December 2015[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the page Gianni Zuiverloon, because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:31, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Ian Atkins. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it.

Hello. I've just removed the external link you added to the Ian Atkins article, and thought I should explain why. The relevant guideline WP:External links says that we should only add an external link to sites "that contain further research that is accurate and on-topic, information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail, or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to its accuracy". The link you added to Ian Atkins contained nothing that wasn't already in the article, and in fact contained a decent amount that was copied word-for-word from the article without acknowledgment to Wikipedia. Also, in the section WP:ELNO#Links normally to be avoided, bullet point 11 says we shouldn't generally add links to "Blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority." (my highlighting)

If player profiles on that site contain any useful information that isn't already on Wikipedia, you might consider adding that content to the player's page on here, and citing a reliable published source for the information. But I would advise against adding links to that site. It's really starting to look like you're spamming. Struway2 (talk) 22:16, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

February 2016[edit]

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Jason Scotland. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you insert a spam link, as you did at Dean McDonald. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.
