Hey Paul Vaurie, you recently rejected the above draft stating it lacks any references. But, it is a template which will be used as a points table in 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup article, in case it still requires any source I have added few citations in my new submission. I would be grateful if you could review it, thanks. Cric editor (talk) 7:10, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

@Cric editor: Hello... I've never seen such articles exist. I went on the 2022 aricle and there didn't appear to be sub-articles for each group. There's no precedence to this in ICC Men's T20 World Cup articles, and I know nothing about cricket, so I rather leave the review for another editor. I just rejected because I saw "no citations", which is unacceptable (in the most literal sense). Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:26, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
@Cric editor: I'm so sorry. It's a template. Let me review it again. Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:28, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
My bad. For some reason, I thought it was an article fork. I've accepted it. Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:31, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks bud Cric editor (talk) 03:08, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
@Cric editor: I'm not offended, but just so you know, most people see "bud" and "buddy" as condescending from people they don't know well. Paul Vaurie (talk) 03:30, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
Ohh! I wasn't aware of it, I'm sorry if it seemed that way Cric editor (talk) 03:35, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

An automated process has detectedthat when you recently edited Ibrahima, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ibrahima Fofana.

Cleanup for article

Dear Paul, thanks for noticing that my draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Mestre_Sapo needs cleanup, please could you be more specific? Cheers, Daniele DanieleGamba1995 (talk) 11:39, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

@DanieleGamba1995: Sure! Firstly, the citations go after the periods. Next, you might want an WP:Infobox (most biographies have them). I saw that you also did some editing since I reviewed it so those are all my suggestions for now. I'm not sure if your submission will get accepted but now it has a better chance of, for sure. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:58, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
Dear Paul, thanks a lot, I just implemented your good advice, let me know if any other. What are possible issues that might cause my submission to be declined? DanieleGamba1995 (talk) 10:46, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
@DanieleGamba1995: Yes, you need to make sure demonyms like "Brazilian" are capitalized, and you might want to create sections. Also use proper date format for Brazil. Take a look at some other Wikipedia articles and try to see what they do.
However, the reason I think the article will be declined is because you need to follow WP:NPOV. Words like "important", "major", "great", etc need to be supported by sources. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:47, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
And even if supported by sources, it needs to have an encyclopedic tone, not a positively-skewed tone towards the person. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:49, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, you're very right. I think I have fixed this issue by rewriting the article in a formal tone, avoiding any kind of praise and sticking just to objective, verifiable historical facts. Do you think that in this way the Draft can become acceptable? In the next days I'll continue working on the minor issues. DanieleGamba1995 (talk) 17:47, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
@DanieleGamba1995: Now of course, the question of the subject's notability is important. I just gave you tips on the content of the article. I'm not sure about the notability. That's the next reviewer's job to decide. Good luck with your article! Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:45, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
thanks! DanieleGamba1995 (talk) 09:41, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Articles

Such a shame you decided to move from a numbered/ordered list to a bulleted/alphabetic list for your article creations page, especially the Football Clubs. I used to use that to spot any new creations you had made to include in future articles. Guess I'll just need to monitor diffs for the page now. Keep producing the content! Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 14:05, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

@Gricehead: Haha! I didn't know about this. Sorry! I just thought that the formatting and everything was taking too much space, so I wanted to reduce the size of the page. I also didn't think the dates of creation was important to me anymore. Hopefully monitoring the page diffs will still allow you to make inclusions in articles! Your GA nomination of Clément Chantôme

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Clément Chantôme you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Sammi Brie -- Sammi Brie (talk) 18:42, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

