Hello, I'm Cresix. I noticed that you made a change to an article, List of Americans of English descent, but you didn't provide a reliable source. I've removed it for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Cresix (talk) 16:47, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I randomly checked the bio articles for several of your additions and, in fact, there was no sourced information about English ancestry on several of those that I checked. By the way, if a statement in an article has "citation needed" after it, that means it needs a source and is subject to removal. I would suggest double-checking and adding only those that are clearly well sourced in their article. For those that aren't, it would be best to add sources to the bio articles, but you also can add citations in the list article. Cresix (talk) 17:46, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Americans of English descent

[edit]

SmashXY, rather than repeatedly reverting your edits, I thought it might be best if we discuss some of them. Below are a few of your additions that I cannot find clear evidence in the sources you cite. Remember, the English descent must be clearly and specifically stated in the source. The evidence can't be something that the reader must infer from other names in the source, nor is the source sufficient if the reader must click something in the source and go to other webpages, then piecing together the connections (see WP:SYN). As a hypothetical example, perhaps you source John Doe but the source does not say he has English ancestry; if your explanation is something like "The webpage lists his father as 'Arthur Doe', and if you click Arthur's name it will take you to a page that lists some of his ancestors; and if you click some of those ancestors you will eventually get back to England". That is not clear evidence on the webpage that you cite for Wikipedia. So here are the ones that confused me, and perhaps I have missed something that is obvious. But if you could quote the specific wording in each source that clearly and unequivocally identifies English ancestry, that might help me:

Emily Deschanel: http://genealogy.about.com/b/2011/11/01/ancestors-emily-deschanel.htm
Helen Hunt: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~battle/celeb/hunt.htm
Miranda Cosgrove: http://mobile.twitter.com/MirandaCosgrove/status/4561510254 - The souce does say English; but places like Facebook and Twitter have lots of posers pretending to be celebrities. Do you have any evidence that's actually her Twitter?

Thanks. Cresix (talk) 00:17, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Afro-Surinamese, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Congo (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
