List of Doctor Who Christmas and New Year's specials

Sorry about that, I didn't actually realize cast had already been included, otherwise I would have definitely removed them as well. Thanks for the cleanup. -- /Alex/21 03:07, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

No worries, I figured that was the case anyway. I appreciate the message. – Rhain 22:32, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Jodie Whittaker edit

Apologies for that edit, got a bit mixed up. I thought you reinserted the rumoured departure year. Boushenheiser (talk) 23:33, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

No worries. I appreciate the message. – Rhain 00:26, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

John Marston edit

Hi,
Thank you for your revert of my edit. I understand that the method in which he was saved doesn't matter, but doesn't it matter to at least give some context as to what peril he was in? I haven't played the game, so I don't know enough to make the edit myself, but I also didn't know how to put something in there that made my exact concern clear. It just seems like it needs a slight elaboration. Packer1028 (talk) 11:46, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

@Packer1028: The peril itself is such a minor point of the game, so I don't think it's entirely necessary. However, I've added the information as I think it has the added benefit of introducing the gang's movements, as well as the ongoing threat of the Pinkertons. Thanks for bringing it up. – Rhain 23:32, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

GTA 5 Actors

Why did you reverted it? It is also written on Google, and on www.IMDB.com/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeterWiki56 (talkcontribs) 22:42, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

@PeterWiki56: IMDb is not a reliable source per WP:IMDB. Google is not a source, it's a search engine. Do not add the information without a reliable source. – Rhain 22:56, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:2021 video game awards requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

Wikiproject Video games Newsletter survey

Hello Rhain! I'm conducting a feature for the video games newsletter similar to that of a survey. I'm going to ask users their opinions on a specific matter and highlight unique and common answers to determine consensus on a subject. Your input would be very valuable, alongside others, to help answer this question.

The question is: How do you determine what makes a video game character notable enough for their own page? Do you follow pre-existing guidelines or have your own opinions on the matter?

Panini🥪 10:45, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Panini!, apologies for the late response, but I'd be happy to answer.
I think it's important to have your own opinions, but the pre-existing guidelines are there to be followed. It's easy to think that a character might be notable—they're the main star in a huge game, and it feels like everyone on Twitter and Reddit is talking about them and how great they are—but, at the end of the day, if the character isn't discussed in-depth by reliable sources, they're unlikely to be notable enough for their own article. It's important to remember that notability is not inherited; for example, people love L.A. Noire—me more than most—but that doesn't make Cole Phelps automatically notable. If you're in the frustrating stage when there's a decent amount of commentary on each character but not enough for individual articles, lists can come in handy, but it's crucial to be hypercritical of your own work here and not let the article become too plot heavy. The most important step in this process is realising the mistake; it's really tough to see your hard work go to waste, but there's often ways around it: try to incorporate the information into another relevant article if it fits, and, if all else fails, I'm sure there's a wiki that could use the information. But, most of all, don't give up: there are millions of other articles that could use your help, so don't let a failed effort put you down.
Or, you know, what everyone else has said. – Rhain 02:44, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

re3 / reVC

You're the GTA person, so I figured I ask you directly. GTA3 and GTA:VC have been reverse-engineered as re3 and reVC, which has been receiving some coverage lately (notably: [1][2][3][4]). Is this something to cover on the game's own articles, or rather Grand Theft Auto modding, or both? IceWelder [] 18:09, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

@IceWelder: Good catch; I'd noticed posts about this but I hadn't seen the media coverage yet. Both games have a Ports section where I think this probably fits best (and there's already precedence for it with III), so I've added the information to both. I can certainly see how it could be relevant at the modding article too, but I'm not sure where; I have that article watchlisted, but I haven't really done any proper work on it. – Rhain 23:38, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

BAFTA Game Awards

Pinging you as the BAFTAS for 2020 have been announced [5] and I'm filling out the nominations now 17th British Academy Games Awards, but I notice that where some entries in the nominations have specific names (like for artistic achievement, Hades called out Jen Zee) most just call out the team. While I know that for the Game Awards 2020 that we had included the names of individuals when recognized, it seems odd when only one or two nominees in a cat have specific names called out. I'm going to fill in the rest on just the dev/pub but wanted to bring to your attention. --Masem (t) 14:39, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

