User talk:No essential nature
Welcome!
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia, No essential nature! I am FisherQueen and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome! Help
[edit]Am I meant to put the {{help me}} on this page, rather than my user page..?
- Yes, it is supposed to go on your talk page (this page). However, there is little harm done by placing it on your user page, except that you won't get the orange bar across your screen indicating that you have a response and you may want to use your user page for other matters, while this page can (and generally should) remain as a record of visible past discussions, either here or in talk page archives.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:43, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
What I actually wanted help with
[edit]Have been trying to update the Ghoul page to include information about the actual origins of the word - that is, to explain in folklore terms the phenomenon of 'Singing' sand. Yet despite adding an amendment in twice, it doesn't even seem to show up on the edit list..
Also I am not exactly clear on what are valid references. Am i going to have to find a prestigious journal that exactly says the folklore refers to this physics phenomenon? It seems unlikely I would be able to find such, due to the differing eras and subjects of concern, of these different modes of explanation..
All advice much appreciated!
I also don't think I have the book reference quite right on the Subitism entry I amended..
- Your edits to ghoul were done correctly, but another editor reverted them the next day. I recommend you start a new discussion on ghoul's talk page to clarify why you feel the information should remain. Another option would be to contact Skysmith through his talk page.
- Please read WP:SOURCE for information on proper sources. Note they should be veribiable and reliable.
- And see WP:FOOT for proper syntax in using footnotes. I think the only thing you're missing is a <references /> to display the information in your <ref> tags. Hoof Hearted (talk) 16:21, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thankyou. I have contacted user Skysmith on his talk page.
References
[edit]Sorry, but could someone explain to me how I do the ISBN link on my references? I can't seem to work out how its done. Mine are the last two in this list: Manjushri: References..
Thankyou!
{{help me}}
Also what do the red and green numbers by my watchlist entries mean? how do I stop mine being red and make them go nice and green like evryone elses? I've been trying to be polite factual and well referenced..
- You can't change this text. The red text means that text has been removed, the green text is text that has been added. Any more help needed? Click the talk to me next to my name. Dustitalk to me 19:14, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- Use {{cite book}} for ISBN citations. The template page has nice, in-depth directions. Someone has already fixed your edits on Manjushri. Hoof Hearted (talk) 13:25, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
You can also just enter the number ISBN 0-903044-03-x Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: invalid character to create a simple ISBN link. Rich Farmbrough, 15:52, 20 April 2010 (UTC).
Armilliary - redirection
[edit]I wanted to put a link from Armilliary to Armillary sphere as well - because though not as widely used its a perfectly valid spelling I think. See [1]. But I can't work out how to add it, because the top part of the page with the title and bracketed part where it says 'redirected from' doesn't show up when I edited the page. I would be very appreciative if someone could show me how to do this.

- Done. Armilliary now redirects to Armillary sphere. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 18:18, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hi! For future reference, you can create a redirect by clicking the button on the toolbar, then editing the link. That will automatically redirect people to the target page. :-) Stwalkerster [ talk ] 18:20, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks chaps! Excellent what what. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.88.243.165 (talk) 21:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Right, so tried to impliment this, but am struggling. When i search for Wish-fulfilling Jewel nothing relevant comes up - but I found Cintamani, which is the same thing. So do I need to create a page for the former, then click the redirect button on it and link to the latter? If so, I am baffled about how to do this (despite looking on the Redirect and Start a Ne Page help topics); and if not, well, I am more baffled than I realised. Help appreciated! No essential nature (talk) 18:47, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you want to make Wish-fulfilling Jewel a redirect to Cintamani, just click on the red link that says Wish-fullfilling Jewel, and type in the following (without the "nowiki" stuff): #REDIRECT [[Cintamani]]. That's how you make a redirect. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 18:52, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
List of articles by a given user?
[edit]I would like to have a look for other articles by a given user, based on finding what I have read of the articles they edited being interesting. Is there a way I can do find a list of the articles another user has edited, in the same way I can see a list of My Contributions? {{help me}}
- if look at a persons contributions page, at the bottom there is a box with a few useful links, one of which is a link to find articles they've created, for example this is yours--Jac16888Talk 14:15, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Kenworthy Wood orchard, Northenden
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Kenworthy Wood orchard, Northenden requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Kudpung (talk) 11:39, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
