[edit]Hiya - just thought I'd let you know I've re-added the wikify tag to this article - it is wikified for the first 1/4 or the article, but from 1981 onwards (currently - I may have made more progress by the time you read this!) it still needs attention! No biggie, I just thought I'd better let you know why I'd done it :) -Ladybirdintheuk 09:40, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Reply- blocked account
[edit]Thanks for the offer to appeal for unblocking my Brando03/ The Br3 account. However, given the status quo of Wikipedia, it is better for me to continue editing as an IP rather than create another account which could be blocked. I have been combating the deletionist yahoos and other mean spirited pedians who have been unfair to what I feel are legitimate edits and aren't interested in diplomacy very agressively, so I'm quit an outlaw right now and being reinstated isn't going to happen. I have still been contributing to articles anyway actively as an IP anyway, so reinstation isn't necessary. Also, I have an account where I moved my home page User:Sirrom nodnarb yerffej), I just don't edit from it with people like JDoorjam and Dumbfu Adam out there who block anyone who disagrees with them. 65.138.71.135 20:54, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- W. marsh, I think you're being taken in a bit. Sure, Brandon's edits to U of L were probably fine. What you may have been unaware of were his hateful personal attacks and comments against jews, muslims, and any editor who removed his attacks. See this attack, this comment about jews, this userpage where as "Creature of bad habits" he admits to being a sock of Brandon, or perhaps this delightful gem about how the Holocaust was "God's payback" against the Jews. Talk about "mean-spirited"...
- Face it. A bigot can be perfectly friendly and sweet on any other topic. If you never introduced them to that one topic that they can't deal with, you might never suspect they had it in them. Br3/Brandon03/Creature of bad habits is not the sort of editor we want at Wikipedia. Take care, Kasreyn 20:46, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Contribs history here is also instructive. Do you really want this sort of user back, W. marsh? Kasreyn 20:48, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, for the record I had no intention of letting that kind of crap continue. He really did make a lot of good, factual edits on Kentucky articles... my hope was that he could keep doing that and just cut the other stuff. But since he doesn't seem interested... it's really a moot point and he'll have to be treated as a community banned user. --W.marsh 21:02, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Links other articles to this
[edit]Hi! I hope you can help me. I am not sure how to do this.. Since our article is not approved yet.. how do I link other articles to this one.. Go into, lets say Bhakti Yoga.. hit edit for "See Also".. "internal link".. Click on internal link.. and put this in ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanc...es_%28AYP%29
or just typing *Advanced Yoga Practices (AYP) will do the job? Also, the Category: Orphaned articles from July 2006 .. what does that mean? Thank you in advance for all your help.
- The category and the tag both just mean that links to Advanced Yoga Practices (AYP) need to be created from other articles. You're on the right track, just add [[Advanced Yoga Practices (AYP)]] to other articles and that will do the trick. But make sure the other articles are related and relevent, of course. --W.marsh 15:44, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Need Help Please!!!
[edit]Hi, Need some help again. I posted in the article talk page and in my talk page. I am not sure how this goes, so I am going to send you this mesg too. 2 things.. One.. should I post megs on my talk page or the article talk page for them to get picked up?
Second.. The mesg reads..
"To meet Wikipedia's quality standards and conform with our NPOV policy, this article or section may require cleanup. The current version of the article or section reads like an advertisement."
Not sure what I should do to clean up.. I have read the NPOV policy.. but I am not sure what part I could change so this article does not read like an advertisement. Could you guide me to the points that can be neutralized so it looks less like an advertisement and more like a Wikipedia article.
Thanks for your help

Thanks for all the good work you're doing in Louisville-related articles.
I'm writing to request help, as somebody who posted to the subject blog has indicated that he intends to cause mischief in the article. Can the subject article be put on some special administrative watch for a period of time?
Thanks in advance for your assistance and continued good works.

Hi. You listed an article at Wyandotte Caves as a copyvio. I have written a replacement, and while the replacement is not as finished as I'd like it to be, I think it would be a good idea to move it into the main namespace so that the pre-existing Wyandotte Cave article, which I did not realize existed prior to writing the replacement for Wyandotte Caves (and which was mainly taken from the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica), can be made into a re-direct. I have merged all information from that one into the new one, and am farily certian that the article should have an s at the end. See the relevant discussion at Talk:Wyandotte Cave. I was told I should contact you about moving the temp article into the main namespace. ONUnicorn 19:29, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- okay, I have removed the copyvio, moved the new article to Wyandotte Caves and merged the history of Wyandotte Cave to Wyandotte Caves (this was necessary since you used that article, we need to preserve contributer histories per the GFDL). I also deleted the temp page, but left its talk page up in case you need it. Let me know if I can do anything else. Thanks. --W.marsh 19:39, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Agropolis: copyright violation?
[edit]Thanks for taking on my first try at Wikipedia. I am the owner of the copyright that you suspect is a violation.
I don't know how that effects the rules against publishing original research....this writeup also appears in a book that I co-authored with my wife on the food museums of France.
We have noticed that the subject of food heritage and food-themed museums has not yet been covered by Wikipedia contributors. This is an emerging field of which we are pioneer promoters.
How does an emerging subject get covered....since it is emerging and not well covered, how do those who know about it, like ourselves avoid the Wikipedia rules and still get recognition for worthy subjects such as Agropolis?
Thanks for your time and attention. This world of Wikipedia is amazing....and bewildering to a newbie like me...but I might persevere on behalf of subjects I care about, in the spirit of spreading knowledge, and being a tiny part of this collaborative work of genius.

