Is this place really notable? Bearian (talk) 20:28, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have added it to Wikipedia since the majority of other RoadChef services stations are included in Wikipedia. I feel that if the others are included then Hamilton services must also be included for the sake of completeness. Nau03144 (talk) 20:36, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. To find out how to make useful contributions, take a look at the welcome page. To stay in Wikipedia, an article has to be about something notable, that is, of general interest. Click on Notability for an explanation of what that means, and on Notability (people) for more detail. Also, it must give independently verifiable sources. Articles that don't meet these requirements are likely to be deleted. Follow the links below to learn more:

Proposed deletion of Kinross services[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Kinross services, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. I have decided I can't be bothered to take this to AfD. There isn't any satisfactory way of removing a whole category of articles - bulk AfDs tend to lose because of objections that "you can't delete all these, one of them might be notable, you have to take them one at a time". There is a long-running war between "inclusionists" and "deletionists" and, as regards places, I think the inclusionists are winning and "Wikipedia is not a guidebook or directory" is more or less a dead letter. So, as far as I am concerned, you can go ahead with British motorway service areas (but I'm not Authority, and that's not to say that someone else may not challenge them - I notice above that someone else has expressed doubts). One suggestion - unless you are undertaking a commitment to maintain these articles over the years, perhaps they should say something like "As at 2008, the area comprises... "

Regarding Welcome Break, I have no particular expertise on article creation, but I'll have a look at it and reply in a day or two. I have some affection for Welcome Break since realising years ago that service areas were moving up market when I found at Membury (a) in the restaurant, a choice of plain or garlic croutons with the soup, and (b) in the bookshop's bargain bin, a LISP interpreter in ROM for a BBC Electron microcomputer!

Looks good to me, but as I said I am not experienced in article creation and development. Places you could look for ideas are Article development; the Good article and Featured article systems, which have checklists at WP:GACR and WP:FACR and where you will find debates going on about whether particular articles meet the standards; and the Manual of style.
