March 2024
[edit]Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 19:58, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Killing of Brian Thompson
[edit]Hi, you just added a section called "crowd sourced investigation" to the article Killing of Brian Thompson. Under the Public response section, though, it already says "Unlike other high-profile crimes, this killing saw little internet vigilantism and amateur detective work, with multiple true crime influencers expressing apathy towards the prospect of identifying the perpetrator." Are you able to rectify this contradiction in the article? Thanks! Kingturtle = (talk) 04:04, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Kingturtle. I'm not sure what contradiction you're referring to. It is true that the killing saw little amateur detective work, but little is not the same thing as none. The sentence after the passage you mentioned begins "Some work was done by internet sleuths to try to solve the murder" and mentions that amateur detectives have been called snitches. If there is a sufficient amount of amateur detective work ongoing for people to be throwing accusations of snitching around, by definition, amateur detective work is taking place. Tdmurlock (talk) 04:12, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- "Theories from true crime enthusiasts and amateur internet detectives on X, Reddit, 4chan and other online forums have abounded in the aftermath of the killing."
- That is in direct contradiction with:
- "Unlike other high-profile crimes, this killing saw little internet vigilantism and amateur detective work."
- I am not saying you're addition was wrong. I just was hoping you could figure out how to resolve the contradiction. Kingturtle = (talk) 04:26, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
