Information icon Hello, I'm EdwardUK. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, John Christie (murderer), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. EdwardUK (talk) 04:42, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for your message. You’ve actually raised a point that I’ve been wondering about for a while. Well, it’s actually 2 points:

1. All of the paragraphs I wrote are complete truths, acquired over many years of fascination and research into this house. And for that reason, I can’t pin-point EXACTLY where this information comes from. Although I do see two of the books which do contain most of the information I wrote are already listed in the Works Cited section. Do they really need to be added again?

2. If I were around at the time of the event written about (I wasn’t), how would I cite my knowledge of the events? If I was Jackie Kennedy writing about the assassination of JFK would I be asked for sources?

I’ve tried to make this sound as un-shitty as possible; I’m genuinely curious. Shaun160789 (talk) 11:36, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Each statement should have a citation accompanying it as otherwise it is difficult for readers to see where the information is from, even if the source is used elsewhere in the article. If the source is already listed this should make it easier to copy the format of the existing citations, adjusting the page numbers as needed. Wikipedia is not the place for writing about personal knowledge or experiences – these would need to be published somewhere else first which could then be used as a source when used on Wikipedia. There are key guidelines about this, Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:No original research, which you may find helpful. EdwardUK (talk) 14:07, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