@Masem: Appreciate the ping, and thanks for filling out the page. I agree that, in this case, it's best to just stick to the developer and publisher. I've always found it odd how BAFTA does this; I wonder if it's their decision, or something to do with submissions from publishers. The Game Awards and D.I.C.E. definitely have a better approach, I think—list only individuals, or only studios, not both in the same category. – Rhain 01:13, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
I suspect it may be up to the dev/pub when they submit games for consideration, than an "optional" field for named contributors goes unfilled by the big studios but the smaller ones (Supergiant for example) have the time and consideration to do that. --Masem (t) 14:51, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Redirect

Hy, can I remove the redirect for Michael De Santa and creat a legit page with sources focused on the character? The character is widely popular and all other playable characters from Grand Theft Auto univere have their own character article. This character also deserves a page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaheer Don Zaheer Don (talkcontribs) 04:35, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

@Zaheer Don Zaheer Don: If you want to start working on an article, do so in draftspace or on your sandbox. However, don't be surprised if your efforts are unsuccessful; there are very few (if any) sources that discuss the character independently, and I don't believe he is notable enough for an individual article. It's also important to note that "all other playable characters ... have their own character article" is incorrect; there are 15 games in the series and five character articles. – Rhain 00:42, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain and : All the playable characters from the main GTA entries have their own articles. I understand that the fist time Michael's page was created abruptly and that is why I asked the permission. Sometimes many characters are popular but one creates his bad page on Wikipedia and his article is gone forever. Claude (Grand Theft Auto) also don't have character focused sources, but his article exists. Claude is not a popular character but someone who is new to Wikipedia thinks that just because he has his own article he is more popular than Michael. Previously Michael's article was given Trevor's sources, however there are sources on the internet that discuss the character or mention Michael in the headline. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaheer Don Zaheer Don (talkcontribs) 02:42, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
@Zaheer Don Zaheer Don: Just because some articles exist does not mean this one should; see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Claude in particular is a bad example—the article probably shouldn't exist, and I've intended to look into it at some point as well (either to try and build it out more, or merge it elsewhere). Which sources are you referring to? Keep in mind that simply mentioning Michael in the headline is not always enough. – Rhain 02:48, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain and : I'm talking about these kind of references [6] [7] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaheer Don Zaheer Don (talkcontribs) 03:09, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
@Zaheer Don Zaheer Don: Metro is considered unreliable per WP:VG/RS. The Screen Rant source isn't bad (its reliability is disputed) but it discusses very little about the character. Keep in mind that the article needs substance, including the development and portrayal of the character, as well as their critical reception; take a look here, here, and here for some examples that I've worked on. Each of these characters are discussed extensively in reliable, independent sources that not only demonstrate their notability but give the article substance. The deleted article about Michael consisted primarily of plot with very little original information, and I fail to see how that would not be the case if the article is revived. – Rhain 03:22, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain and : Not every video game character can be that extensive as aforementioned characters but I will try my best to satisfy you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaheer Don Zaheer Don (talkcontribs) 04:36, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
@Zaheer Don Zaheer Don: If they can't be "that extensive", then they shouldn't have an article. It's not our job to write an article about every video game protagonist, only the ones who are notable enough. Arthur Morgan is a good example of a character from a single game who is just notable enough for an article; if the Michael article fails to reach that standard, then it simply shouldn't exist. – Rhain 23:12, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain and : Man, I'm sorry to say that but I think you hold a grudge against Michael. You are not willing to give this character a chance. Take a look at this man 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. I'm still wondering why one of the three protagonists of one the biggest games of all time is missing his own article. He's a fleshed out character not like Claude or Red Harlow from Red Dead Revolver. If Arthur is a good example of a single game character than characters like Claude are the bad example. Trevor Philips article was given a chance to maintain and repair. His design is still only consists of the same material as "Development of GtA V" and comprises heavily of Michael and Franklin also, there are tons of sources about all three protagonists not only Trevor. I'm just saying that this character is equally important if you know the game. Trevor Phillips is not even present in many opening missions, It's only Michael and Franklin. If Trevor is a talked about character than so is Michael and if he can have an independent article than Michael should have it too. It's just that simple. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaheer Don Zaheer Don (talkcontribs) 01:34, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
@Zaheer Don Zaheer Don: I certainly don't "hold a grudge against Michael", and I ask that you assume good faith in future, just as I have done for you. I'm simply trying to ensure that any articles created for Wikipedia satisfy the core guidelines. I appreciate you providing those sources, but unfortunately most cannot be used:
  1. N4G is not a source, it's a directory; that link points to an article from Examiner.com, which is considered unreliable per WP:VG/RS.
  2. SegmentNext has not been considered at WP:VG/RS, but it's fairly unreliable. In any case, this article is about Ned Luke in Red Dead Redemption 2, not Michael.
  3. NDTV is the same as above, and the article itself is about nothing.
  4. IGN Wiki is unreliable.
  5. TheGamer's reliability is inconclusive, though the author is fairly reliable. This is a good source.
  6. As discussed above, Screen Rant is reliable enough, but the article doesn't really say anything.
  7. This is just a quote from TheGamer interview.
  8. So is this.
Of these eight sources, only one is really useful. But I'd like to respond to a few of your other points, too:
"If Arthur is a good example of a single game character than characters like Claude are the bad example."
I agree, so I've removed it.
"I'm just saying that this character is equally important if you know the game. Trevor Phillips is not even present in many opening missions"
Whether or not we think he is equally important is irrelevant. By and large, reliable sources discuss Trevor much more than they discuss Michael, and that's why he has his own article. His screen time is irrelevant, too; he could appear in one mission or one hundred, it doesn't matter unless the sources discuss him and thereby he is deemed notable.
I understand that you like the character, and I don't blame you, but Wikipedia's guidelines are in place for a reason. If you really want to prove how notable the character is, I strongly encourage you to write up the article over on your sandbox. – Rhain 02:52, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain and : Forgive me for the harsh language. You are a brilliant user, that's the reason I decided to ask your permission. I'll patiently think about whether to create this character's article or not. Thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zaheer Don Zaheer Don (talkcontribs) 14:17, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
@Zaheer Don Zaheer Don: Your language wasn't harsh, don't worry; I just think it's important to assume good faith on Wikipedia, and wanted to make that clear. I really appreciate you seeking advice about this topic in such a civil manner. I look forward to seeing more of your work on Wikipedia. – Rhain 04:21, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain and : Thank you very much, I greatly appreciate it.

