A New Year for the DNB, and launch of "volume of the month"[edit]

See WT:WP DNB#Volume of the Month for a collaboration that I'm in the course of setting up. Everyone who signed up to the WikiProject for the Dictionary of National Biography is being notified, while there is still time to alter the way of working if need be. Hi, I'm requesting a longer block than 31 hours; this is a longterm disruptive account, possibly a school IP, and was last blocked for 2 weeks. Thanks and cheers, (talk) 14:16, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Good call, I extended it to 2 weeks again cause I'm not seeing any constructive edits from there at all. the wub "?!" 14:25, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a second look--the kids must want to get some work in before the weekend.... (talk) 14:44, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[edit]

Hi Wub. In view of the preceding section, this may seem like badgering, but it's certainly not intended as such. I saw in this block log that you drastically reduced (and relabeled) the block length for another school IP within a minute of the original block. From looking at their contributions (to use a very polite word), I would say that Wikipedia needs protection from them for a protracted period of time. Favonian (talk) 14:55, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Ah, that was entirely an accident. Just restored the original block. the wub "?!" 15:00, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank for the quick response :) Favonian (talk) 15:03, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear The wub,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Vandalism at Remy Ong Page[edit]

Hello, I have noticed you have reverted vandalism entries to Remy Ong entry on Wikipedia. Thank you for doing so, but please do not remove the dog scandal section as that has been validated by press and is official. (talk) 14:16, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you![edit]
