Blacklisted web site[edit]

I had to erase your blacklisted spamlink from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Blu-ray_Disc in order to make the page actually usable. You had previously added a link to some page on emedialive which is totally B& from wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaphraud (talkcontribs) 16:13, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was not aware of this Wikimedia Spam Blacklist or of emedialive's status as a spammer. Pugetbill (talk) 18:32, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image question[edit]

Why did you replace Image:Tonin'.jpg with Image:Tonin ManhattanTransfer.jpg - it's not a cropped or altered image from the one that was on the page? In fact, it's the same size (pixel &KB). If there's a different /cropped one that you wanted to put up, this wasn't it. SkierRMH (talk) 16:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed a few weeks ago that most of the Manhattan Transfer album covers in wikipedia articles were uncropped versions taken from (presumably) Amazon.com - this left large white borders around the edges when displayed in wikipedia infoboxes. I uploaded cropped versions of these album covers for several of the albums and this improved (I think) the display of the images in the infoboxes. Only one image gave me trouble. The Image:Tonin'.jpg page showed the full size (303 x 301) / properly cropped image of the album cover (that I updated a week or so ago), but the infobox for the article Tonin' still displayed the original (uncropped) image. I thought it would "fix itself" eventually but a week later it was still displaying the uncropped image in the infobox (despite the fact that when you clicked through to the Image:Tonin'.jpg page - it showed the cropped image correctly). I suspected that the apostrophe in the image filename might somehow be causing some problem so I re-uploaded the cropped image under a new name Image:Tonin_ManhattanTransfer.jpg and changed the image filename in the infobox accordingly. This seems to have worked as the infobox now displays the cover properly. If you like, you can revert the infobox to reference the original image Image:Tonin'.jpg and see if that displays properly now. I know it was not displaying the correct (cropped) image before. I have uploaded re-cropped images for several other album covers in the past but never saw this strange behavior before.Pugetbill (talk) 17:06, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sumie WithObi ToshikoAkiyoshiQuartet.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sumie WithObi ToshikoAkiyoshiQuartet.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Image copyright problem with File:GeniusPlusSoulEqualsJazz RayCharles.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:GeniusPlusSoulEqualsJazz RayCharles.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Orphaned non-free image (File:MosaicSelect33 ToshikoAkiyoshiLewTabackinBigBand.jpg)[edit]

You've uploaded File:MosaicSelect33 ToshikoAkiyoshiLewTabackinBigBand.jpg, and indicated that it's used under Wikipedia's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Swingle Singers discography[edit]

Thank you for the great job on the Swingle Singers discography!

In the interest of making this as accurate as possible:

Are we sure that Place Vendôme was released in 1966? It was reviewed in the March 11, 1967 (p.47) Billboard Magazine, which usually does the review just after the album is released. I believe it was released in '67 and nominated for the 1967 Best Performance by a Chorus Grammy. (Johnny Mann Singers - Up, Up and Away won it that year.)

Very good points. No, I am definitely not sure of the release year for this album - see my comments at Talk:Place Vendôme (Swingle Singers with MJQ album)

Are you creating this The Astaire Story in your sandbox? Gareth E Kegg (talk) 17:23, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No but... (see my response on your discussion page). I ended up adding some new "release info" to the article. Hope I've not made the article too "cluttered." Pugetbill (talk) 03:25, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sweet...The article looks great now! We are lucky to have so many reissues in recent years. BTW, I've always believed Mr Top Hatwas an EP from the 50's, but have struggled to find information on't. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 23:57, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oops - Thanks. I should have checked those release dates more carefully. Yes, it appears Mr. Top Hat was released at least as early as 1957 and possibly earlier. I removed those dates from the article for now (not so critical anyway) and will add them back if I get reliable source info. Pugetbill (talk) 07:08, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:TheAstaireStory4.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:TheAstaireStory4.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Fair use rationale for File:AmazingToshikoAkiyoshi.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:AmazingToshikoAkiyoshi.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Buddy Rich and Category:Anthem Records artists[edit]

Thanks for your post. I'm afraid it was completely my mistake. The user that created the Anthem Records discography created the link to display Buddy Rich Big Band. With that said, can you create a separate articles? It looks like a big job. There are a few bands with "Buddy Rich..." Buddy Rich Band, Buddy Rich Big Band, Buddy Rich [1]. I found one that is listed at Anthem [2]. I'll remove the Category:Anthem Records artists from the article.

On a side note, I'm trying to save Category:Anthem Records from deletion. If you go to Anthem Records it is now categorised as such. Following the Category:Anthem Records link, you can see that there is a cat for artists, albums, eps, live albums, etc. I don't know about you, but I would find that useful. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 19:39, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