Red Dead reverts

I used the two sources listed on Dan Houser's page for my edits. It seems his departure is relevant if he was the one who said they'd make more if it were successful. It wouldn't necessarily impact their decision, but it seems like it should be noted because now that he's gone, he almost certainly won't be involved in that decision. If not, though, at the very least I think the tense should be changed from "does well" to "did well," since RDR 2 has been out for over two years now. It may not be Wikipedia's place to assess or assume that success, but it doesn't seem like "does well" is still the valid tense.

Either way, I'm not going to revert, since I don't want it to appear as if I'm trying to have an edit war, which is definitely not my intent. Hence, I'm sharing my thoughts here and leaving that decision up to you. You seem to know more about both the series and relevant Wikipedia policies than I do.

Thanks. Packer1028 (talk) 00:43, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

@Packer1028: Houser's departure could have an impact on the series, sure, but the sources provided made no such comment, so adding this to the article feels like WP:SYNTH: it's implying a conclusion by combining material from several sources. It's also important to note that part of your addition to the article ("any future games will likely be made without his involvement") is entirely original research, which has no place. I agree with your comment about the tense, so I've made some changes. – Rhain 00:57, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. Also, yes, I do see how that last bit I added could be construed that way. Packer1028 (talk) 01:03, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Million Award for The Last of Us

