[edit]

Hello Tweedybyrd, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:27, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:SUN Band Logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:SUN Band Logo.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:32, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition to Sun (R&B band) has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:41, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wiki,

I am the copyright holder of all the images and logo but will remove all of them so the content can be returned to Sun (R&B Band) on Wiki. Please clarify if any other changes are to be made. It seems the Wiki 'Sun (R&B Band) page was OK until these images were added. There is no intention of copyright violations here.

Please let me know ASAP so I can resume and correct the page per your advice. I don't want to be blocked from editing but the page needs the full content reinstated.

Regards,

Tweedybyrd

The images were the least of the problem. All of the text that you added was copied from somewhere else. That is the problem. What other connection do you have with the subject? -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 22:02, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wiki,

Thank you for your immediate response.

These text were written by Scott Galloway by my guidance and approval for the SUN Greatest Hits liner notes. I own the group SUN plus all image rights. My name is Byron Byrd ....the founder, leader, and rights owner of SUN. I will re-write the content in my words referring to actual statements by individuals cleared for publication for accuracy and History of the group SUN. What is being said presently in the short introduction on the Wiki page for SUN (R&B Band) is not accurate and the word 'flopped' is someone personal opinion. Who wrote this?

After your reply and blessing along with confirmation that this is the right direction I should now take.....I will immediately rewrite the page under Wiki guidelines. All I want is correct, informative information about my group SUN.

Regards,

Tweedybyrd (Byron Byrd)

In that case you have a distinct conflict of interest and you probably shouldn't be editing the article at all. Anything you add must be uncontroversial and well sourced. If anyone challenges anything you add, you must use the article talk page to resolve any conflicts. Please read and understand WP:COI and WP:OR before editing the article. Also read WP:DCP if you wish to use copyrighted information that you own. Generally adding copyrighted information is a bad idea, even with permission. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:08, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wiki,

Thank you again for your response. I will have someone rewrite the page and I will submit it less any copyright material. I still want to know who has written the current information on the page now and how was this incorrect information accepted.

Regards,

Tweedybyrd

The information that you claim is incorrect was added by various editors. There are millions of pages here, some slip through the cracks. Keep in mind, if you add any information to the page without citing a reliable source, it will be removed immediately. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 10:40, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mufka,

All we are trying to do is correct the information. Why are you fighting us? You must know who added this info to the wiki page and you did with me. As I see it, the present info has been cut and pasted from sites like: http://www.acamusic.br.com http://www.last.fm http://duck.fm http://pc-pdx.com/bands/sun-_and_-lunar http://hkgfm.frodio.com/#/artist/sun/emigracija/ http://superfm.com.pl/biography/Sun/

To make Wiki a reliable source for information, you can't let unreliable, incorrect, and personally opinionated information 'slip through the cracks' which will start to permeate through the Internet. Once again, help us make the Wiki page on SUN a reliable, accurate, and informative page. We will cite only reliable sources when the page is rewritten unlike what is presently on the SUN Wiki page.

Regards,

Tweedybyrd

No one is fighting you. I'm trying to convey the rules which are very specific when it comes to someone editing on a subject with which they are connected. I should also make it clear that you're dealing with an editor base that is all volunteer. Basically, someone with an understanding of the rules has to stumble on the article and fix it. And with over 4 million articles and just over 125,000 active editors (active means they made one edit in the last 30 days), you can see why things slip though the cracks. That's what has happened here, at least in part. It's quite frustrating to see articles that are written without any sources. We can't just delete them and we may not have the time to dedicate to sourcing them. That's why there are maintenance templates the get put on the articles to indicate that they need work.
One thing that you need to consider when you see content that looks like it came from somewhere else is where the content was first. Very often other sites copy content from Wikipedia. That happens a lot. If you have a dispute with what is in the article, make your specific complaint on the article's talk page. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 18:19, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:SUN Band Logo.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:SUN Band Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:17, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident in which you may be involved. Thank you. —-- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 01:17, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thank you for your interest in editing this article and I understand that you have concerns about the information presented in this article. It is the goal of wikipedia to ensure that all articles are created and edited using verifiable information from reliable sources. This effort is community driven and there is no individual, nor organization that directly oversees or approves each article or edit. To maintain this community there is a series of policies and guidelines about how to approach editing and contributing to articles to help ensure this quality is maintained. When individual editors violate these policies it usually is a cause for concern. One of the primary changes it appears you have been making has been to change information without referencing a reliable source for this change. That is a big reason why your edits have been removed. A second policy we have in place is regarding conflict of interest which you apparently have, which means that you have a vested interest in this article, and that your views are biased by your close personal connection with this article. In general, people witha conflict of interest are highly discouraged from editing a page directly, instead you are advised to bring up your concerns on the articles talk page to discuss the proposed changes. On the talk page, please feel free to bring up changes you propose, being sure to cite specific reliable sources that do not contain original or firsthand knowledge. With your assistance, I am sure we can clear up any errors you have discovered. Tiggerjay (talk) 22:40, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Free Kick Masters, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Castelão (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).
