Long Reply

Well as to being back, I couldn't stay away more than a couple days. I'm probably going to be at low editing until the week after next because I have stuff going on, but there is too much here to do, and over the last four days I would go on but not edit. Kinda counter-productive. As to constructive stuff, I agree with you that the reception section needs some more quotes. I find the best combo for writing recepetion sections would be to intersperse vague impressions and specific details. However, I think it's okay as is, since most people approve of a paraphrased citied sentence as much as the direct quote. I find that direct quotes do the job better. So, rambling aside, you might want to consider something like this:

F-Zero was generally praised among the critical community, earning a 89% on gamerankings. Gamespot stated that "if you want a light-speed racer that looks and plays sharply while simultaneously offering some dramatic challenges, F-Zero GX is exactly what you're looking for." and "there's a lot going on in F-Zero GX." Gamespot was not totally convinced, noting, "There are a couple miniscule issues to speak of here (a few less than spectacular tracks, a daunting difficulty), but those noted F-Zero GX is still my favorite racer this generation, by far."

The usual setup is PP 1=General comments (opening and closing quotes work well) and then PP 2 and 3= exceptionally good and bad things (the stuff you've included already, except in quote form). Then you have your PP about sales figures and the like. I also ran into people during FAs who wanted me to include a PP which compared the game to other games like it. You may want to compare it to the sucess of other F-Zero games.

As to the missions section, delete it, send to strategy wiki and the like if you really want to. Sorry about the length, but uh yeah, I hope this answers your question.--Clyde (talk) 03:02, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

re: F-Zero

Hi,

I'm honoured that you chose to ask my opinion, considering that I have a lesser edit count and less time spent here than yourself. I will try to list some things that I think need work before this can become an FA, starting from the top:

Infobox

  • The F-Zero logo image needs a fair use rationale. For an ideal example of an FU rationale in a game article, see Image:FFVIIbattlexample.jpg. The same goes for all other images in the article, which need more detailed ones.
  • Instead of putting all of the release dates in the infobox, I would instead put "See List of F-Zero games" (a comment I was going to write about the games section was to split the list of games off into a seperate article titled, List of F-Zero games. See List of Final Fantasy titles, a featured list, as a good example.)

Lead

  • Why mention that "the game concept gives little focus to "car combat"", when there are many other racing games that don't have combat. If you think this should be mentioned, I would put it further down the article, possibly in the overview section, or as part of a section dealing with what makes F-Zero games unique from other racing games (just an idea).
  • "Graphical capabilities"? What does this mean? That the games have detailed graphics, fast graphics, or something else?
  • Because it has not yet been explained what "pilots" are, and "inspiring" seems a bit POV (unless you can back that up with a citation of a review who called the pilots and settings inspiring), I would instead say "unique characters and settings".

Overview

  • You can remove the first sentence from the first paragraph ("As mentioned by the manual..."), as it's not necessary because you are using inline citations for that. If anyone wants to know where the info is coming from, they can just check the references. I would, however, replace the sentence with something else so that the prose "flow" is kept.

Story

  • As a general note, this section could do with many more citations for all the "facts" presented, as this is backstory and not actual gameplay, I assume.
  • "Taking place in the 24th century, F-Max was the precursor to the F-Zero races. This competition predates the coming of F-Zero by some 200 years." Revise this to something like, "Taking place in the 24th century, F-Max was the precursor to the F-Zero races by some 200 years." (better flow).
  • We need a reference that states that F-Max races came 200 years before F-Zero races and took place in the 24th century.
  • In "F-Max era", there is a self-reference, "(see chronology)". To avoid this, I would instead wikilink "further inconsistencies" to the chronology section of the article.
  • Also in that section, change the dash after reference 2 to a semicolon.
  • In "Original F-Zero Era", there is no need to wikilink 2560, as it's unlikely that there will be an article anytime soon.
  • The section has past-tense/present-tense conflicts. Choose one or the other.
  • A citation is needed that says the F-Zero Grand Prix was founded by space merchants.
  • Change "When the first one was held" to "When the first race was held" or "When the first event was held" ("one" is not specific enough, and too casual).
  • "It purportedly has billions of fans, many of whom like to gamble on the outcomes of races" needs a citation.
  • In "Horrific Grand Finale", Huge Accident should be in quotes and a wikilink should be provided to the appropriate section of the article.
  • Horrific Grand Finale should be in quotes so that people don't think it's a capitalization error.
  • Wikilink Super Arrow.
  • Wikilink Zoda.
  • The last sentence of "F-Zero X Era" ("It is unknown, but likely...") should be removed as original research unless you can provide a citation.