The Million Award
For your contributions to bring The Last of Us (estimated annual readership: 1,903,840) to Featured Article status, I hereby present you the Million Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you do for Wikipedia's readers!  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 03:02, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Been combing through some VG articles and seeing which editors are eligible for the Million award its belated but you certainly meet it. Since its promotion to FA in February 2016, The Last of Us has had an average annual view count of 1,903,840 [8]. Good job keep it up (you are probably eligible for more for the other articles you have promoted like Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, etc). Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 03:02, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, Spy-cicle! It's bizarre to me that so many people have viewed the article (and therefore, most likely, my direct contributions), but I am thrilled. I appreciate the honour. – Rhain 03:08, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

It was a close call (technically there was a 1 in a 2 chance so not really) but you have chosen to be interviewed as a featured editor on the Wikiproject Video games newsletter! Do you accept? The interview will be conducted sometime in April if so. Panini🥪 03:51, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

@Panini!: Thanks for considering me; I'd love to partake! It's been almost six years since I first noticed my name brought up as a potential interviewee so this is great. Looking forward to reading the questions. – Rhain 11:01, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
Rhain, Ah, forgot to mention; do you have any specific requests for how the interview is conducted? For example, Namcokid wanted the questions to be new ("try not to ask the same questions you've asked other editors before"). Panini🥪 09:55, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
@Panini!: No specific requests from me; feel free to ask whatever you like! – Rhain 23:34, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

You're probably wondering why you haven't gotten any questions. Long story short, Thibbs is out for an indefinite time and not only will this upcoming quarter not happen, it probably won't exist at soon and might be merged. Can't give details right now, Panini!🥪 02:45, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

@Panini!: No worries, I understand the newsletter has gone through similar issues in the past. Hope you and Thibbs are both doing well and everything works out. – Rhain 05:18, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Main Titles

Hi. I want to ask what you think about Vice City and San Andreas. If they are followed by 'GTA IV', what are these games? Expansion? Spin-off? Same goes for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelations. There is no definition for these games. Galagahunt (talk) 12:37, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

@Galagahunt: Like Brotherhood and Revelations, Vice City and San Andreas are main entries. This can be seen in the table and the timeline on the series page. – Rhain 12:49, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
So what's the point of calling the next game 'GTA IV' if it's the sixth title? Galagahunt (talk) 12:52, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
@Galagahunt: That's actually discussed in the first paragraph of Grand Theft Auto IV#Development, and you can read the quote from Dan Houser in the answer to the first question here. – Rhain 13:34, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
So it's more like a technological update, I still don't understand Assassin's Creed case though. Is it the same reason here? Galagahunt (talk) 14:39, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
@Galagahunt: I don't actually follow the series so I can't say for sure, but it appears the developer didn't want to continue numbering with Brotherhood and Revelations as they were a continuation of Ezio's story, despite being main games. Honestly, I think a big part of that series comes down to platforms: if the game was first released on consoles and PC, then it's a main game (DLC not included); otherwise, it's a spin-off. – Rhain 15:04, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
If they are a continuation of Ezio's story they should be spin-offs. Anyway, Halo series also has a similar issue (Halo Reach and then Halo 4?), I guess developers use numbering as they like. Galagahunt (talk) 15:57, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
That's pretty much it. I don't think they should be considered spin-offs, but to each their own. – Rhain 00:03, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Question about recent image upload

Hi, I noticed with the recent File:Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley 2016, 1.jpg upload (thanks for uploading) there is a surprisngly high-quality non-free 2D graphic work (promotional art) owned IP of Naughty Dog/SIE, which I presume they did not release the rights to. Given how large it is in the background I do not think it would fall under De_minimis either. Is it possible to obscure it or blur it out, unless I am missing something? Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 16:45, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

