Malfunctioning template?

Many thanks for these barnstars, friend. I just thought I'd let you know that the template/script you are using seems to be mis-firing a little; it is double counting some leader-board entries, so handing out extra barnstars, and also not counting 50% request page bonuses, meaning that users are given different barnstars than they should. Not a big deal, I guess, but might be worth checking, since you use those many times every month. Vanamonde93 (talk) 20:53, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Okay, but Jonesey95 designed the {{GOCE award}} templates and we haven't had any other complaints, so you may want to ask him. He's been very careful with testing, and has made a job which used to take hours (and nobody really wanted to do) infinitely easier. All the best, Miniapolis 21:00, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Oh, I think the work he has done is phenomenal, I just noticed that one extra barnstar popped up on my talk, and when I looked closer another looked different than what it should have been. I can post at his page, but I guess he'll see this ping eventually. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 21:04, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Not sure what you mean; I just double-checked your talk page (thinking that perhaps someone else is giving out the awards too), and there's only one barnstar. The leaderboard awards are (or should be—I'm getting punchy and have to start supper :-)) for different categories. All the best, Miniapolis 21:10, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
I guess I referred to them both as "barnstars." Apologies for the confusion. There should be only 1 award in the "long articles" category, not two; and it's joint first. Also, if you count the bonuses, I did more than 30k words. Again, I don't mean to sound nitpicky, I don't do this for the awards; it is the script that bothers me. Vanamonde93 (talk) 21:21, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
The duplicate award was pilot error on my part, for which I apologize; I was very busy at the time, and was trying to ensure that you got proper credit :-). I calculated the four request articles you did on my trusty calculator, and with the 50-percent bonus your total was 29,127 words. All the best, Miniapolis 22:46, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Ah I see. I won't quibble about word-count, that's not important, since if it was your error, the template itself is probably just fine. Vanamonde93 (talk) 00:56, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

I checked the math, and it looks fine to me. 2199+496+9575+7148=19,418 words. 19,418*1.5=29,127 words, including the bonus. 29,127+818=29,945 words, including bonus and rollover words.

I think I see the source of confusion about the 1st/2nd place discrepancy. We have a script that checks that math so that we can update the leaderboard and editors' total word and article counts. You can see the results here. Once the script does its work (by generating the table at the bottom of the page), we correct the leaderboard. I just copied the corrected leaderboard back to the July drive page. Hope that clarifies things. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:01, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Jonesey95, yes, thank you. The math is secondary; I probably made a mistake when copying individual word counts, but I'm not interested in tracking that down. Mostly I was curious about the extra award that popped up, which Miniapolis has now clarified. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 01:53, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Thanks for working on "Only Girl (In the World)" for me :)  — Calvin999 17:28, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
Glad to help; hope the fourth time's the charm. All the best, Miniapolis 17:31, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you so much Miniapolis! You did a wonderful job on the article. Thank you as well for the useful tip re: the Further reading section. I will work to better integrate the material into the article and I will let you know when I have done that. Enjoy the rest of your day.-Classicfilms (talk) 23:02, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Very glad to help; it was an enjoyable copyedit (not all are :-)), and assuming your sourcing is good it looks ready for GA. Good luck and all the best, Miniapolis 23:24, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
How nice of you thanks. Actually, you have inspired me to tighten it up a bit. I took your advice and for now just deleted the repeats in the EL section. I am going to think a bit about how I can integrate the rest of the articles and I should really check the refs to make certain all are working and if I really need all that are there. I've been building this article here and there over two years and thus it could be a little more cohesive. Your c/e is terrific, I'll make certain not to interfere with your changes - just want to make it a bit better -- and thanks, glad you enjoyed the read. I don't normally edit pageant articles but I think this biography is very interesting and worthy of a GA and thus have worked hard on it and related articles for awhile. Anyway, I'm also swamped in real life so I'll have to go about this at probably a snail's pace. When I'm done, I will drop a line.-Classicfilms (talk) 23:42, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Don't hesitate to change anything I've done. The only thing that's annoying is when an editor undoes hours of work with a single keystroke but besides that, nothing I do is carved in stone. Although the GA bar is lower than that for FA, in case you get a "fussy" reviewer it helps if the article is as good as possible. Thanks for keeping me in the loop and all the best, Miniapolis 00:07, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Blitz

Hello! Sorry for the bother. This is the first blitz I am participating in and I have a quick question. To determine what your word count is, do you record the page size of the article BEFORE you start editing and then just add up the total word count? I feel like I saw something explaining this before but cannot seem to find it. Thank you! John Vitzileos (talk) 22:46, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

No bother at all, and thanks very much for your help. The word count is the article before you begin the copyedit; copyediting usually trims the fat :-). There's a handy word-counting script which you can add to your .js page. Have fun and all the best, Miniapolis 23:09, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
