Copright and other matters

[edit]
It is almost never suitable to copy content from another web site to Wikipedia, for more than one reason, the most important being copyright. When you post anything to Wikipedia you release it for anyone in the world to reuse it, either unchanged or modified in any way whatever, subject to attribution to Wikipedia. It is very rare that the owner of a web site licenses content for such very free reuse, and in those few occasions when they do so, we require proof of the fact. We don't assume that content is freely licensed on the unsubstantiated say so of just anyone who comes along and creates a Wikipedia account. The article Pre Hawiye Tribes has therefore been deleted. However, even without copyright problems, the page would not have been suitable as a Wikipedia article for several reasons, perhaps most strikingly the fact that it did not provide context for what it was about. It launched straight into information about a tribe, without telling the reader where or what the tribe is. Only by searching right down the page was I able to determine even the most basic contextual information, such as what continent the tribe is in. JBW (talk) 17:14, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ummulkheir kassim moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for creating Ummulkheir kassim. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it needs more sources to establish notability and irrelevant references. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. M.Ashraf333 (talk) 12:58, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The page Gurreh District has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appeared to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appeared to be a direct copy from http://erepository.uonbi.ac.ke/bitstream/handle/11295/105849/Sava_Negotiated%20Democracy-A%20Panacea%20For%20Perennial%20Election-Related%20Conflicts%20In%20Africa%20A%20Case%20Of%20Kenya%E2%80%99s%20Mandera%20County%20%282013%20%E2%80%93%202017%29.pdf?sequence=1, https://www.undp.org/sites/g/files/zskgke326/files/migration/ke/AP_Volume1_n2_May2010.pdf, and https://mandera.go.ke/background/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition has been be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion Review. Kindly like to request for re-edit the page. Ruralgreek (talk) 17:33, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ruralgreek, I restored the draft at your request in good faith, and you've gone right back to copying large amounts of text from elsewhere into it. I randomly sampled text throughout the draft, and look at one such match that I found within a few seconds:
Your draft:

It also becomes clearer where the Garre clan got its claims to superior rights over larger areas of Mandera than other clans; according to them, the clan was the first Somali group to arrive in Mandera, chased away the Borana, fought and defeated the Murulle and Degodia and then allowed the two clans back to graze-as visitors. In Garre’s view, the status quo has not change

UNDP [1]:

The genesis of the Garre clan’s claims to superior rights over larger portions of Mandera than other clans also become clearer- to them, the clan was the first Somali group to arrive in Mandera, chased away the Borana, fought and defeated the Murulle and Degodia and then allowed the two clans back to graze-as visitors. In Garre’s view, the status quo has not changed.

Literally the same thing throughout the whole draft. Read Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing very carefully – you can't just rearrange a bunch of words or replace some with their synonyms because that superficial modification creates a derivative work in which the original copyright still applies. I sometimes find it helpful to read the source material, then try to summarize it without directly referring to it (of course you can look at it afterwards, but this might help avoid the temptation of using the same or substantially similar phrasing). For now, I have restored the version of the draft with citations as copyright violations are not allowed in userspace. Please do not re-add the copied material or I will delete the page a second time. Thanks, DanCherek (talk) 15:04, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
i've tried to summarise the point the points to avoid paraphrasing and copyright infrigement. Kindly review it and give me feedback. Thank you Ruralgreek (talk) 18:26, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