@Spy-cicle: I thought about this when uploading and elected to ignore it, but I think you're right; the image is unlikely to fall under de minimis. Due to the Creative Commons licence, the image can be freely adapted, so I've made two attempts at obscuring the background: blurring it, and removing it entirely. Neither option is ideal, really, but if the only other option is to delete the image, then I'd rather choose one of these. The cropped image of Straley should be fine either way. Let me know your thoughts. – Rhain 01:05, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Either of those two options seem great thanks for the speedy response and mean we do not have to worry about the copyrighted background. Yes the cropped one of Straley seems fine given the it is only used in a small section. I'll let you choose which one blurred or removing it entirely you would like to upload, probably could just upload a new version of the file. Thanks once again.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 21:33, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
I personally prefer the second version at full size, but I think the blurred version looks better when reduced to the size of its use on Wikipedia, so I've chosen that one. Besides, it's closer to the original version. Thanks again for bringing this up. – Rhain 03:37, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Wikiproject Video games Newsletter survey

I'm conducting another survey for the Wikiproject Video games Newsletter. If you could leave your thoughts on the matter it would be greatly appreciated. Every response will be compiled into a MOS-Esque answer that balances the thoughts of our top contributors. You're one of them! The question is as follows:

What would you consider the requirements of making a video game series article? What about franchise articles?

If you would like to respond, please ping me here and write your reply. I'll handle the rest. Thanks in advance, Panini!🥪 14:56, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

@Panini!: Apologies for the late response! This is an interesting question, but one that I may not be fully qualified to answer; the only video game series/franchise article I've ever thoroughly worked on is Ni no Kuni, though I intend to work on plenty of others in due course. I'm sure many others have mentioned this already, but it's a general heuristic that a series needs three games before an article should be considered—though it's important to note that this isn't a rule. Three games in a series does not warrant an article; several reliable sources need to demonstrate the importance of the series, not just some of the games. The rules of WP:SPLIT are pretty relevant here. The same can be said for franchise articles too, with the same rules applying to different mediums. – Rhain 11:07, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

GIF image used for The Last of Us Part II

Hi. I was just wondering (unless you made it yourself) where you obtained the gameplay gif used for The Last of Us: Part II, as I'm considering using one for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. I have found a site for GIFs that have a good selection, gfycat.com, thanks to God of War's article, though I thought the GIF used for TLOU2 ran notably smoother than GOW's, and presumably came from somewhere else. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 14:29, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