Characters

  • There are currently over forty pilots? How many were there in the first game? Perhaps include a sentence dealing with the fact that more characters are added with each installment (if this is true). Something like, "While there were originally X pilots in the original F-Zero game, this has grown to over fourty in the latest installment", etc.

I have spent quite a bit of time typing, so I'll leave you with these comments for the moment. When I have some more time (which should be soon), I'll go through the rest of the article. Hope this helps, Green451 18:08, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Addendum: If this is too detailed, and you just wanted a rough idea of how much work would be needed to get to FA, I would say quite a bit. There are definitely some good parts, but there are some sections that are a bit rough, that's all. Green451 18:11, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

F-Zero GX

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I've been (and still am) busy. Because of that, I can't give you a huge amount of feedback like I did before, but I will say two things that I noticed:

  • The "Techniques" section leans a little too much towards being "game guide-ish".
  • I'm not sure if the table showing the different tracks is acceptable under MOS, but I don't know what else you could do. Maybe prosify it?

These are just a few small suggestions, but there are more things I'm sure. Thanks, and good luck getting the article to GA and beyond. Green451 15:26, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

FAC

As usual, be prepared for people to rip your finest work apart and all you can say is "thank you sir may I have another." Also be prepared because many articles don't make it their first FAC. However, the input you get will be important toward attaining FA. I'll help as best I can, and good luck.--Clyde (talk) 18:22, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Well you have my support now, and I think it would be worth something as the main contributor to put in your support (might want to let the community know that you are though.)--Clyde (talk) 21:28, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh congrats on F-Zero GX. Rock solid job. You should flaunt it somewhere on your userpage; it's really something to be proud of.--Clyde (talk) 00:01, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

List of Wii games

Hey there FullMetal Falcon,

I've noted that you've contributed before to the List of Wii games. Just wanted to let you know that the list is getting ready for Featured status and is currently undergoing a Peer Review. If you can take a moment to look over the article and add your suggestions/comments for improvement here, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks! -Digiwrld1 22:01, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Well according to the log Soumyasch deleted it as an ad and not asserting notability. I guess I'd ask him for the text so you can rewrite it, maybe with more citations so it asserts notabilty.--Clyde (talk) 01:07, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

I wish this article could be better. I'm trying to assume good faith, but I'm not so confident in some people working on the page. I'm not saying that they're trying to hurt the article, but I'm more inclined to believe that some of the editors are some what inexperienced or only work on this particular article. --myselfalso 17:39, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar. It was a nice way to start an evening on Wikipedia. By the way, I found an even crazier talk page for an unreleased game: Godzilla: Unleashed. Re: PNG to SVG

It would, in theory, be more efficient in the SVG format, so yes, it should be. However, even a PNG that was of slightly higher quality (the current one isn't) would suffice. Converting it would not be easy, though, because it contains a complex spectrum in the letters themselves. Alex43223 T | C | E 23:25, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

I assume it's for Captain Falcon? Well, I'd be happy to do it, but apart from that, I know that Clyde Miller (talk · contribs) and AndonicO (talk · contribs) are good (they helped me with Age of Mythology). Ask at WP:VG to get some other people. Giggy UCP 22:32, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Copy edited as requested. A couple of points to note:

  • I haven't referred specifically to the Link article, as that (IMO) falls a long way short of FA status - see Talk:Link (The Legend of Zelda) for my opinions on that
  • I don't know much about these games, so it would be worth having an expert check over my edits to make sure I haven't inadvertently added any errors anywhere
  • There were some sections that I think need more work. I've added comments to those sections, and to the talk page

