Dr. Trilochan Singh on Yogi Bhajan

I am very new at this Wikipedia editing so please be patient and understanding. I have included here some references on Dr. Trilochan Singh's credibility and my own personal experiences with Yogi Bhajan. I have also posted these on the discussion page. I think most of the article on YB is very biased and some things are just wrong facts but I do not have the skills to repair and correct all of it.

Dr. Trilochan Singh's creditbility:

Please check these links for references and credible evidence of Dr. Trilochan Singh's prominence as a Sikh scholar: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Gurdwara_Reform_Movement During the Gurdwara Reform Movement, the Sikh leaders started a publication that was named Akali. From this paper and its policy the leaders began to be called Akalis, in view of which they formed the present Akali party. These Nihang Akalis should not be confused with the members of the Akali party.’ The Turban And The Sword’' , by Dr. Trilochan Singh. Concerning Dr. Trilochan Singh and Yogi Bhajan

To: Guru Fatha Singh Khalsa; you have obviously never talked to traditional Punjabi Sikhs about Dr. Trilochan Singh. Dr Trilochan Singh is a very well respected writer of Sikh history and religion. Search google and you'll find his writings at many traditional Sikh websites and read his entire book "Sikhism and Tantric Yoga" at Gurmukhyoga.com. My Punjabi Gursikh wife has high regard for Dr. Trilochan Singh. She is from the same home town in Ludhiana Punjab as he is. She read Dr. Trilochan Singh's biography of Bai Sahib Randheer Singh when she was a child and it inspired her greatly. I think you need to do more research on the values and practices of Yogi Harbhajan if you’re writing his biography. To begin with YB's surname is Puri and my wife instantly said when I told her this, "oh he is a mona Punjabi" these families are more Hindu than Sikh. If you google Puri you'll find that the Puri families are staunch Hindus. I think you'll find YB was really more of a Hindu than a Sikh. If you also search on Gurmukhyoga.com you'll find a post with pictures of Hindu gods in and around 3-HO Gurdwaras and prominently displayed at Siri Singh Sahib's (Yogi Bhajan's) estate. I spent two years in India recently and no one I met in Amritsar or the Punjab respected Yogi Harbhajan as a Sikh or even as a Yogi for that matter. Gurcharan Singh Tohra, ex president of the SGPC who you say supported YB, was nothing more than a crooked politician. I met the man in 1983 and he could hardly speak a word of English. I think any support he gave YB was because he saw all these white people supposedly converting to Sikhi but he didn't have the capacity or desire to understand what was really going on with all the sacrilegious tantric and hindu practices of Yogi Harbhajan. Gurcharan Singh Tohra was also completely disgraced during the blue star operation when he came out of the Darbar Sahib with his hands held up and surrendered to Indira Ghandi’s hooligans who attacked the Golden Temple. I am putting back sections about Dr. Trilochan Singh as it adds some balance and truth to this article on Yogi Bhajan.Guru Sant Singh (talk) 14:43, 21 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.44.182.82 (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.44.182.82 (talk)

Nasserg (talk) 09:23, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Pls review

Thx for pointing out the problems - new to Wiki and have added a history section for the school which does not have any original research or novel synthesis - the source is from the school website. Is this sufficient? Thx.

Nasserg (talk) 10:07, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

The school's website can be used sparingly for information. However, you have copied content that is not neutral and gives the look of an advertising brochure. That is the main problem. You can see WP:YFA to get information on how to write articles. Also, some specific links that'll be useful are WP:SPS, WP:NPOV, WP:RS, WP:V. Read through these and you'll get an idea on some of our core policies. Let me know if you have any other questions. You can also create a sandbox page at User:Nasserg/Sandbox and use that to write your content. Once you do that, you can ask a few editors for feedback, before you enter that into the main article. Hope this helps. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 10:28, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Woohoo Spiff!

Hey, do you mind having a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kuttiyattu paradevada temple? There's a matter there for your attention, and possibly you have a good suggestion for a solution. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 01:09, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

The current suggestion seems most logical. I'd do it right away but for the small matter of having commented. The next passer-by admin could userfy it. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 02:25, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Spiff, one more thing. I've just reworked Marshall 1959 a little bit, and wanted an assessment on it. I looked at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guitarists/Assessment but don't see how to nominate it for a re-assessment. What do I do with it? (Or should I suggest it for GA? It's a bit short...) Thanks! Drmies (talk) 03:34, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Generally anyone can assess at any level except GA and above IMO. I've assessed it as start, purely based on size, but it could also be assessed as C-class based on the reference quality and prose. Is that what you were asking? cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 09:10, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, thanks! Drmies (talk) 14:09, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Temple articles

Hi, Thanks for your suggestions. Most of the temples are in the format of "XXX temple". And as per WP:AT and WP:VERB, I had been trying to synchronize all to the same format. If all temples are to be in "XXX" Temple format, pls do let me know the guidelines on the same in wikipedia. Thanks. - Thaejas (talk) 14:18, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