@Wikibenboy94: The GIF for The Last of Us Part II was recorded directly from the game using the PlayStation 4's internal capture system, and I put it through an online GIF editor to cut down the frame rate (per WP:NFCC#3b). I believe it runs at 10 frames per second, whereas the God of War GIF was cut down to 5 fps, which is why the former is much smoother. The original God of War GIF is full 30 fps, so the smoothness of the GIFs is due to changes on Wikipedia, not Gfycat. – Rhain 23:57, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain: Thanks. I'm kinda torn on whether to use a GIF or another video format (which I now understand can either be WebM or OGG) based on the context of the video. It would show an online multiplayer match in which the player defeats enemy players and unlocks killstreaks (perks) and trophies. If the GIF was about 10 seconds long, as most I've seen on Gfycat for Remastered are, would it be better suited to WebM/OGG? If so, can GIFS be saved as another file type, or would I need to use/make another clip as WebM/OGG? I saw the video for Uncharted 4 that you uploaded, as well as that for Spider-Man, were 10+ seconds and formatted as WebM/OGG rather than GIF. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 12:31, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
@Wikibenboy94: I think an important element to consider when deciding between GIF and video is sound design. For Uncharted 4 and Marvel's Spider-Man, the sounds are a big part of the video—the 'alert' sound, NPC voices, Nate's voice, gunshots, explosion, and music in Uncharted 4, and the web sounds, city ambience, and music in Marvel's Spider-Man. Compare that to, say, Red Dead Redemption 2: Dead Eye sounds pretty cool, but adds little to the image or article, so a GIF was preferred; same goes for The Last of Us Part II, where the sound is basically non-existent due to the stealth gameplay and minimalist score. I'm not intimately familiar with Call of Duty, so I can't say for sure, but it sounds like a GIF may be the better option here unless the sounds are integral to the elements mentioned. It's also important to consider its relevancy to the text—the Uncharted 4 video covers several elements of gameplay, while the Red Dead Redemption 2 GIF covers an integral part of the game that is supported by the text. If defeating enemy players and unlocking perks and trophies is an important part of the text in Modern Warfare Remastered, then it's likely appropriate for inclusion. Hope that helps. – Rhain 00:43, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Rhain Most of the gameplay section for Modern Warfare Remastered is written to list the divergences between it and the original Call of Duty 4, providing additional clarity where necessary. About two of the sentences that mention unlocking killstreaks (apologies these are more abilities, not perks as such, which are different) and trophies can be sufficiently supported in a GIF of a multiplayer match. I did notice the GIFs for God of War and The Last of Us Part 2, which illustrate freezing an enemy using the axe and going prone respectively, only applied to a single sentence in the prose, and in particular I wouldn't say the former is exactly a huge addition to gameplay. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 12:45, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
@Wikibenboy94: It's also somewhat important to consider the context around those GIFs—both feature gameplay aspects that are new to the series and are difficult to capture using a still image (which is the preferred option if available, per WP:NFCC#3b). At the end of the day, though, the most important factor (at least to me) is whether or not the image will increase readers' understanding of the topic (WP:NFCC#8). If you believe that a GIF (or video) would "significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding", then go for it. Let me know if you need any help with the technical side of creating or uploading the GIF. – Rhain 00:14, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain: I've gone through several GIFs and narrowed them down to two choices here and here. For context, the multiplayer features three unlockable killstreaks depending on the number of players killed (in ascending order: UAV, air strike, and helicopter). The first GIF starts off from when the UAV is already unlocked and shows the player unlocking the rest, whereas in the second GIF the player unlocks all three, but only uses the third. In terms of length, the first is short and snappy, but the second is a lot longer, and depending on how much I want to be shown this will need trimming regardless (from unlocking the first killstreak to using the last it's about 30 seconds long). This example was a possible third option, which more visibly uses the air strike killstreak, but that was the only advantage I felt it had over the others. I know the decision ultimately lies with me, but if you had a preference which do you think would be best suited to the article? I've also drafted a rationale which I'm satisfied with, most of which uses the standard template. Also, yes I will need assistance please with uploading a GIF; I wouldn't really know what program to best use if one is required. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 21:55, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
@Wikibenboy94: From the perspective of someone unfamiliar with the game, I think I prefer the first GIF; it's short and snappy, and quickly demonstrates what happens during a killstreak. The second one might look better to a seasoned player, but to anyone else, it's just a long GIF of someone getting a bunch of kills; any of those unlockable perks mentioned didn't really register with me. The third GIF is good in that it shows the air strike, but since it doesn't show the aftermath or anything, it feels confusing—it doesn't really add anything that isn't possible through text. Ultimately, of course, the choice is yours, but I think the best option might be the first GIF with a caption describing the unlockable killstreaks in relation to the clip. You could also consider cutting off the last few seconds, depending on how important you consider the reload animation. I'd look into an online editor like Ezgif, which allows you to shorten the clip, reduce the resolution, and change the frame rate. – Rhain 00:50, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain: Thanks, I'll go with the first one. I was definitely going to cut the end part off where the player levels up. The only thing that I didn't know might cause an issue was that in the upper-left corner the username of a player who is speaking through the use of a mic flashes up briefly. Is it acceptable to show someone's personal information in a piece of media? Also, how can I ascertain how many frames the GIF is because Ezgif doesn't indicate this, and only mentions a multiplier number? Wikibenboy94 (talk) 18:19, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
@Wikibenboy94: Once the size is reduced, the names should be practically illegible; if not, you could always use Ezgif to lower the quality until the names are out of focus. As for frames: I think the only way to do this with Ezgif is by using the 'Video to GIF' tool, which allows you to select the GIF's frame rate. Just enter this URL into the "Paste video url" box, and the options should be there—or you could go directly through this link, though it may expire. – Rhain 10:23, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain: I've made the GIF and drafted the text for the rationale, caption, alt-text, and description, but I've never properly uploaded a brand-new image. May need some help with the File Upload Wizard steps and also the info for the licensing template please. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 17:54, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
@Wikibenboy94: Great! I noticed your sandbox; all you'll have to do with that is input the information in a template like {{Non-free use rationale 2}}. As for uploading, honestly, since you already have the rationale drafted, you could use the simplified upload form at Special:Upload, which lets you bypass the source and copyright information section, and then simply paste your drafted rationale on the image page as soon as it's uploaded. I'd recommend using the File Upload Wizard in future if you're unsure about anything, but this is straightforward enough that the simplified upload form should work. I'd be happy to take a look at it afterwards if you're worried about making any errors, though I'm sure it'll be great. – Rhain 00:37, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain: Image file has now been produced and is ready to be uploaded to the article! I wouldn't mind if you could read through the rationale anyway please. Only thing I wasn't sure about when placing the image in the article is what the following are: thumb (although this seems standard), thumbtime (length?), and upright (what should this be set to typically?). Wikibenboy94 (talk) 19:48, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Edit: Something else I've just noticed is that the comment in File history seems to contain the entire Summary, and I don't know how to clear the comment, as they remain blank in the other file examples I've seen. Also, as try as I might, everytime I trimmed the GIF on ezgif to 400 x 225, it just kept formatting it to 400 x 226. Those other file examples are all x 225. Wikibenboy94 (talk) 20:03, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

