Here's what I wrote on the talk page: "I haven't found a reference for the date yet, but 9-years-old was a typical age for a slave boy to begin an apprenticeship. 19 would have been considered a late age. My bet would on 1850 being correct." In the German wikipedia article, I'd leave the date out until a citation can be found. —D. Monack | talk 18:49, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I restored my edit for this article as the image in the Library of Congress is incorrectly labeled. Removed image which is of Isaac W. Hayne of SC.