The "T" in temple should be capitalized as it's part of a proper noun (see WT:VERB, the example used there of Northwestern University applies in this case also). I wanted to confirm that my interpretation is correct, so I also asked this question at WT:HNB to make sure I wasn't wrong. I've moved some of them back, but since you've done a lot of work on this already, it's going to take a while to move all back. However, if you find any where it's temple instead of Temple, feel free to move them to the correct title in the meantime. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 14:21, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

another fine display of red ink collecting. And of course even in a 45-55 situation, give the award to SRT. I thought Raina was more effective overall with the same average and a higher SR by 10. Plus the 6 wickets, ER of 7.?? in 24 overs. and a few diving catches YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 06:42, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that was pretty daft I thought. Raina was the one that influenced the outcome of IPL3 and if you saw the presentation ceremony, pretty much everyone was looking at Raina when it was being awarded. That's what comes of Gavaskar and Shastri being on the jury. Don't know if you saw the MI vs RCB game, when Tendulkar "caught" Dravid and Dravid refused to walk, Gavaskar was questioning Dravid's judgment, sportsmanship etc etc and how he can doubt the word of Tendulkar and all that. Then 3rd umpire ruled in Dravid's favor and not so much as "ok, Dravid seems to have been right" or something. —SpacemanSpiff 07:57, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Didn't watch the prez as I knew I would have to look at Modi's evil grin for another hour and an egotistical brag. Did see the SF but have the commentary really low because it's worthless anyway. I normally have the commentary on low too, but missed this time. The "extra" shows was ridiculous, don't know where they came up with such people, and I thought Mandira Bedi was bad. —SpacemanSpiff 03:15, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

  1. Selected what redirects here in Source
  2. Entered Padmanabhaswamy temple
  3. Clicked on Make list
  4. Selected Start tab and clicked on Start.

In the status bar of the window, Skipped: 8. But the changes are not reflected. Should I click on Save? Pls help. I have checked with Abecedare and he directed me to you. Pls help.Thaejas (talk) 05:30, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

It's been a while since I used AWB and don't have it installed anymore, so if you need any help on that I'd suggest checking on the AWB discussion board or asking User:CarTick or User:Shreevatsa who are more recent users. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 05:54, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Punjab region

Dear SpacemanSpiff, please read the article on the Punjab region before reverting my edits. Perhaps I should mention the word "historically" as an adverb. According to The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition copyright ©2000 by Houghton Mifflin Company,

A historical region of the northwest Indian subcontinent bounded by the Indus and Yamuna rivers. It was a center of the prehistoric Indus Valley civilization and after c. 1500 b.c. the site of early Aryan settlements. Muslims occupied the western part of the region by the 8th century, introducing Islam, and although they later conquered the eastern part, Hinduism remained entrenched there. The Moguls brought the region to cultural eminence until their empire declined in the 18th century. The Punjab was controlled by Sikhs from 1799 to 1849, when it was annexed by Great Britain. It was partitioned between India and Pakistan in 1947.

With regards, AnupamTalk 06:53, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, but you are misrepresenting the source. Read WP:SYNTH. —SpacemanSpiff 06:55, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
And the parts about the Delhi, Haryana and HP being part of Punjab is mentioned only in the British province area. Either you find a better source, or don't add. I clearly dispute your interpretation of the source, and it looks like I am not the only one, as this has been reverted before too. —SpacemanSpiff 06:59, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
This was hardly a reply to the reference I just provided above which cites a dictionary definition of the historical Punjab region. What else lies from the Indus to the Yamuna rivers if it be not Haryana, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh, which all have Punjabi as their official state language (along with Hindi). Are you also trying to say that the article on the Punjab region is wrong? Please kindly revert your edits. With regards, AnupamTalk 07:04, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
I have explained myself quite clearly, you are welcome to initiate a discussion on the talk page per WP:BRD and gain consensus for your additions. —SpacemanSpiff 07:05, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Per WP:RS, I will restore the deleted content as you have not given a reply to my queries. Another reputable source, The encyclopedia Americana, Volume 23 states that the Punjab region "extends between the Indus River on the west, in Pakistan, and the Yamuna (Jumna) River on the east, in India." I will post this information on the talk pages of the articles and then reinsert the material at my convenience. With regards, AnupamTalk 07:11, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
That's nonsense, I've given you a reply, you refuse to listen, period. Now you're edit warring. —SpacemanSpiff 07:12, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
I am not edit warring. You reverted my edits despite the fact that I just provided you with two more credible references which discuss the issue as you have requested. Moreover, I stated that I would post the information on the talk pages of the articles, as you requested. Why did you state that my reply was nonsense when I did as you instructed me? Why have you not commented on my references which prove the claim that was inserted into the articles? I look forward to hearing from you soon. With regards, AnupamTalk 07:16, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Nonsense because I've clearly explained above and you keep saying I haven't responded. As far as googling five words together and saying they appear on the same page, my comment on WP:SYNTH applies. Like I said, if you have a credible reference that says exactly what you're trying to say, then I'll be fine with the addition, but not something that you interpret the source as saying. As for the edit warring comment, it was targeted at your subsequent revert on one of the three articles. —SpacemanSpiff 07:29, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
I will provide you with a reference that says exactly what I did: The Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, which states "In India, ethnic Punjabis can be found across the greater Punjab region which now comprises the states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Delhi." I hope these posts continue to clear things up for you. In light of the information I have been giving you, could you please kindly revert your edits in good faith? With regards, AnupamTalk 07:34, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

notable?

Hey Spiff, I got a question for you at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Iqbal Singh. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 18:12, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Interesting one. I've never heard of this school (I'm not very familiar with law schools), but it's quite easily confused with India's premier law school -- National Law School of India University. The article on the school says it's modeled after the latter and is ranked third in India (which is a pretty significant thing since there are many law schools and legal education is well developed in the country). However, I get this very funny feeling that, the article is confusing a few Iqbal Singhs and combining them to create the profile for one. But on the face of it, if he's a distinguished prof at said school (and the school's website says so), he should pass WP:PROF, but it needs sources (and I haven't the time to look currently, will try in a couple of days). cheers —SpacemanSpiff 18:31, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I found the directory information which has him as distinguished, so that should be solid. Drmies (talk) 19:02, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