@Wikibenboy94: Looks good! The rationale is appropriate, and I think you've cut down the GIF nicely. Regarding the image parameters: |thumb is necessary, as it places the image in a border with a caption; |thumbtime= is only necessary for videos, as it allows you to select which time stamp appears as a thumbnail on the article before the reader plays the video; and |upright= could be set to 1, but I tend to go for 1.2. Your edit summary in the file history doesn't matter, as this is pretty common when making new articles (e.g.); regardless, your edit summary could be total garbage and it would have no impact on the actual file—it's the content that's important, not the other stuff. The pixel size is fine; the general rule per WP:IMAGERES is for both numbers to equal less than 100,000 when multiplied together—400 × 226 = 90,400, so you're safe. A single pixel doesn't really matter, anyway, unless it was a visible error (i.e. a dead pixel) within the image itself. – Rhain 00:33, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

@Rhain: I did play around with the upright but I'd have to make it very small to fit properly as the standard size of the image takes up more room than the number of lines in the section. An alternative is to move the Plot subheading further down so there are several blank lines between it and Gameplay, although this doesn't look neat. Any other solutions? Wikibenboy94 (talk) 06:31, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
@Wikibenboy94: There's nothing wrong with an image overlapping sections, though I always prefer for this to happen with a right-aligned image to ensure that the following header is on the left. Another option is to align the image in the centre, though this rarely looks good with an single image of this size. – Rhain 07:23, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
@Rhain: Just realised it's down to the amount of caption text that's causing the overlap, not the image size. I also found that the See also template is contributing to it as well. Should the template always be placed at the very beginning of the section before the image (because placing it after fixes the issue)? Regardless, it does seem to depend on the resolution of the monitor being used, because it doesn't overlap when viewing it at my work computer but it does on my PC. I must apologize I keep dragging this discussion out with every little query I have! Wikibenboy94 (talk) 19:32, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
(Sigh) And now I'm wondering why the Media viewer only gives the Author or copyright owner for the GIF, rather than the Description or Caption... Wikibenboy94 (talk) 22:03, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
@Wikibenboy94: No need to apologise. Hatnotes like {{See also}} should always be placed at the top of the section per WP:HNP. Images overlapping will always be dependent on monitor size; the larger the screen resolution, the more chances of overlapping. I could get the image looking perfect on my 1080p monitor, but someone with a 4K monitor will likely have overlap, a 720p monitor will have zero overlap, and a mobile screen will completely separate the image from the text. There's really nothing you can do to make it perfect for everyone. If you want to avoid any possible overlap issues with the "Plot" heading, though, I see two solutions: use {{clear}} at the end of the "Gameplay" section, but that would probably force a lot of white space on a larger monitor; or place the image on the right, though it would likely be forced down a little due to the infobox—you could try to avoid this by placing at it at the beginning of the third paragraph so it fits with the multiplayer information. The choice is yours. Regardless, it looks great! – Rhain 00:56, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