All Info About.com
[edit]I just reinstated the article on allinfoabout.com which you had redirected to the page on About.com. The two networks are completely different with no connection between them at all. They operate differently, About.com pays its Guides and tries to operate to make a profit for shareholders while on Allinfoabout.com Correspondents aren't paid and have much more autonomy and can take 100% of the earnings from all the advertising except the banners at the top of the page. Although AIA is run by 2 people, it works much more like a co-operative.

Sean Casey Image
[edit]What is wrong with the following Sean Casey image?
Similar images are used for most of the MLB player pages including:
I believe the use of this image on Wikipedia is contended to be a fair use, since it is used solely for educational purposes in a not-for-profit encyclopedia, is necessary for cultural and historical purposes, and the material value of the possible copyright is not believed to be lessened by its use here.
The fair use image of Casey as a member of the Cincinnati Reds is out dated and does not show most of his face.
If I uploaded the picture wrong I apologize.-ThatsHowIRoll 22:36, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- We try to use free images whenever possible (as people mirror Wikipedia for commercial purposes, among other things), and really should only use fair use ones when there's no free alternative available. I think at the very least both images should be in the article. --W.marsh 22:38, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

- John Seigenthaler, Sr. was an orphan article that got Wikipedia a lot of bad press because basically no one had really looked at the article, until the subject of the article did. disambiguation and {{linkless}}
[edit]Hi, Marshbot recently added {{linkless}} to Department of Education and Science [3] . However as it is a disambiguation page, it is supposed to not have any links. Shouldn't Marshbot ignore disambig pages or am I missing something? Aaron McDaid (talk - contribs) 21:18, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

I'll see if I can modify the bot to fix this when it counters it... if nothing else it should ignore it from now on. Thanks. --W.marsh 21:20, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

another exception for Marshbot
[edit]Marshbot automatically adds a template to every article that has no incoming links, except for disambiguation pages. However, there is one additional article type that should be skipped. Articles that are waiting to be transwikied. If a template is added to one of these pages, it will probably just need to be removed before the article can be transwikied. Your opinion? -- kenb215 00:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it's a bit of a grey area since the transwiki tag just means there's a suggestion that it should be transwiki'd... it's not like the move is set in stone. Still though, it's probably better not to create inbound links until a resolution has been reached (since you might be creating a bunch of links that will soon go to a soft redirect or a redlink, quite possibly). I will think a bit more about this, but I will probably try to have the bot ignore pages with a transwiki tag by the next time it runs. Thanks! --W.marsh 00:08, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I re-added the information about Jason Marquis being Jewish. This isn't just random trivia, he along with Shawn Green have faced controversy over playing baseball (or in Green's case, not playing) on Jewish holy days, which I think is relavent to the WP articles. The other active jewish baseball players... the information is probably not so relevent, I agree. I'll try to add something specific about it to the Marquis article. Thanks. --W.marsh 14:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi w.marsh, thanks for adding the reference. I would probably prefer to see Green's Jewishness discussed further into the article per WP:MOSBIO but if it really is so noteworthy. It seems that sometimes ethnicity is pushed into articles per agenda driven motives. Anyways, thanks again for making the Marquis article better by sourcing it. - Hi, did I accidentally block you?! I meant to block the bot! I am so sorry! User:Zoe|(talk) 01:49, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- It was just an autoblock... despite the trauma of seeing my first "you've been blocked" message ever, it's totally understandable... the bot was going nuts. --W.marsh 01:55, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm glad everything's under control. :) User:Zoe|(talk) 02:27, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Indeed
[edit]But you're the one saying you're rejecting consensus :). Or do you deny stating that you were refusing to negotiate? It's in page history: [4]
Does this mean you're refusing to discuss the topic with me? Technically, based on that diff I should be able to have you blocked for edit-warring, hands down. ;-) <scratches head> Probably not the most diplomatic move though. :-P
In any case, as per Bold revert discuss, could you please explain the reason for your edit?
Kim Bruning 16:15, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Fine, try to get me blocked... this is really lame. Go edit some articles. I am discussing this on both talk pages anyway... so I don't see what I'm doing wrong. --W.marsh 16:19, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hehe, no, I'm not going to get you blocked, as long as you're acting in good faith. Duh :-)
- But you made an edit to the policy page where you stated you would refuse to discuss. At the same time you're now saying you're discussing.
- What I'm doing is holding you individually responsible for your actions, and from that particular viewpoint, there is a big discrepency.
- Could you please explain where this discrepency stems from? Kim Bruning 16:30, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- You're not making much sense to me. I never said I wouldn't discuss. --W.marsh 16:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
[5] "These three policies are non-negotiable". You did make that edit, right? I'm basically calling you on it. Not to start a fight mind you, but I think people do have to be prepared to explain their reasons for a particular edit.Kim Bruning 16:47, 15 August 2006 (UTC)- Belay that, I think we've reached consensus by another path already. If you're still curious what I was getting at in this thread, we can still continue talking for fun, of course. :-) Kim Bruning 16:51, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
