Is the Instagram calculator reliable?[edit]

You've added references to a video from a company that produces an Instragram post value calculator to articles including Selena Gomez. How can we rely on that calculator as a source? I don't see where the publisher passes WP:RS. —C.Fred (talk) 17:50, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The calculator uses engagement-based valuation methods which are shown in detail towards the end of the video. The calculator is free so anyone can use it to generate a value on Selena Gomez's posts to see how each valuation is conducted, along with all the raw engagement data and how it was applied.Sodidyouknow (talk) 17:58, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Where have the methods been peer reviewed? —C.Fred (talk) 18:13, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The process of valuing Instagram posts is relatively subjective but it is nonetheless very important considering the growing influencer marketing demand. I found out from the developer of the calculator that there were a few sources used to come up with the methods. They used the https://www.aspireiq.com/resources ebook "How much to pay an influencer" to get industry average cost per engagement (i.e. how much, on average, an influencer in specific industry charges per engagement i.e. per like or comment on a post) and uses this value in 3 different ways to arrive at a value per post. All 3 methods are described in detail and published along with every report, so anyone can run the numbers by hand and see if they make sense. The process is actually just arithmetic, nothing complex that someone with a basic math background can't verify. They also used this article for some guidance https://medium.com/the-mission/how-to-measure-what-an-instagram-post-is-worth-ffb38e91a9dd. The public is the peer-reviewer, so anyone with an understanding of arithmetic can contest any of the methods and suggest corrections. If you search for Instagram post price calculators on the web, none are as detailed as this one and none of the others provide the actual method of calculation or raw data used. Also, I should add that I put "may" be worth to indicate that this is just an estimate and not exact.Sodidyouknow (talk) 19:13, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
C.Fred Do you still feel that the above not sufficient to be able to use the video as a source, considering method is clearly laid out and can be disproven/corrected in the future?Sodidyouknow (talk) 20:50, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
