Vannarpannai Vaitheeswaran Temple

[edit]

Hi Thamayanthylk, and welcome to English Wikipedia.

Thanks for your new article Vannarpannai Vaitheeswaran Temple. I've categorised the redirect as {{R from other language|ta}}. I see from navigating via the Wikidata Interwiki links that there is a proposed merge on the Tamil Wikipedia, but I am not sure that really affects the outcome of any discussion on the English Wikipedia. Just to let you know, if you create a foreign-language redirect in the English Wikipedia, we generally have a policy to delete them unless they show a strong "affinity" to the target of the redirect (i.e. in this case Vannarpannai Vaitheeswaran Temple). That's covered by the guideline at WP:RFD#D8 and more elaboration at the essay at WP:RFOREIGN. In this case it seems clear to me that it does have a strong affinity to Tamil, so I think you are quite fine.

It's helpful to include the native name in the article: The templates {{lang|ta}} can help you do that. Start like:

'''Vannarpannai Vaitheeswaran Temple''' ({{lang-ta|வண்ணார்பண்ணை வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோயில்}}) is a...

Which will give you:

Vannarpannai Vaitheeswaran Temple (Tamil: வண்ணார்பண்ணை வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோயில்) is a...

Be careful with the difference between {{lang-ta}} and {{lang|ta}}. The first will put a linked "Tamil: " before your text, as you see; the second won't change how it looks but will just put it into a "hidden" (administrative) Category:Articles containing Tamil-language text. It is absolutely fine (and encouraged) to include the original Tamil text where appropriate, for example with the native names of things.

I notice you haven't translated the picture captions yet, but I guess you will get around to it.

I don't speak or read Tamil at all, but I translate some other languages, so if you need any help on the translation process at English Wikipedia, or any other editing matter, please feel free to ask me (in English!) Si Trew (talk) 11:51, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
