Daire not Dhoire[edit]

Obviously you have no knowledge of Irish so please don't make edits where it doesn't add up. Dhoire is a modern Irish word and is not the origin word for Derry. The Old Irish Daire is, heck Derry sounds more like Daire than Dhoire. All placenames of Irish origin in Ireland are of Old Irish origin not modern which is very different in spelling in places. Mabuska (talk) 11:00, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is totally untrue that all placenames of Irish origin in Ireland are of Old Irish origin not modern. However, you are correct about Daire. Dhoire is the genitive of the modern Irish Doire, so for instance we have Contae Dhoire County Derry (i.e. the County of Derry). But simply Derry in modern Irish would actually be the nominative Doire not genitive Dhoire. While not wishing to be the cause of offence I suggest tomtwenty should learn some Irish before making the kind of edits regarding the language that he has made. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.152.239.72 (talk) 20:52, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Daire" is correct. Read the reference I added. There was also a slight mistake on the page, as Derry comes from "oak wood". I don't mean to offend you, but please find a reference before you make such an edit again, as you are the only user who thinks that "Dhoire" is correct.--FF3000 (talk) 18:30, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have responded to you Tomtwnety at my talk page. You really really need to learn some basic Irish as your only making yourself look foolish. Mabuska (talk) 13:33, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I moved your Wikipedia Latin Theory out of the main Wikipedia space and put it in your userspace just a FYI. Whispering 14:37, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
