Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi TipsyElephant, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! —Femke 🐦 (talk) 15:10, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, TipsyElephant. Thank you for your work on The New Yorker: Fiction. Klbrain, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

I've merged to Treisman's page, as both pages are rather short and best discussed in context. Treisman is so key to the podcast that that seems a natural place for it.

@Klbrain: I think the subject is independently notable, but I don't have any issues with the merge. Thanks for your work at NPP. TipsyElephant (talk) 17:10, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blackout

[edit]

Hey, TipsyElephant! I hope you don't mind, but I've added a lot of stuff to Blackout (podcast) and I've noticed you've contributed a lot, so I assumed you made the article at first. I wonder if it's good enough or it needs more? (I'm pretty sure it needs more.) Thanks in advance!

Nicole. Oh, she's elegantly clandestine... 07:33, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ElegantlyClandestine, I'm glad you took an interest in the article. Don't worry, you don't need anyone's permission to edit an article because no one owns it. I did start the article a while back so that some one like you can expand it. However, at a glance it looks like you may have introduced a copyright violation by adding copy-pasted episode descriptions to the episode table. In the future please make sure to write everything in your own words. To improve and expand the article, I would recommend reading and summarizing the sources in your own words. You could expand the plot a bit while keeping in mind that the plot should not be too long. I would also recommend adding a reception that summarizes what reviewers thought about the show. If you run out of ideas for improving the article you could start a peer review, but make sure to read the instructions before you do so. If you've had the article peer reviewed, you could try a good article nomination where you will receive further review, however, I believe that is a ways off. TipsyElephant (talk) 00:29, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh, alright. Whoops. I’m gonna re-listen to the podcast once I’m done finishing season 2. Thanks! Nicole. Oh, she's elegantly clandestine... 00:38, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good! Glad you enjoy the podcast. If you're interested in audio dramas you may want to check out some of the shows in category:Scripted podcasts. I hope the copyright issue doesn't discourage you from editing the article further. If you have any questions or need any help let me know. TipsyElephant (talk) 02:34, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not really, I’m just concerned about what they’ll do to my account. Wow, and I thought the episode descriptions were free-to-use… whoops. Nicole. Oh, she's elegantly clandestine... 03:34, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ElegantlyClandestine: I believe that at most someone might add this Template:Nothanks-web to your talk page. It sounds like it was an honest mistake so I wouldn't worry about it. TipsyElephant (talk) 10:07, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let's hope other people think that way. I think I'll be off the internet for a while anyway, taking a vacation off-town. Nicole. Oh, she's elegantly clandestine... 12:44, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft The Earful Tower Podcast

[edit]

Working on the new Draft:The_Earful_Tower_Podcast per your instructions. Any pointers before I submit it for review?

I realized that one of my key sources is behind a paywall (NYT). Is there an accepted best practice in these cases? - Submit source URL as-is - Use wayback machine - Do not use paywalled sources?

Thanks! Atolkachev (talk) 20:54, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Atolkachev: per WP:PAYWALL the NYT and other paywalled or difficult to access sources are fine. Your biggest hurdle will be WP:GNG or WP:NPODCAST. I would recommend reading WP:GOLDENRULE for a brief overview of what's expected. I think I saw mention of a National Geographic source, which could help improve the chance (community consensus is that the source is generally reliable: WP:NATGEO). TipsyElephant (talk) 00:14, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I have not tracked down the source of the Nat Geo quote yet. I found a recent segment on the US TV where the podcast host was main contributor on and off camera, so I added it to the Host section. There seems to be a fine line between making whoever reviews the article’s see the podcast well known and highly relevant in its genre and promoting it. I went to Apple Podcasts and typed “Paris” in the search. The podcast I am writing about came up in the third position. But how to highlight this on Wikipedia? The host mentioned over 4 million episode downloads. Should I quote the relevant episode as the source for this data? I don’t think this data is public. Thanks for all your patient clarifications. Atolkachev (talk) 05:51, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Still polishing Draft:The_Earful_Tower_Podcast before submitting it. In 2018, the readers of Expatriates Magazine voted the podcast best in Paris. The Wayback Machine preserved the voting form https://web.archive.org/web/20181122101847/http://paris.expatriatesmagazine.com/best-podcast-in-paris-2018/ but the website has since become defunct. Is there a way to reference this accolade? Currently, the citation points to a dead website. Is it better to have no citation at all or a broken citation showing an attempt in good faith of the editor? Do I have to remove the mention of the voting if I cannot back it up with a URL?
And can I draw your attention to the question I asked above about attributing the information on 4 million downloads to the podcast itself? Information like this will not be available publicly, does that mean it dose not belong on Wikipedia? Thank you! Atolkachev (talk) 17:07, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Atolkachev: considering paris.expatriatesmagazine.com appears to be a defunct blog, which is not notable I would say that the award contributes little to nothing toward the notability of the podcast. If the only source you have for the number of downloads is the podcast itself, I would say that violates WP:ABOUTSELF. It would be best if you could find a reliable secondary source for the claim.
