Re: Edit Summaries[edit]

Hi Steelback! Just a quick note, nothing nasty or anything, but in your edit summaries, you don't need to keep telling us not to delete your articles! We aren't gonna kill the article if its properly referenced as yours are, so please don't worry! We only apply for deletion on an article if its unreferenced, unsourced, or for example, if its total gobbledegook! Rugby Town players[edit]

The articles have been deleted because the subjects very clearly fail the WP:ATHLETE criteria - i.e. they have not played in a fully professional league - there is no contention here whatsoever. The only exception is Craig Herbert, which, as you'll have noticed, I have tried to improve a little bit. In addition, Your accusation that non-League football "doesn't interest" me is completely false - I watch non-League football almost every weekend, and have visited well over 50 non-League clubs. Brian Crump[edit]

Sorry for slow response. There's a line in the template for cricketers that reads "living =" and if you add "true" to that then it should do the deed and also calculate the age of a still-living player (assuming you've filled in the details there). To be certain, you can also delete all the "date of death" etc lines from the template: they can be reinstated later when they are needed! Nice to see someone tackling the unsung heroes of the 1960s; your name suggests a particular affinity with Northants. My particular Northants favourite at that time was Albert Lightfoot who seemed to spend a whole career being "promising", fulfilling that promise in only a couple of seasons early on and then at the end of his career.   • Thanks for the reply and i am sorry that I have taken so long to reply, i have been trying to create pages for all the old, well-known players for the past at Northamptonshire, but it is difficult to find information on many of them, which is why i think it is important to try and write things about them on wikipedia. Albert Lightfoot is mentioned in the records section of Northamptonshire's page and so was one of the next players on my list ofr creating a page (after all if you are one half of a team's record 6th wicket partenership then you should probably have a page on wikipedia, especially when the other player involved has a page) - I will be using all of my dad's old books to find as much info on Lightfoot as i can, then i will get on with creating his page, so far i only have his stats...

  • To be perfectly honest i have no idea why notices like this come up on my talk page just because i created a page (and several others like it) over a year ago, at the time i decided to create pages for all of the players for Rugby Town, at which point most of the pages were deleted quite quckly as they didnt meet notability guidelines, 3 of these pages didnt get deleted; Craig Herbert, David Staff and Stephan Morley. This was because the first two didnt fail the criteria, while the latter left the club he was at and so went unnoticed to all you who like to delete articles. Please post no further notices on my talk page regarding the page in question as i consider it not my fault that the page is still in existance and was not deleted along with the rest of the pages for Rugby Town players. Albert Lightfoot[edit]

My recollection is that when Lightfoot first came into the side in the early to mid 1950s, it was as a bowler who could bat a bit. The 119 he got in the partnership with Subba Row opened a few eyes to his possibilities as a batsman, but if you think of the strength of the Northants batting line-up over the late 1950s and early 1960s, the fact that he could bowl a bit probably kept him in the side when his batting average drooped. Which it did, rather a lot: in practical terms, he had only a couple of really good seasons with the bat before settling down to average a steady 20 or so, which isn't really that good for a specialist batsman (but perhaps passable for someone who could bowl too). Anyway, to answer your question directly, I think I'd call him an all-rounder. I'll look forward to reading the article in due course! Johnlp (talk) 10:54, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, well if it is a copy, then it is a problem. But you should be able to reword and to insert material from one of the statistical sites, such as www.cricketarchive.com, with proper inline citations and references so that you distance the article here from whatever there is in the book. I'll try to take a look later today, but I'm busy IRL and about to go away for a period, so may not be able to do much. Don't worry: this happens to us all! Vince Broderick[edit]

He's slightly before my time and I remember being a bit puzzled by him: with his various career performances, he should surely have played a lot more often and had a longer career. I think you're fine to call him an all-rounder, although at various stages of his career he seems to have been used primarily as a bowler and then later on mainly as a batsman. I think I can just about remember him opening the innings for a while. Suspect he's at least as distinguished as the American judge who's hogging the Vincent Broderick page so there may be scope to disambiguate a bit differently.
