Gilded generation?
[edit]Can you update on the new "Gilded generation" page? It was slated for merge with all of the Strauss and Howe stuff. I appreciate your efforts, but you left no information about what's happened or why. Cheers, --Dylanfly 16:37, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- You must never delete a user's comments on a talk page, as you did to mine on Gilded Generation. That's a no-no. Best, --Dylanfly 17:36, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Uh oh. Another no-no. You deleted the proposed MERGE. That's yet another violation of WP policies. Please play by the rules, okay? --Dylanfly 15:55, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- Please don't touch the GILDED GENERATION anymore. The MERGE was voted on unanimously. Please make your contributions on the Generations (book) page. --Dylanfly 14:06, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Nobodysbusiness.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Nobodysbusiness.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:19, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Fair use disputed for Image:Pasparavridderne.jpg

Fair use rationale for Image:Ilkeatsisarpuolet.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ilkeatsisarpuolet.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Alpta 16:30, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, I was just editing the article you created for Ulla Taalasmaa for grammer/spelling etc, and I noticed the linked article for Seppo you also started might need some up-dating in light of the developments described in Ulla's article. Number36 01:37, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

NavBox
[edit]I say standard as it is a nav box especially for television, which means this should be used unless there is good reason not to. And I see no reason. There is also no need for the pink/purple colour of before, most templates (not all, but most) are the standard colour. The pink-purple is not related to the programme at all, so there is no need for such a bright colour. I've removed the stand alone episode, as the article should really be merged, it doesn't warrant its own article, so putting it on the template looks odd (especially as its the only episode with an article). --UpDown 16:20, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia needs to follow guidelines so it all looks like one project, hence why TV programmes should use the correct navbox. And what are the reasons for the bright, garish colours? Why not have the set standard Wikipedia colours?--UpDown 17:43, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- "Cheer up" the article - what do you think this is a children's book!!! This is an encyclopedia, we are not here to "cheer up" the reader, we are here to inform them in a clear and uniform way. A uniform way means using the standard TV navbox and standard colour, unless there is good reason not to. There is no good reason at all - cheering up the article is not a good reason. It's patronising frankly to the reader.--UpDown 07:01, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- Frankly, there are not "thousands" of brightly coloured navboxes, the majority are the standard colour. Anyway, we clearly are not going to agree, so I suggest that if you wish to take this further we involve other people? It is a waste of your time and mine if we continue arguing as we are going round in circles. What do you think about involving others?--UpDown 17:34, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate images uploaded
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Emmet Hawksworth.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Emmett Hawksworth.jpg. The copy called Image:Emmett Hawksworth.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.
This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. Keeping Up Appearances
[edit]Sorry but sentences like "You have nothing right to begin edit war again in the navbox page" and "Do it suggestion for new rule about coloir of TV navbox" I don't understand. They don't make sense. But to the point. You have provided no reason for the pink colour. It is no related in any way to the programme. If it was it would be acceptable, as its not there is no reason to deviate from normal Navbox. This is specifically for TV so why do you think we have a right to ignore it? In addition, the minor cast members, like Peter Cellier and Chairman May, have no place on a template. No more than they would in the Infobox. And a link to a very bad article on one episodes, which needs redirecting soon, is not necessary and looks odd. There is nothing special about the episode but your version suggests otherwise. May I suggest you read WP:OWN. Just because you created the template does not mean you own it or should have things your way on it. My version is the standard, tidier version of a TV programme template. --UpDown 22:50, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Why is it so difficult to understand? Must I start spell for you? You haven't evidently understand it that discussions must to keep where they have been began. Note you, you are going round in circles. You think it should be something special reason for using of pink colour in TV nav box. I recommend to you that also yourself read a page: WP:Own. Don't you also think it's quite inconceivable, using of colours is allowed in all other templates and navboxes of Wikipedia, but one TV nav box get into subject of despotism of one "righteous standards using" colour phobic? Don't talk about something standard, you don't look understand about it. Rules of Wikipedia don't know that sort of. --Movedgood 08:48, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- When Peter Cellier and Charmian May are concerded, they can be quite well in nav box. At least it doesn't matter. Though their roles are so minor that navbox isn't needed in articles about that actors. Besides, an article about it one episode can be there as long as it merging and redirecting really take place. --Movedgood 09:07, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- For a start even some of your sentences above don't make sense (ie: "you don't look understand about it"). And also there is no custom as to where one replies. I always reply on the other user's talk page, and most people have no problem with this, so please don't lecture me on it. Once again, no reason is provided for the pink. In other words you like the colour. Big deal, you don't matter. Wikipedia matters, and the standard colour should be used. And it does matter who is in the Navbox, to make it clearer for people using it. It should only be main cast, main characters. I will revert. You can't answer one single point. Please find support for your side if you wish to revert again.--UpDown 14:53, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- Please also read Template:Navbox. I quote "Styles are not recommended as to maintain consistency among templates and pages in Wikipedia. However, the option to modify styles is given in case it is necessary". I then refers to the "titlestyle" (ie the colour). So, these are "not recommended as to maintain consistency". It then says it may be done "if necessary". Explain why this is "necessary". As Wikipedia is quite clear I see any further changes to the bright pink as vandalism.--UpDown 15:13, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- There is nothing unconditional prohibition on using of colours in those text, purely recommendation. It's impossible to discover an other necessary reason to use colours than pure esthetical reasons. What you think, why colours are used starting from the main page? Is someone vandalized it?

