trying to vandalize the warnings that I was going to come back and restore the page.
At least as an upside to this, I'm going to remove the block on that ip...which means you can go back to editing other pages. :) --Syrthiss 00:12, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that again. I guess I kept re-editing the warning messages because at school we are stuck on Netscape 4, where I just figured out that the page dosn't update when you save changes. Unlike Firefox, which I use at home, you needed to do a hard refresh to show changes. Sorry about that again. You might as well block that ip address. It is shared by schools in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Someone else will just vandalize pages again. Thank you for your time. --michael180 16:39, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adventure Ocean

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate your contributions to the Adventure Ocean article, but we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. Perhaps you would like to rewrite the article in your own words. For more information, take a look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Happy editing! Vneiomazza 22:38, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've fixed it. Thanks. --michael180 00:23, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By this edit you made Template:Vandalip a copy of the version as of that date of Template:SharedIP. Hence the template has now become redundant. Moreover, since the edit doesn't give a link to Template:SharedIP, the past history of the text pasted is not clearly visible, in violation of GFDL. (I'm not sure if the text is small enough to not be copyrightable.)

Should Template:Vandalip be made a redirect to Template:SharedIP? Or should Template:Vandalip be reverted to the earlier version where it only talked about reporting network abuse? I'd prefer the former since the "network abuse" clause has been added to Template:SharedIP. -- Paddu 06:57, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did not know about the Template:SharedIP template when I made that edit. I got the text from User_talk:143.231.249.141 which I mentioned in the edit summary. At that time I did not know that it was a subset of Template:SharedIP. I found it neat that it told users that it may be shared.
I believe that Template:vandalip should become a redirect for shard ip. I made that change because many vandal IPs are shard through a corporation. (However, not all are!) That makes it a sticky situation. But, because vandalip has one of those {{{1}}} things where you can insert information into the template, and because it says may be shared. It also may not be shared. Because the vandal ip template is on some IPs that are shared we need to mention that. So yes, I support the merge and redirect.
I think we need to propose that on the talk page. --michael180 20:07, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hidden templates

Ahoy there. I'm an admin on the YPPedia, the wiki for the Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates community. I noticed your name when looking over MediaWiki talk:Monobook.js. We have attempted to replicate the show/hide functionality of the {{hidden}} template on our wiki but with no success. If you have the time and inclination, would you be able to look over our files and see what we have missed? Everything that we have already copied uses the same name as on the Wikipedia, so you should have no trouble finding (or not finding) the relevant files. Orphaned fair use image (Image:RCI Brilliance ExteriorMntn.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:RCI Brilliance ExteriorMntn.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Chowbok 17:12, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:RCI Brilliance ExteriorSide.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Please do not upload images in the GIF format

[edit]

Hello and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you've uploaded a couple of images in the GIF format. In the future, please save GIF images in the PNG format before uploading (see Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload). PNG images almost always have a smaller file size, which decreases the amount of time they take to load. There are a bunch of other advantages to the PNG format such as lossless compression that you can read about on its Wikipedia article. —Remember the dot (t) 00:20, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Still images that are uploaded in the GIF format are generally tagged with {{ShouldBePNG}} and have to wait for someone (or the PNG crusade bot) to convert them. —Remember the dot (t) 00:22, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SVG tagging

[edit]

You recently tagged an image with {{ShouldBeSVG|png}}. "png" is not an accepted parameter for the {{ShouldBeSVG}} template; for a list of agreed parameters, please see {{ShouldBeSVG}}. I would currently use {{ShouldBeSVG|symbol}} for this image; if consensus is reached on the matter, then {{ShouldBeSVG|fairuse}} would be appropriate, as the image has the {{logo}} template on. Fair use rationale for Image:Fastlane.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fastlane.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Unspecified source for Image:Fastlane.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fastlane.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:03, 17 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 21:03, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mla cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mla cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion.
