Welcome

[edit]

Hello, TeckWiz and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  -- Arnzy | Talk 15:06, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Remember to mark your edits as minor only when they genuinely are (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). "The rule of thumb is that an edit of a page that is spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'." AdamJacobMuller 22:45, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note that only once out of 80+ legs on the Amazing Race has a team won a prize, without winning that individual leg. To include winners details for every prize is superfluous. --Madchester 21:14, 6 March 2006 (UTC) [reply]

The Amazing Race rules AfD

[edit]

To make an external link to another site, just surround the whole URL with single brackets, and put a single space and then the text you want to appear after the URL. In other words, writing this:

[http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race7/show/ep03/race/glossary/ Season 7 Glossary]

will produce this:

Season 7 Glossary

Hope that helps. Turnstep 14:40, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Main page

[edit]

Both of the incidents you refer to occured on April Fools Day, a day in which even wikipedia administrators go a little crazy =). First, someone unprotected the main page, and an anonymous user made a minor edit, and then later, an administrator changed the page to say something about monkeys for a few seconds. They were just doing it to be funny and different, and it doesn't appear that any real harm was done, though a bunch of editors were pretty upset. —Spangineer[es] (háblame) 01:53, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Survivor 13

[edit]

Hope you didn't mind the addition I added to Survivor 13. Nice job on the general article Dickclarkfan1 01:28, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I loved your addition. We now know almost definatly where it will be filmed. I reworded your edit a little bit, and put the locals said when it would start, so it wouldn't be confused with officials of CBS. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 01:52, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your sig

[edit]

Hey, noticed you were changing your sig on the AfD page. Do you need help changing the template itself? Because that would probably be your best bet, don't worry about the past sigs, just fix your sig template and keep signing. --Nscheffey(T/C) 12:40, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No I don't need help. I changed that just on the AFD page because I was making another edit to the page, and I knew that new signs don't replace old ones. However, as you will see in my sig, I changed the code already before I made that edit, so I don't need help. Thanks anyway. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 12:46, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your version of {{vacation3}}

[edit]

I've incorporated the start dates feature into {{vacation3}}, and removed your version from the Wikiholiday page. If you have any other modifications to the template, feel free to do them directly on the template, or if you're not quite sure how, then please leave me a message on my talk page. Regards. --digital_me(TalkContribs) 16:32, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you did the AfD for Adam Gentry. Would you like to do a similar AfD for Nathan Gonzalez? If not, I can do it. -- Gogo Dodo 16:37, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The page says that one of the purposes is so that if young Wikipedians mess-up, other users shouldn't get very mad since it was only a kid, versus what someone would do if the kids were adults. Welcome to Esperanza!

[edit]

Welcome, TeckWiz, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Why do you guys organize them by surname, it makes no sense

Hello!

[edit]

Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia and Esperanza! If you ever need any help in any kind with something on Wikipedia or elsewhere you may see my talk page. You look like you're doing pretty good for a relatively new user—impressive, and I congratulate you. What kind of a school do you go to? I wouldn't expect it to infringe on your editing time very much. I find your opinions on the current POTUS rather... interesting.

He possibly had documents about 9/11 happening, and did nothing

Whoa, whoa, whoa... "possibly?"

He nominated someone to the Supreme Court of the US who wasn't even a judge

I hope you aren't much of a credentialist or an advocate of bastardization, because then you'd be in trouble!

He caused many deaths in Hurricane Katrina when federal response from FEMA was late and too little. The head of FEMA at the time was one of "Bush's Buddies"

Ah. Bush killed them all, I see. :P

He knew about the NSA'S secret wire-tapping, which is an impeachable act (but now 3/4 of the Senate and the House of Representatives are Republicans and Bush's Buddies, so they would never impeach him.

Could you point me to the sacred law he broke right there? Democrats have been screaming "impeach Bush" since the month after he was inducted. If he was guilty of embezzlement or homicide then it wouldn't matter how many Congressmen were Republicans.