Antero Vipunen
[edit]I don't think this article needs to be in the English Wikipedia. Could you please explain the possible value of this article to English-speaking peoples? -- Mumia-w-18 15:24, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- This is English language Wikipedia, not the Anglopedia. Articles about all culture subject matters from around the world are welcome here. Someone English-speaking person can want look for knowledge about the Finnish mythology and it will be good if he or she could find knowledge in one's own language. --Movedgood 15:40, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- I re-used this section, as I have a question about Antero Vipunen as well. Why do you think that the figure is present in Estonian mythology, ie. can you give a source for that? This is the first time I hear this whole association - and it sounds especially dubious since Estonian language does not have word vipu (bow is vibu in Estonian, crossbow is vibupüss or amb), while Finnish language does have a word vipu. Also, this thorough analysis does not mention anything about Estonia at all - and the only place there is even some connection is [2] here] where Toomas Hendrik Ilves where he just says "Kalevipoegin ja Antero Vipusen yhteisten motiivien tunnistamiseen ei tarvita pitkälle kehittynyttä kirjallista vaistoa". So could you please give the source, as I do think it is needed.
- In Finnish Wikipedia the claim is inserted by IP 84.230.84.69 (diff).-- Sander Säde 19:57, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- Movedgood, don't get me wrong. I'm glad that you're providing information about Finnish mythology to English-speaking users, but I think you should tailor the message to the audience. In other words, I don't think it's a good idea to translate all of the information about Finnish mythology and put it into http://en.wikipedia.org . It's more appropriate to have only one page in http://en.wikipedia.org that covers Finnish mythology, and only the most important aspects of it would be covered there. Think of it this way: all of the information about Finnish mythology would probably fill an entire library shelf. Ninety-nine percent of that information would be useless to English-speaking persons, so rather than to translate all these articles and dump them onto http://en.wikipedia.org , I would instead consolidate the most important information into a single article and put that onto the English wikipedia. Do you see where I'm coming from? I value your contribution, but I think it needs to be shaped (and perhaps shrunken) for the benefit of the readers.-- Mumia-w-18 22:03, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- For Sander Säde: I thought the reference to the Estonian mythology has been written on the basis of a reliable source, but fast seuarching for with search engines doesn't give information about the Estonian equivalent of Vipunen. I will look for more in a library. I delet the reference from article due to its questionable thruthfulness. --Movedgood 20:35, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you - but please do reinsert it if you find a source about it. It is quite interesting idea, actually. -- Sander Säde 20:39, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:B. Virtanen.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:B. Virtanen.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Do not simply remove fairuse rationale warnings

- I've added them back to Image:Skattejakten.jpg, Image:Emmet Hawksworth.jpg, Image:Isfolket.jpg and Image:B. Virtanen.jpg. You have plenty more that need rationales as well. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:26, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Removing the tags without fixing the problem won't make the problem go away. If an image has been tagged, then contact the person who tagged it and ask what you need to do.

A tag has been placed on Avotakka requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Papa November (talk) 10:59, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Please read the guidelines in my message above. It is not enough just to say "it is notable". You must say why it is notable. Your article did not do this, and therefore it may be deleted on sight. Please feel free to recreate the article if you can express its notability. Also, please be civil - I'm just following guidelines to improve the encyclopaedia. Papa November (talk) 11:21, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Elinataalasmaa.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Elinataalasmaa.jpg.
Julia Theresa Russell
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Julia Theresa Russell, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}}
to the top of Julia Theresa Russell. Oo7565 (talk) 07:22, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Realmlightgate.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Realmlightgate.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Image:Isfolket.jpg
[edit]I have tagged Image:Isfolket.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. MECU≈talk 16:27, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Yksisarvinen.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Yksisarvinen.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:06, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Aaro Vaalanne
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Aaro Vaalanne, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Notability of Caroline Harris
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Caroline Harris, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Caroline Harris seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Caroline Harris, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself.
