To Redux for 3000 edits!

Woohoo! Congratulations on your milestone! :D And, um, thanks for the cigar! (Is it flavored?) Sango123 15:08, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

hahaha... congratulations on your milestone. I ended up mushing the cigar and chewing the tobacco. I really need help. --Deathphoenix 15:42, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need help; that was brilliant! I'm trying it with my artificially-flavored strawberry cigar. ;) Sango123 15:49, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Pics[edit]

Hey, thanks! :) There's always Wikipedia:List of images/Food and drink. When I run out of choices there, I search for articles on random food items that come to mind, like cake, chocolate, hot chocolate, etc., for images. The possibilities are endless! Sango123 02:43, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

RfA[edit]

To give you a heads up, you will at least have on object vote on it. It will come from a user named Boothy443, and he will usually never explain why. I suggest you just let him vote, don't mess with it and also do not ask him why, since he will either not respond or give you some answer you cannot answer or fix. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 02:51, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Um, I think Boothy has given a reason once: "BECAUSE ADMINS ARE LIARS AND CHEATERS! THEY ARE EVIL AND EAT PUPPIES FOR DINNER!" or something close to that. Don't worry about his vote; he's only supported 2 RfA's (and still without reason). Good luck, Sango123 02:54, July 22, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm on to Boothy's routine. When (s)he opposes, I won't even ask for a reason, just acknowledge the fact. If that vote decided anything, God Himself would not be able to get Adminship. ;). Thanks, Redux 03:00, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, since it happens, I just think the people running it nod. You have five votes for support, so I will not think that will be an issue, now. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 03:02, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. In fact, I remember someone's post saying that Bureaucrats don't even pay any attention to that opposition vote anymore. Maybe one day Boothy will just get tired and either move on or start contributing positively. Redux 03:17, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
A quote from b-crat Cecropia: "No one's vote is discounted out of hand, including Boothy443's. In the event that such a vote might make a difference in promotion or removal, his vote as well as all the other votes are considered on the basis of their content." Sango123 17:46, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

Good to know. Thanks for the info. I guess people don't pay much attention to Boothy's vote because promotion to adminship requires consensus, which is set at approximatelly 75-80 percent of the total votes. It would be extremely unfortunate for anyone to have it come down to Boothy's vote. I suppose this would be extremely rare, if not unprecedented, for any serious candidate. But it's always good to know where one stands. Thanks Sango! Redux 18:20, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maria Olivia da Silva[edit]

The documentation for her that exists is all far too recent and fragmentary for her to be counted as a validated case.Investigation is continuing, but so far the only recognition she has is from RankBrasil, which has a track record of claiming people they've found are older than anyone in the world and then never coming up with the evidence necessary to validate it.--Louis Epstein/le@put.com/12.144.5.2 15:54, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I too found that RankBrasil blew it. They made out the case as a certainty, when actually there's still much discussion about the issue going on. If anything of relevance surfaces in the Brazilian press, I'll post it in the talk page (or the article, depending on the relevance). At your disposal, Redux 16:59, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Brazil interests[edit]

First off, congrats on the adminship! As for Brazil, I've never been there, but Latin America in general interests me, so I'm sure that I'll love it when I do finally get to go. A friend of mine from college is Brazilian and her influence has piqued my interest. And movies like Central Station and Cidade de Deus are also great. Plus, I'm now reading a book on Brazilian culture and am finding that in many ways it's similar to Mexican culture, which I find fascinating. I'm keeping track of the names of people and places mentioned in that book, and will probably start looking for articles on those people. I'm also interested in helping with any translation projects from the portuguese wikipedia, though my reading ability of the language is mostly limited to portuguese's similarity with Spanish. But I'm working on that =). So let me know if I can help out, and I'll let you know once I create a list of articles mentioned in that book that I think we need. --Spangineer (háblame) 19:20, July 29, 2005 (UTC)

flag template[edit]

Here's my reasoning. {{CHN}} gives you  China which is all well an good, if want it to say "China" but if you need a template for the olympics, which considers China's official name to be "China, People's Republic of" then, the template {{PRC}} is for that. It gives us  People's Republic of China. Now, what browser are you using? With firefox, my user page seems fine. -- Earl Andrew - talk 01:51, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

regarding images copyright[edit]

Hi Redux I had a question about images. I would like to use only a part of this image [1], by just taking the right part of a picture for example (I'd like to use it on my user page). This image is copyrighted. So if I take a part from a copyrighted image and thus create a "new" one so to speak, what would the status be? Does the original creator still have the copyright on this new image that I cut out? Do I use the same information about the status as the original picture? Or what do I put in?

Another question, I was thinking about using an image from the Library of Congress studies for an article. That picture was taken in 1955, however it is in the public domain as far as I know (it is a famous photograph of a state-signing ceremony, found in many history books and sites). What copyright information format would I have to use found on the LoC country studies? thanks alot... Gryffindor 11:50, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

Obrigato Redux. I guess maybe I'll try a little recroping of the above mentionend image, put in the copyright information and where the original is taken from, etc. And if someone decides that it indeed it is not possible to be kept on WP, ok well then it can be deleted again, it was just a try. ps: and oh do you remember our favourite anon user from back then? he is accused of sockpuppetry now, you can check this out [2] and leave a comment if you want. Gryffindor 08:00, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

Mexico in WC '06[edit]

No problem. It's semi-confusing because they can't do worse than a spot in a playoff, and for that to happen they'd need to lose all three games, and have Guatemala and T&T win all three of their games... somehow I think the Mexicans are safe. Jonpin 21:50, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sportive Barnstar 2.PNG. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, so its copyright status is therefore unclear. Please add a tag to let us know its copyright status. (If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know on the image description page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Otherwise, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Thanks so much. --Secretlondon 17:31, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

and Image:Sportive Barnstar.png too. Thanks. Secretlondon 17:33, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Federer Enquiry[edit]