Are you particularly interested in any subject matter yet? What kind of musical instruments do you play? You look like a pretty good editor— please consider editing in articles outside of the Amazing Race and Survivor namespaces, if you know what I mean. ECOTM

[edit]

Please go to the main Esperanza talk page to discuss the new proposal of the Esperanza Collaboration of the month. I ask you this because you have joined up, but we still need opinions and support. Thank you. DoomsDay349 04:32, 11 November 2006 (UTC) [reply]

The problem is that when you try to do section editing, such as here, you get the nasty surprise that you cannot add anything to the discussion, as the discussion is elsewhere. That is generally considered a bad idea... Titoxd(?!?) 00:59, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you make the main header part of the tranclusion then you won't have that problem. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 01:01, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Problem fixed. Main header added to transclusion. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 01:03, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But there's still no real reason to have that transcluded into the page, instead of just being on the page... Titoxd(?!?) 01:07, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Each page selected as the COTM should have a subpage for discussions. Since other editors not part of ECOTM would want to see whats happening, there should be a transclusion on the article's talk page. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 01:09, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And exactly why it can't be on the main article's talk page? I'm lost as to what the purpose of this is... Titoxd(?!?) 01:12, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It should be a ECOTM subpage because it's part of ECOTM. That way all the discussions are stored in the same place. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 01:16, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But there is no need to store the discussions on a Esperanza subpage. The primary purpose of the transcluded discussion is about the article, not Esperanza meta-discussion. If we were talking about organizational issues, I would understand, but not in this case. No other COTW does that. Titoxd(?!?) 01:18, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I believe there was a discussion on the ECOTM talk page, saying about creating archives. This is where the organization comes in.
I am pretty sure the archives they were talking about were similar to this history archive and this nominations archive. Titoxd(?!?) 01:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. But once again, since this is part of ECOTM, shouldn't it be a subpage of it?
Not really. The things that should be subpages of ECOTM are the meta-discussions ("What do we do about this page? How do we tag articles? Which one do we pick next?" etcetera), but the discussion about the articles should be in the article talk page, for several reasons. First, that's what the talk page is for: to discuss issues pertaining to improving the article. Then, making a thread in a subpage that is transcluded on another page causes the talk page to fall off from someone's watchlist: if the edit is made on the talk page of the article, then everyone, whether an Esperanza member or not, can see it. Third, there isn't as much value in us storing those discussions, as their primary purpose should be article improvement. Finally, no other collaboration does that, and users coming from other collaborations might be confused by our method. Titoxd(?!?) 01:30, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. You seem right. What about the opposite, a tranclusion on an ECOTM subpage, and the real thing on the article subpage. TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 01:42, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that is technically possible, sadly. :( Titoxd(?!?) 01:55, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why isn't it possible? TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 02:07, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Transclusion of only one section of a page is impossible, unless we use <noinclude>, which would be a fragile fix, as it would probably be lost whenever the talk page is archived. Titoxd(?!?) 22:17, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:ECOTM

[edit]

Nope, there's no problem with signing yourself there, so long as you think you can handle it. No offense to you, or anything, but you have less than 1000 mainspace edits, although they look like good ones. If, for any reason, you seem to fall behind, we might replace you with a more experienced editor. But for now, you're good. Welcome! DoomsDay349

In response, I agree; I think maybe we should just take American Revolution for December as well, after all it's our first shot so we were bound to be slow. Hopefully it'll pick up. DoomsDay349 21:01, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Adminship

[edit]

It is my regretful task to inform you that I have closed your request for adminship early as unlikely to achieve consensus. Please do not be discouraged; a number of users have had their first RfA end without consensus, but have been promoted overwhelmingly in a later request. Please continue to make outstanding contributions to Wikipedia, and consider requesting adminship again in the future. You may find Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship helpful in deciding when to consider running again. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to ask. Essjay (Talk) 02:57, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You'll find that most people will echo Essjay's comments. Your initiative and enthusiasm are to be commended; don't be put off by the early closure, just consider that this was an RfA preliminary test drive. For another perspective, see Lantoka's RfA tips page. Skyemoor 15:46, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA

[edit]

Hello! I hope I wasn't too gruff sounding in my comments-- you are indeed on the right track, and if you continue to move along it and gain more experience, I think you will make a great admin in time. You may just want to spend a little bit more time at WP:XFD since closing these is one of the reasons you want to be an admin. Best, Dar-Ape 22:48, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aww, I'm sorry for your RfA (even though I opposed). Please don't be discouraged and keep up your good work so that you may have an overwhelmingly successful RfA next time. :-) Regards,--Húsönd 22:50, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't look at this as a defeat because it isn't. Everyone who commented on your RfA wants to see you improve as an editor; we all believe that you can and it's good that you do too! Take the advice on board and keep up the good edits. I'll expect to see you back on RfA some time in the New Year. Regards, (aeropagitica) 23:15, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you, but it looks like there was a slight misunderstanding. You wrote on your edit summary you were reverting "double vandalism". This is quite so. For some reason I can't apprehend my revert, which should otherwise contain sensible material, became worthless and full of nonsense. I don't know how vandals do this. Maybe they edited my revert and wrote whatever they wanted, but if that was so, shouldn't that show on the History page? Please don't think of me as one of those people. If you look at my contribution list you'll see I have been fighting them very actively over the past few days and have never engaged in reprehensible behavior before. Thank you very much for your time. EDIT: Forget that. That happened because Lupin only caught a mistake on line 92 whilere there were others, which you've corrected, on line 62 and who knows where else. Hope this proves my innocence(if you ever doubted it, that is). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ishikawa Minoru (talkcontribs)

As I hit the edit button, you probably hit submit. The double vandalism I was referring to was that of an IP, and a vandalism account. In other words, you beat me to it. I'm going to make a blank edit (no changes) with an edit summary describing the mistake. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 00:32, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to know everything is okay. I really must stop being paranoid but these vandals are driving me insane. Ishikawa Minoru 00:40, 16 December 2006 (UTC) [reply]

You are a legend, please keep up the great work!  Glen  20:44, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Just a wee tip while I have you. We normally require at least two warnings be given to a vandal (say a first and then a final) and then after the {{test4}} if they vandalize another page, then report them. I've just had to add a final to a couple of the vandals you just listed... thanks again!
For what looks like nonsense I use test2. For obvious I use test3 or bv. WP:AIV states test3, test4, and bv are all acceptable for final warning. And thanks for the barnster!. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 20:47, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately whilst we can see any specific deleted edit, we can no longer see all the deleted edits of a user due to privacy concerns. So I cant help you there Im afraid...sorry!  Glen  21:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Hi,

You have put yourself as interested in helping out at WikiProject on user warnings. We are now at a stage where we are creating the new templates and are wondering if you are still interested? If so please visit the overview page and choose a warning type you wish to work on. There is a base template available here, which you can copy and use to get you started. Have a look through the redirects and see what old templates are affected and incorporate them into the the new system. Anyway, any questions please don't hesitate to give me a shout. Regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 09:01, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking on the npa warnings. Just a question why do you consider it's not possible to have a npa0 & 1 warning. IMHO it is possible to give a warning for personal attacks AND assume good faith at the same time. Example, is a new editor not familiar with how editors talk to each other who calls someone an idiot in a minor disagreement the same as an editor calling another an 'effin' loser. The guidelines recommends have warnings 0 - 3 for blockable and 0 - 2 for not blockable, and if we don't try to keep to that we will end up with exactly the same system we have now, bits of warning here and there and no consistency. Just my thoughts whaddya reckon? Cheers again Khukri (talk . contribs) 17:25, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I guess a npa1 can be used. but 0 is definitely too light. If someone for example, brings up on an article talk page how "some idiot" keeps removing one of his details, but also explains why, he's just losing a little of his cool. I guess that that could be an npa1. But, something like capitalizing on the user's talk page "YOU IDIOT!", should definitely deserve a npa2 or 3. Also, anything that would be considered vandalism, except for the fact that it's an attack, like blanking someones userpage with "You (any profanity)!!!" should be considered npa3. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 21:52, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've copied this discussion to the project page, to gain further concensus. Cheers Khukri (talk . contribs) 08:10, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]

