When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because...

Because I am a Wikipedia user.

Because Wikipedia policy is that editors don't delete others' userpages unless they are egregiously out of bounds (WP:NOBAN).

Because I use the space in my userpages to demonstrate Wikipedia basics to students.

Because WP:UPYES specifically identifies "limited biographical content about fields you have knowledge in," "work in progress," "notes related to your Wikipedia work" and "experimentation" as acceptable content on userpages. Since I consider teaching students how to responsibly use Wikipedia as my "Wikipedia work", I of course welcome suggestions for changes to the userpage to more accurately align with WP:UP guidelines, but speedy deletion of a userpage seems out of keeping with the participatory and democratic nature of Wikipedia, and deleterious to the cultivation of more and more responsible future Wikipedia users. -- Michaelddwyer (talk) 00:56, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, you are a Wikipedia user but not a very well trained one. Your user page proper is reserved for telling us a little about what you do in the real world and plenty about what you do on Wikipedia. It should be written in the first person. That of which I have deleted countless copies qualified for deletion as a fake article.
User sub-pages may be used for drafts but please: find test data other than a bio about yourself and don't create so many of them. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:21, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your assessment of my Wikipedia training is noted.

I of course welcome suggestions for changes to the user page to more accurately align with WP:UP guidelines, but speedy deletion of another user's user page seems out of keeping with the nature and customs of Wikipedia.

I would appreciate it if, now that I've been minimally trained and properly chastened, that my user page be left alone barring serious violations of Wikipedia rules. — Michaelddwyer (talk) 14:25, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I only touched your page in the first place because it was a serious violation of Wikipedia rules. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 00:28, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