Hi redux, thanks for the message. Sorry about the short edited message I sent before(which may have looked like vandalism) I've only resently started using Wikipedia and was unsure about how to send messages, so I was just really testing it all out. Anyway, regarding the Federer page, I'm desperate to improve it as the intro lacks the sort of info that has recently become assiocated with Federer. I was sent a message by you talking about me talking about Federer's potential as POVS, when in fact many tennis greats and critics would agree with the words I chose. I accept that I may need to be more specific about who makes such claims, but if I can find quotes which support those claims would I be able to include the article that has been deleted? I desperatley want to complete the intro, but wait for your reply first, Thanks (arthursimms)

Thanks![edit]

Thank you for reverting my User page. This vandal has been hounding me for a while, after I got him blocked once... Owen× 13:23, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. The only reason why I didn't block him again then is because that's an AOL IP, and the latest attack had been an hour before I found it. If the attacks to your User page become constant (hopefully not), I can protect the page for you, for as long as you like, while this guy either shapes up or moves on. Just let me know. Regards, Redux 16:44, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
Right, if it wasn't a shared AOL IP I would have listed it on WP:AIV or WP:VIP. As long as he vandalizes my page only once a night, it's not too bad, especially since there's always a kind soul who'll revert it before I even see it. No need to protect my User page for now; that would prevent me from improving it myself (unless I get adminship...). Owen× 20:14, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

2005 Brazilian Grand Prix[edit]

Well just like to know formula1.com may made a mistake as Mark Webber's race time is 1h 29m 40.707s, and Montoya race time was 1h 29m 20.574s doesn't that tell you then Webber actually finished the race. It says on the official site Mark Webber finished the race 26 laps behind, if he did retire the race then he should have it listed as Retire instead of +26 laps which was the case with both BAR driver back in 2005 Australian Grand Prix (have a look for yourself on the official site. I have send an email to Formula1.com as they made mistakes in the past and I have corrected them. I also have send an email regarding this issue with M Webber. Andreasu

I also see your point which you made it clearly to follow and understand. Just wish FIA would release some official rules on their race classifications to the public as they use to do that back in the 1990's now they are getting slacker. I do have good contacts with Motor Sport Statistician and even two people at FIA who have been in contact for years since I started as Motor Sport researcher for many web sites that I am involved. But now I have limited my involvement's with web sites just to four which includes FORIX, Wikipedia, 8W FORIX and racing circuits. FORIX gets their race results also from the official timing. I am mainly high involved with the FORIX site as my job is to look for data errors and that is why I am so fuzzy with the race results on wikipedia. Andreasu 27 Sep 2005
Well I was correct formula1.com made an error. Here is their reply email ---> On 9/28/05, Formula1.com <webmaster@formula1.com> Thank you for your email. You are correct - he did finish - his status has been amended. All drivers that finish and were not classified are NC. formula1.com. See Official Formula1.com site ---> http://www.formula1.com/race/result/748/8.htmlAndreasu 16:34, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

100th Race Start for Button[edit]

Button will start his 100th race start in the 2005-China race. But according to wikipedia when doing the math by adding all Button race starts it would be his 101st race start in China as Button has been listed as Ret instead of DNS for this year 2005-USA race. Does this make sense to you. That means wikipedia will have for all the drivers who have no started in the 2005 USA have an extra race start which wouldn't be official to the drivers stats.Andreasu 03 October 2005 12:02

Thanks for your quick response and you seem to understand the DNS rules. A DNS occurs if a driver does not take the actual race start when the lights go green, which was the case with all Michelin runner for the 2005 USA race. As you already know that I had to correct the formula1.com race results by spotting out erros which I have no given up as they are not that official as people think they are. If you don't mind reading the DNS talk on 2005 United States Grand Prix you will see I am having a full discussion regarding the issue with DNS. I have been researched the DNS situation for the past six years and have good contacts with people who have been F1 historian for decades who have told me the 2005 USA GP had only six race startes and Michelin runner did not start as they pulled out before the green light. They also have mention that the formula1.com web site is not that accured with their race classifications. Andreasu 03 October 2005 12:49
You are also right what the media have said about the michelin runners, but I wouldn't never follow the media's words as they are mostyly incorrect on F1 Stats. Unfourtantly the formula1.com has no written what a DNS is and how it occures. But I have been working on forix.com, autosport.com, 8W FORIX and racingcircuits.net.au web pages as my job is to look for incorrect data and pretty soon all those web pages will have 100% data error free. Especially autosport.com has known F1 historian also agree to list Michlin runners as DNS they told what ever we do do not follow the race results on formula1.com as I keep saying they are not as correct as people think. I follow forix.com race results and I really would love to be the person to post the race results after each race. Also, what I will do is wait until the season is over and see what happens with all the drivers race starts on wikipedia and if Button end up having 100 race starts then I don't see a problem changing all the michlin runners to DNS for the US race. PS: You have a good break as i will be on Army training from 17 Oct to 2 Dec for seven weeks in NSW, Australia.Andreasu 03 October 2005 13:33

150th race start for JV?[edit]

You will read this when you return from your leave, but I hope have it all sorted with guys at wikipedia by then. Here is another good sample --> Jacques Villeneuve is to make is his 150th race start in the 2005 Japan race if he takes the race start, but now according to wikipedia Villeneuve did start the 2005 USA race so that makes Villeneuve has already started his 150th race in the last grand prix at the Brazilian Grand Prix which is incorrect. As Villeneuve did not take part in the race start for the 2005 USA race. Andreasu 04 October 2005, 13:40.