Thank you for your support in my RfA, which I have chosen to withdraw early at a final count of (10/8/3) as it was unlikely to gain consensus. Most users wanted me to be more experienced, so I shall continue to contribute and reapply sometime in the future. I am grateful for the kind words I was given, and will do my best to improve in the areas that were cited as my weaknesses. Please always feel free to help me along with a suggestion on how I could improve, and if you ever need help, I am ever at your service. Best as always, Dar-Ape 23:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you've reverted the long term vandalism on this article. I was just wondering if you intend to keep an eye on it? Mallanox 01:28, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No. I use Lupin's IP tool for Recent Changes Patrol. All pages I edit are automatically added to my watchlist, but I usually remove all of the articles and users the are only part of RCP. In short, unless I edit the article (vs. just revert), it will not be on my watchlist and I won't monitor it. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 01:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I'll watch it for a while. Happy hunting...Mallanox 01:33, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just saw you submitted a vandal report to WP:AIV. I just wanted to let you know that I did not block the vandal, because they were not properly warned. In most cases, you have to progress through t1, t2, t3, t4 before any action will be taken. Going to t4 directly is not really helpful, as in the case with this IP vandal, since the user only made two edits. No admin will ever block a user with one or two warnings unless it has to do with sockpuppetry. I thought you might want to know for future purposes. Keep up the good work, though. =) Best, Nishkid64 21:47, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware of this, but when someone put "*** is a ****!!!", I don't think it should receive a test 1 or 2. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 21:57, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not censored. Saying curse words is not a direct t4, in fact...I don't think anything is a direct t4. I personally go for a t2 first warning if it's cursing, and t1 for everything else. Nishkid64 22:03, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I know the wiki isn't censored. I'm saying not just cursing, but calling someone a curse I would consider worse than just cursing, which is what the user did. And there is a jump directly to t4. The template is {{test4im}}. It states it's the only warning the user will receive. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 22:08, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
True. Still, I know no admin will block if they see that warning and only two/three edits by a user. Also, curse vandalism is not the worst form. Pagemove is probably the worst, because it takes a while to fix up. I think pagemove would justify a {{test4im}}, not cursing. Nishkid64 22:16, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't give him that warning. I gave him bv, which is suitable for obvious vandalism, which is what the user did. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 22:18, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Why didn't you say so earlier? I thought you gave him a t4 directly. Sorry, I don't know my warnings :-P. Anyway, {{bv}} doesn't equal a {{test4}} warning. Usually, you'll have to give a bv, t3/t4 before any possible action is taken. And now I'm watchlisting this page, so no need to reply on my talk page lol. =) Nishkid64 22:21, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I like to use that reply message (which is substed from User: TeckWiz/Reply for new users, and users that I don't know are definitely watching this page. TeckWizTalkContribs@ 22:24, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, doesn't really matter, I guess. Nishkid64 22:30, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TeckWiz. Just a little bit about AWB. Edits like these are not what AWB is supposed to be used for. AWB is an extremely powerful tool, and is great for specific tasks, but general "cleanup" edits are against the rules of use. Have fun! —Mets501 (talk) 04:08, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No Problem at all!

Just post {{welcome123}} on a users talk page. You can find loads of newbies here! Ta! frummer 00:50, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Report Vandalism

[edit]
This user reports vandals to administrators so they can be blocked.

I have noticed that you report vandals to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, so consider using the new userbox User:Lordmontu/Userboxes/Vandal Reporter. --Lordmontu 01:53, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WelcomeBot

[edit]

I am doing research in prep for the welcomebot trail in order to establish some facts on new user trends. Please can you have a look at Category:WelcomeBotResearch. I would appreciate your involvement. Also so as to assist, please can you sub your welcome template with {{welcome123}} which includes that category. Thanks. frummer 23:19, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