I think once my comments have been addressed, the article will probably be a worthy GAC. If you decide to nominate for GAC and want me to copyedit again, just let me know --carelesshx talk 00:33, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

"Even by video game article standards, this source is inadequate - is there a link to a manual or official nintendo source available?" I know of a better source but I wasn't too sure about adding it so I went here. That site also is the only official source that has his full name. I have his whole profile so should I add all of it be in the "quote" parameter? FMF 15:54, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Ick... that's a tricky one. The reason I added that comment was that I though an unofficial guide to a completely different game was perhaps not the best source, particularly as I thought there would be an official source elsewhere. I've had a look for myself, and I haven't been able to find anything either. I guess, under the circumstances, it's better than no source at all. Maybe replace my comment with something along the lines of 'please replace this with a better source if one can be found'? --carelesshx talk 17:31, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm.....

You know I'll be honest I don't exactly remember (it's been so long) but I believe I intended to pass it as a good article. On further inspection I noticed some problems, so I corrected them. I think I did enough in my mind that I was a contributor and not a reviewer, so I decided not to pass it. I kept an eye on it after that, which is how I got involved. I think that was it, but I'm not sure. I've noticed you're continued improvements, they've kept it to very high standards. Good job.--Clyde (talk) 20:33, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

What? Of course I do. I own GX, X, and I've played AX. Great games. On GX I usually play Draq and Pico, as well as a custom character that's CAC.--Clyde (talk) 20:21, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you; I haven't been very active lately. I'm not much of a copyeditor, and little of my work alone has garnered the sought after bronze star. If I get a chance, I'll do what I can though.--Clyde (talk) 22:40, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Done.

Glad Giggy finally came to his senses. ;) By the way, he's here now. Anyway, I've finished the copyediting, and removed the tags. Just wanted to ask you though, in this sentence, did you really mean "above", or was that a mistake?: "An anti-gravity unit, known as the "G-Diffuser System", allows them to drive at high speeds, while retaining a hold of the magnetic track, located from a few inches to a foot above it." · AndonicO Talk 21:03, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't understand what you mean by "too similar to the original". If you're asking me if the story is incorrect, I'm not sure, because I don't own the game. (Is that what you meant, or am I on a completely different planet?) · AndonicO Talk 17:11, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Show/Hide

In the days before the great standardization of VG boxes and the many wars that followed, which ultimately lead to AMIB leaving, people went crazy with navboxes. The show hide function can be bad if there are several show hide navboxes stacked on each other. It creates problems in certain browsers. We are heading down the road again where we bloat navboxes, then show/hide them, then they screw up the page. If it is so bloated it needs to be hidden, how practical is it?--Clyde (talk) 22:27, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

You saw the battles and the climatic decisive end of the second navbox war, but much came to pass before then, predating even my contributions here.--Clyde (talk) 01:05, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Come to think of it, it could be AMIB erasing the final representations of his work or something...eh that's crazy.--Clyde (talk) 01:11, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

No sorry I don't have the manual. I bought the cartridge used at Gamestop many years ago. It didn't have the manual. In fact, I haven't been able to get what I was looking for 1080 off of ReplacementDocs. I wish there was a better place to go...--Clyde (talk) 22:18, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination this year. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 18:49, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

A character list isn't a game guide, period. Look at just about any fighting game article: there is a character list and it does no harm. Also: an article can be in good quality, even if it has a character list. RobJ1981 13:07, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Sales

Since I searched a lot for worldwide sales while writing an article - which I tried to somewhat mirror on your F-Zero GX work and bring it to FA without reaching a huge size; failed, got to restart someday - , I found the old version of that page, with NA sales (until 30\01\2004), and a rank of best-selling Australian games (but GX is only at 43, don't know if it's worthy). There's a newer US list, but I haven't found outside of a forum yet.

There are two types of import:

  • upload import : import a file in a special XML format produced by exporting pages from another wiki
  • transwiki import / interwiki import: import pages directly from another wiki

Import allows a specific user to "move" pages/files to Meta or elsewhere. Dreamy § 21:05, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Featured List of the Day Experiment

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 01:52, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
