Dermatology, etc
I replied regarding Acne excoriée des jeunes filles. Also, any interest in dermatology? This field of medicine has a rich history, with beginnings in France and England. Mont Bellevue
Just to let you know, I've moved your content about the park to a separate article, Mont Bellevue Park. The park is certainly a valid article topic, but the borough is too — they should both have articles, rather than one article replacing the other one. But the way our naming conventions work on en:, the title Mont-Bellevue, Quebec has to be the borough rather than the park, because the comma format is for populated places (cities, towns, villages, boroughs, etc.) rather than geographic features. The park needs to be at a title which has the word park in it — and if further disambiguation were needed, because it's a geographic feature rather than a settlement the word "Quebec" would have to be in parentheses rather than being offset by a comma. - No worries. I'm actually kind of surprised that fr: hasn't really done articles about the boroughs themselves; as far as I know, they've certainly done them for all of the other cities in Quebec with arrondissements. As for the park article, the stub notice is probably okay for now, since it's still really only a couple of paragraphs long — but there is also a bit of a tendency on here to just leave the stub notices forever, even when the article has gotten really long and thorough, so any individual editor is free to make a judgement call one way or the other at any time. Firstly, you did not delete the first request--which I added erroneously--another user did, so I would not be violating the three strike rule (in fact you are arguably the one guilty of edit warring). I corrected my actions by adding the proper template yet you removed it without explaining yourself on the talk page, as per standard procedure. If you are so confident that the page should not be deleted, why not allow for an open discussion? The "article," if you can call it that, clearly does not meet any of the criteria. Pronunciation of Causapscal
Hello again, Amqui! I'm just looking for a clarification re: the pronunciation of "Causapscal." Is it said "ceau-sap-scale" (phonetic French) or "co-pascal?" I was talking about it with a friend and he was convinced it was the latter. - Sweet Nightmares 01:41, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
- It's the first one, but it's "keau-zap-scale", a "s" between 2 vowels is pronunced like a "z" in French (and your "ceau" doesn't work either, because a "c" in front of a "e" is pronunced like a "s" in French instead of like a "k" like when it's in front of a "a", "e" is a soft vowel while "a" is a hard vowel). Just for future reference, stub templates such as {{quebec-geo-stub}} go at the bottom of a new article that you're creating, not the top. As well, please ensure that you're directly filing a new article in at least one content category, such as Category:Rivers of Quebec (or a regional subcategory if one exists) for a river, or Category:Lakes of Quebec (or a regional subcategory if one exists) for a lake. Halifax DAB
You mentioned why Halifax is a DAB page, as it may be the primary topic. I don't know but if you have ever been to WP:CANCITY and Wikipedia:Canadian_Wikipedians'_notice_board/Style_guide#Places, or the list at WP:CANLIST, but there has been a lot of (not uncontroversial) work done moving cities and towns that have unique (i.e. Flin Flon) names (not related to primary topic, like Toronto) to page titles without the province. Previously Halifax NS was located at Halifax Regional Municipality as that used to be the legal name (up until only a couple months ago). You will see on CANCITY it mentions Sudbury in that regard, it used to mention Halifax. While a case could be made to move Halifax, NS to Halifax, there is likely some push back from some editors (possibly from the UK, but we also get push back from American editors, as they only uses titles without the state if the city is listed in the AP Stylebook as not requiring one, see reference 2 for the list). - @Kelapstick: interesting, thank you for the information. The AP manual seems a bit conservative. I do see where you are coming from about potential resistance from Wikipedians outside Canada, but I think that the project probably has enough sovereignty that if it were to vote on a convention (e.g., capital and most populated provincial city having >[n% views than similar-named articles]), we would have enough ammunition. Either way it's an undertaking that's sort of futile and dwarfed in comparison to other tasks that remain to be seen. - Sweet Nightmares 00:58, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Typically the US is the only country where cities are disambiguated by default, and everything else is based on primary topic and debates thereof. Because in Canada, outside Quebec, many cities are are named after cities in the UK, and unless there is a compelling reason why it is the primary topic it is left with the province (Hamilton, Windsor, Price Albert, etc.) Halifax has been debated ad nauseum, as has Vancouver vs. Vancouver, Washington (typically the argument is that Vancouver should be a DAB page, but most agree that the BC city is the primary topic). The typical rule of thumb is that if a a city name redirects to a city with the province, and there are no other articles that could sit at that name (I recently moved Glace Bay), it can be uncontroversially moved, although that isn't always the case. A move of Antigonish, Nova Scotia was rejected despite it being the only city of that name, and Antogonish redirecting there. It is all very confusing. --kelapstick(bainuu) 01:44, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

- @WilliamCloutier: No problem. I'm not sure what else can be done aside from finding physical sources (magazines etc) that discuss the site in a capacity other than advertisement. A major barrier exists in that people over here don't speak French, nor are they familiar with French-language media. There's also a raging bias against corporations here and everywhere else on the web, which doesn't help; nor does the group of users who just goes around debating deletions all day.
- Anyway, if it does get deleted and you find ClicAssure starting to get more press down the road, you can always recreate the page with the extra sources. If it gets deleted, you can request for "userification" (i.e., it would be moved to User:WilliamCloutier/ClickInsurance) here. - SweetNightmares 15:38, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your suggestion that the number of reliable references from independent sources be increased. I have added ten links and I think it has improved the article by more visibly documenting the scope of Dulvy's work. He has been interviewed and quoted in many media outlets including the New York Times and the BBC, among others, and his work has directly resulted in key policy changes (Cathay Pacific Airlines banning unsustainable shark fin soup & the listing of Manta Ray gill rakers under CITES, preventing their international trade). Please let me know if this is what you had in mind, and if the article can be improved further.

Oh my, it's been so many years I don't remember. I made that map before becoming convinced that maps on Wikipedia really need to cite sources (which they still do!). I'm sure I used several books I have and could dig up, as well as a number of websites I probably couldn't. I'm sure I at least used the books "Appalachia: A History", by John Alexander Williams, and "The Shaping of America, Volume 1: Atlantic America", by D.W. Meinig. Unfortunately I cannot remember what websites I used, but they were certainly an assortment of historical, cultural, geological, and geographical (physiography etc). If there are specific problems or issues let me know and I can see what I can do. I think it was well-sourced, but I see I only said "I made this map myself" as the source. How bad of me. I can only say I was still fairly new to Wikipedia and had not yet come to the conclusion that maps should have sources at least as much as articles! Pfly (talk) 09:07, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews
Hello SweetNightmares. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.
The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.
If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)
If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.
Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.
