[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page McPike Mansion has been reverted.
Your edit here to McPike Mansion was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.facebook.com/groups/143911905633319/) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 01:43, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, Facebook links are prohibited by the encyclopedia's policies, specifically WP:LINKSTOAVOID item #10, and Facebook groups may not be promoted (or the reader instructed to go to Facebook accounts for information) within the text of the article. - LuckyLouie (talk) 03:06, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Yunshui  11:05, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

While I do woodwork for the McPike Mansion, I am one person, not a crew, so I have changed the username to remove that association. It didn't occur to me that what I was doing was advertising, which was a bit of a dumb mistake on my part, I will admit. I made this account mainly to update the page for said mansion, not to advertise, but to inform. There's been a common belief that the mansion is being left to ruin, not just on this website but everywhere it seems, and I wanted to help dispel that. Any more edits I make to the page will be done more carefully. I'm sorry to have caused trouble.

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. From what you have said I expect that you will be careful to avoid anything that may look like promotional editing, but you should also read the guideline on conflict of interest, and be careful to follow it. By the standards of some editing we get, the promotional nature of your editing was very mild, and you have also shown an understanding of the problem, so I am inclined to give you another chance. However, rather than unblocking you immediately, I am placing your unblock request on hold to give Yunshui, the administrator who blocked you, a chance to express an opinion. @JamesBWatson: you know I trust your judgement. If you're cool with lifting the block, go right ahead. Yunshui  21:28, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
