Orphaned non-free image (Image:Neworleanshornetslogo.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Neworleanshornetslogo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. fuzzy510 04:51, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Hanszen College Crest.png}
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Hanszen College Crest.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. You previously commented on a dispute at List of Rice University residential colleges but the issue at the heart of that dispute appears to be more widespread. A RFC has been submitted on the best way to deal with the existence of many Wikipedia articles on residence halls and dormitories at colleges and universities that may not be notable. Your input and feedback would be appreciated at the RFC. Madcoverboy (talk) 17:40, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Residential college article assistance

Your recent edits
[edit]Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. File source problem with File:Martel.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Martel missile on display at RAF Museum Cosford.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:18, 30 March 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — neuro(talk)(review) 02:18, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Rice Residential College Infobox Template
[edit]I created a standard infobox template that can replace the html code on each article - please see Weiss. I used the basic data fields that were used on most articles (although some had more), but I can add or remove as needed. Please let me know if you need revisions. Thanks, Postoak (talk) 07:30, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- You're more than welcome! I will add the "Resident Associates" to the template tomorrow... gotta get to bed. The articles are looking good - they needed some attention and I'm glad to see they are now getting it. Have a good night, Postoak (talk) 07:49, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- Residential Associates added to infobox. Postoak (talk) 00:08, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, it is slowing down a bit. Sorry, add this to the template on each article under the masters line (see Wiess) -> residential_associates = ? |

College articles
[edit]The problem is that all this information is completely unsourced and most of it is trivia. Of the sections I removed, there are a couple of pieces (Student Taught Courses, Tabletop Theater) that might possibly be expanded with a bit of sourcing, and a few others could be mentioned in a singble line, but the rest isn't really suitable for an encyclopedia - "Traditions" sections traditionally turn into a list of random leisure activities, just as these have. And there's a futher point - when you've got articles that may only be marginally notable themselves (and are being proposed for merger), they need to be solidly encyclopedic, sourced and tightly written; having them full of unsourced trivia isn't going to help them at all.
As for sock/meatpuppets, I'd point out Special:Contributions/Sergio1337, an account clearly recruited by the Facebook campaign, which appeared and immediately restored all the unencyclopedic material. Black Kite 08:27, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, these articles are starting to look a lot better now. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Black Kite 19:41, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Navboxes
[edit]Yikes, I added the residential colleges to the main "Rice University" navbox. Please see Wiess. We now have two navboxes with duplicate information. Do you want to remove the colleges from the main navbox? Postoak (talk) 19:49, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I opened a discussion at Talk:Wiess College so we can reach consensus on the navboxes. I can remove the other box, but would prefer that everyone is in agreement. Thanks, Postoak (talk) 20:47, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Consensus test on university topics
[edit]You previously commented on the RFC on the notability of residences at colleges and universities. A consensus test has been posted to evaluate what, if any consensus, has been reached on the issue. Please go and comment at: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities#Consensus test. Disambiguation link notification for April 20
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Felix Sabates, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Charlotte Hornets (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:Jonescrest.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Jonescrest.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 09:31, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