@Sammi Brie: Hello. I'll get onto making the changes as soon as possible. Might be a few days. Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:04, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, @Paul Vaurie. The priority has to be the missing cites for end-of-season stats. Also, the C'Chartres section needs bringing up to date. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 19:14, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
@Sammi Brie: Just FYI, in the review you keep referring to "my" writing, and "my" work. However I didn't write the article. I made some contributions to it but that's it. Almost all of the prose and citations is someone else's. Paul Vaurie (talk) 21:43, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
If anyone had noticed that, @Paul Vaurie, the nomination likely would have merited removal as a drive-by nomination. 3.6% authorship is probably not enough to lead a GAN. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 22:45, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
I mean, just because someone hasn't written most of an article doesn't mean they can't fix all the issues in an article. Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:51, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Of course not. However, WP:GAI states, Nominators must have contributed significantly to the article and be familiar with its subject and cited sources. Reviewers have the discretion to remove any drive-by nominations they come across. (original bolding). Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 23:21, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Paul Vaurie,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Maria Branyas Morera

Regarding your original undo https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Maria_Branyas&oldid=1241309900, your statement 'Catalonia is not a country' is vague. For instance, the article about Sean Connery says he was a Scottish actor, which following your reasoning it must be wrong, it should say 'English actor'.

Maria Branyas Morera was a Catalan woman, with both (first and second) surnames being Catalan. Mikaku (talk) 14:45, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

@Mikaku: Sorry, but you're even wrong on the example you gave. "Scottish" and "English" are not even the same thing. I think you meant "British"— citizens of the United Kingdom are called British, not English. In the case of the UK, that is a separate, individual case that is not worth making parallels to as none of the conventions there apply here. Spanish citizens aren't variously described as "Asturian", "Galician", "Valencian", "Basque", etc. Catalan is akin to all of those, since Catalonia holds the same status as all of those-- an autonomous community of Spain. Please stop the nonsense. Rafael Nadal, for example, isn't described as a "Balearic" tennis player, nor is Carlos Fabra Carreras a "Valencian" politician. The way to describe Spanish citizens is "Spanish", not their individual regions. Just because Catalans hav e a stronger regional identity doesn't mean she shouldn't be described as Spanish. Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:59, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Also, you're arguing that because she was Catalan, and that her names were Catalan, she has to be described as Catalan. This is wrong, see WP:ETHNICITY. We don't describe French people of Breton ethnicity as Breton in the opening sentence. We don't describe Italian of Sicilian ethnicity as Sicilian in the opening sentence. We use French and Italian, respectively. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:01, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Calling Scottish to Sean Connery is exactly the same as calling Catalan to Maria Branyas, since either have a Scottish nor Catalan passport respectively (as you said). Following your reasoning you must change the Sean Connery article substituting 'Scottish' by 'British'. Mikaku (talk) 15:05, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Stop making false equivalencies, please. There are many differences in the political and cultural contexts. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:06, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
What are these differences in the political and culture status please? Mikaku (talk) 15:11, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
They are: not relevant to the situation here. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:12, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
What? they are irrelevant. You are negating the existence of the Catalan nationality but accepts the existence of the Scottish nationality. Mikaku (talk) 15:15, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
And you are refusing to make a coherent argument and prefer to use whataboutism and false equivalencies. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:22, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
I already told you that Wikipedia accepts Catalans as a nationality. See the article about Catalans: "The current official category of "Catalans" is that of the citizens of Catalonia, a nationality and autonomous community in Spain and ..."
Maria Branyas Morera was a citizen of Catalonia, hence she was a Catalan woman. Mikaku (talk) 15:26, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
No, she was a citizen of Spain. You're refusing to confront the facts. What kind of passport did she have again? Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:27, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
The demonym "Catalan" can also be literally applied to North Catalonia, which is not part of "Catalonia" as defined legally... according to the same sentence you cited. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:30, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Then if the passport means all for you, again, what kind of passport did Sean Connery have? Mikaku (talk) 15:30, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Grow up. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:31, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Do whatever you want, but don't let your proven hate to Catalans show you as an ignorant. Mikaku (talk) 15:32, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Nice job, you've made a false assumption that I hate Catalans. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:32, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Sure. Mikaku (talk) 15:34, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
