Innovation of Sound
[edit]Hi there. You seem to be having some trouble with the page at Innovation of Sound. If you're not already aware, you can preview your changes before saving them by clicking the "show preview" button - there's no need to repeatedly blank the page as you've been doing. When you're still in the testing stage, it might also be a good idea to do that in your sandbox or another subpage rather than out in the "live" portion of Wikipedia. Also, with only one linked reference, there's a very good chance the page will be deleted as not being notable (per the guidelines here) - that's much less likely to happen if the page is still in your sandbox. Please let me know if you need any help or further guidance, either by replying here or on my talk page. Matt Deres (talk) 11:34, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Innovation of Sound - The Science of Life back cover.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Eeekster (talk) 19:51, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not continue to upload files with missing or false information on their copyright status, as you did with File:Innovation of Sound - The Science of Life front cover.jpg. Please note that Wikipedia takes copyright and copyright infringement very seriously. Images and other media may only be uploaded and included if they meet the conditions stated in our image use policy, and if their provenance is clearly documented. The article Innovation of Sound has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No proper returns found via Google News, nor Google Books. Article mentions music reviews, but I've found none. No reliable sources cited in the article currently.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Matt Deres (talk) 11:17, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Innovation of Sound 2
[edit]Hi Matt. I got your note on my talk page, though it was difficult to read because it was formatted to not show up as visible text. I understand your position in not wanting to have your band's page removed from the encyclopedia. However, Wikipedia is only supposed to have articles on topics which are notable and we use that word in a very specific sense. For musicians and musical topics, that is enumerated on the page here. In the most general sense, any topic is unlikely to meet notability requirements unless there is substantial coverage in reliable third party sources. Of the webpages that you listed on my talk page, none meet those requirements - My Space and Facebook are obviously self-published and so not neutral, while the TouchFM link has nothing substantial there at all. For up-and-coming bands, what we need to see is coverage by newspapers (substantial coverage, not just brief mentions) and indications of success like awards, competition wins, charting albums or singles, etc. You don't have to reach Led Zeppelin levels of press coverage and success, but you do need to make some ink. If you can find some good sources, add them to your article. Don't worry about formatting, I will check in periodically and fix things up if the formatting isn't right.
Also, I hate to pile on criticism, but your use of the word "my", as in "my Wikipedia page" is problematic. The page is not yours, nor the band's - it belongs to Wikipedia. The articles here are not owned by any of the people who write them - I don't control any of the pages I've written and you don't control yours either: all articles are open to anyone to edit. Specifically, people in your position are considered to have a conflict of interest. It's nothing personal against you, it's just that you're unlikely to be able to maintain a neutral point of view. Articles should be here to enhance the encyclopedia, not to enhance the topics of the articles.
I know I've thrown a lot of stuff at you. The fact is, the page is unlikely to be kept unless you can come up with some decent news coverage. If the band continues to progress and succeed, then there will be an article here in time. The decision to delete or not is out of my hands and now open to the community. You can provide your thoughts on the deletion discussion page. Matt Deres (talk) 14:29, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
Hello again. I've had a look through the links you posted on my talk page. I'm afraid that none of them qualify as being reliable sources. The NME/YouTube link says right on it that it's an advertisement for the band. The tumblr pieces are essentially just blogs, which aren't forbidden, but are not considered top quality sources. On top of which, neither one really has anything in-depth to it. The same is true for the freelibrary link; it's barely a paragraph.
Check out our page on the band Strapping Young Lad (I know the music is completely unlike yours, but bear with me). They were never a mainstream band, never signed with a major label, and so on. Chances are good that you've never heard of them (neither had I until I went looking for an indie band with a really good Wikipedia article). But check out the list of references at the bottom: interviews with band members by newspaper journalists, reviews by major magazines like Revolver and Exclaim!, and, when they use blogs or other informal sources, they're fairly long pieces from a wide variety of writers. I point out this article in particular because it's a featured article (i.e. it's considered among the best articles we have) and it's about a fringe metal band from Canada. And yet someone made a top quality article about them because they had a wide variety of good sources to work with. I'm not seeing those kinds of sources for Innovation of Sound. I'm sure it seems unfair, but Wikipedia would be completely unworkable if every possible topic had an article; one of the criteria we use to help keep down the noise is requiring topics to have extensive coverage in good sources. Until the band has that kind of coverage, they don't really belong in the encyclopedia. Matt Deres (talk) 02:17, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
